AKSUNGUR achieves altitude record with national engine ✈️

The standard-bearer of the skies AKSUNGUR greets us from 40,000 feet!

With this flight, our national engine TEI-PD170 reached its highest altitude. At the same time, it marked the highest altitude at which our national camera AF500, developed by Aselsan, and the national heated battery, developed by Aspilsan, were tested with AKSUNGUR.

Great tests and definitely essential before the next stage.
But proof of the pudding is in the eating, when it comes to take off and landing of the TB3 with full fuel and payload.
That is what will decide to put this bird apart from the other UAVs that have managed to take off and land on a much longer carriers like the Mojave.

Automated system, is clearly very good at avoiding the back lift during touch down. But with full load those few extra metres may be crucial for safe landing. Currently the plane has ample room for landing safely with plenty of runway to spare. But it has no ammo and we don’t know how much fuel it is carrying. We also don’t know how much the engine is being pushed to its limit during take off.

Personally I can’t wait to see this bird taking off and landing with full load. As far as I can see, we are ahead of all others in this race of operating UAVs from a carrier with a comparably short runway. Nice to keep the edge.

Also worthwhile to notice that all take-off are happening in headwind. Interesting to see if it can take off in non-windy/tailwind conditions.

I think TB3 is getting closer to taking off and landing with a full mission load. Of course, munitions will probably be training versions or dummies with the same weight and geometry
