It depends on how one defines " torture and unjust treatment", I m pretty sure the Uighurs enjoy much better and higher standard of living than all neighboring Muslim or non Muslim regions and countries. The region is more liberal like Kazakhstan. I guess only one who can spend some years living in the region can tell, reports from both Chinese and western reports are biased favoring their own agenda.

I like Uighurs and several of my childhood friends are Uighurs, if there were problems and unjustice in Xinjiang, then they should be corrected. but honestly I don't know about it for sure. But I m pretty sure the Chinese government is not stupid, it won't commit those atrocities that western media claimed to make the world hate her. and , more importantly, there's no reason for China to do them.

i respect you but i don't trust this PR videos or photos. Wait i will share a real video. There is a Turkish youtube channel. This guy is on a world tour and he travels all over the countries and shares videos from there(not a political person). But in this country, he is not even allowed to sleep in the hotel. The reception who sees his Turkish passport says he cannot stay at the hotel.

We have contradictory accounts on Xinjiang and Uighurs from various channels and my personal experience, it's hard to say which is propaganda and which is not, but I believe Chinese government is not stupid and there's no reason at all for the government to do what the western media claimed it did.
