Yes, absolutely they can use nukes. There's this thing called low yield nukes. warhead size hovers around 10kT-12kT, a little smaller than the one's detonated in Hiroshima.

Russia has 6000 of those...

People has only asked what is the implication on Russia only, without asking what will be the implication on its immidiate neighbor. IF...and this is a big IF Russia detonated one on the field, the questions would be...what would the West do next ? Low yield detonation isn't enough justification to retaliate Russia in return with the same kind.

  • Pariah state? They're already a pariah state
  • Sanctions ? they're brimming with it, and recently surpassed NorKo
  • Countries severing ties with Russia ? With the exception of Belarus and maybe China, not one is important enough for the country at the moment.
  • Military actions ? Could be, but escalations by two nuclear armed forces is something to be thought deeply especially if you want your house in Kentucky turn to glass just because some defenders in Donbass got nuked.
  • Countries start proliferating nukes ? That's the Western led world orders problem not Russia's. Imagine another 10-15 country the size of Pakistan or Israel and nuclear armed...that would be much fun. South Korea has made it clear that they're going to follow that path sooner or later, Japan might be interested to acquire one. In the end its the Western order that will have the most headache because they're not only dealing with "rogue" regimes (as they like to call it) but possibly allies that is breaking the norm on nuclear proliferation.

I
They are not gonna do it because then, the countries that are still doing trade with them as usual like China and India are simply going to pull out. Which means total collapse for the Russian economy.

Using nukes comes at a time when things larger and more important than trade comes into mind. Such as the very survival of a state

Even then China (imo) will not really punish Russia as they both have one thing in common : shared enmity of the West.

Thing that has since then been exacerbated by the constant provocation by the West on China's own problems. Such as curbing on TikTok, trade wars, visits by officials to Taiwan etc.

off course it better to start the escalation ladder by detonating large but less sensitive explosives such as using giant vacuum bomb (the FOAB).

Is the decision from the UK to supply Ukraine with APFSDS DU rounds for the Challenger 2 will trigger a Russian response as stated by Putin ?
(What will Putin do with the "Radioactive cloud" which harms also Russians ?)

If Russia somehow * nuked Ukraine, Russian nuclear power plants would be blown by Ukraine.

Ukraine does not have nuclear weapons but Russian have very vulnerable targets.

Interesting scenario

During the Chernobyl crisis, the radioactive cloud were blown West and North West towards Central Europe and Scandinavia. Imagine another 5 or 10 Chernobyl getting blown ?

I believe its Crimea that will be the real test if Russia finally decide to use nukes. Unlike the 4 newly incorporated area in Ukraine recently, Russians psyche does legitimately view that Crimea is an integral part of Russia. So losing Crimea would have necessitate the use of nukes because they view that as a physical occupation of Russia proper.
No Idea brother, most likely the vid is from a training course.

I think Xi Jinping is secretly a defencehub user...doing this just days after member here mentions political consequence of shaking hands with Putin.

If yes, he's definitely a troll.

Some Westerners are still overestimating their abilities. Economically and geopolitically world is vastly different than what it was 30 years. And it will be radically different in next 15 years.

If POSSIBLE, ( countries like Indonesia, Malaysia , Bangladesh and Thailand ) we should follow Turkey’s example in WW2. Let us sit, watch the show ( maybe have some popcorns ) but hey, do not let your guard down. Just do your best to stay out of the Cold war II. And in the very end declare on the losers, Hehe.

The Czech-made RM-70 multiple launch rocket system, delivered earlier to the Ukrainian army, came under attack from the Russian Lancet kamikaze drone. After the drone hit, the ammunition detonation of the installation occurred, these are the first shots of the destruction of this type of MLRS by Lancet drones. Information about the Czech MLRS RM-70 is on the channel.

Footage of an attempt to destroy Russian missiles by Ukrainian soldiers from small arms, the place and date of the shooting of the battle are not reported, the video also shows massive strikes of Russian cruise missiles

On March 15, units of the Ukrainian army made an attempt to break through the Russian defense in the Zaporozhye direction. Reportedly, as a result of the battle, Ukrainian units were forced to retreat, while losing 3 infantry fighting vehicles, 2 tanks and part of the infantry, some episodes of the battle were caught on video.

Footage of repairing a Russian BTR-80 in the field, an armored personnel carrier in Ukraine hit a mine, after which it needed to replace the wheel gear.

Interesting interview with Michael Kofman and Rob Lee:

Some statements:

-Russia is probably going to mobilize again
-There are only a few units that can carry offensive operations right now, like VDV or Wagner.
-Further mobilization could be destined to defensive duties, for trying to hold the UKR offensive in the following months and then counter-attack while rebuilding some units.

Russia using some low yield nukes in Ukraine is NATO’s wet dream. Such a reckless action would give them cover to offer any kind of offensive weapons to Ukraine, except for nukes, as the Russians would have escalated to a level that would make sending F16s or ATACMS a joke.

Also, this would force countries like India, Turkey and China to stop trade with Russia, which means a quick collapse of the Russian economy and regime.

Pariah state? They're already a pariah state
But they still trade with Turkey, India and China.

  • Sanctions ? they're brimming with it, and recently surpassed NorKo

The sanctions against them are limited in scope in order to allow them to still sell oil and gas at lower prices to India, Turkey and China. There’s still room for much tougher sanctions.

  • Countries severing ties with Russia ? With the exception of Belarus and maybe China, not one is important enough for the country at the moment.

You think they would do well if Turkey and India would stop trading with them?

  • Military actions ? Could be, but escalations by two nuclear armed forces is something to be thought deeply especially if you want your house in Kentucky turn to glass just because some defenders in Donbass got nuked.

No need for direct military action if you give Ukraine cruise missiles and fighter jets. The Ukrainians would be happy to strike deep into Russian territory on behalf of the West.

  • Countries start proliferating nukes ? That's the Western led world orders problem not Russia's. Imagine another 10-15 country the size of Pakistan or Israel and nuclear armed...that would be much fun. Yes, proliferation would most likely happen, but more countries having nukes will reduce the threat of war.

That's absurd. After the first nuke(s) is/are dropped on it Ukraine would immediately capitulate.
