Kuleba: We are waiting for a pass from the Alliance
Kiev does not understand why Ukraine was not invited to the NATO summit in June. Kuleba also recalled the 13-year promise of the Alliance.
At a briefing with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid, who arrived in Ukraine on Wednesday, May 26, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reproached NATO for not being invited to the upcoming Alliance summit, and also for years delaying the decision on the MAP for Ukraine. Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“We understand the desire of the allies to hold a closed summit to discuss transatlantic unity, examples of such summits were, in particular, in 2017 in Brussels. Ukraine in the Black Sea region and against the members of the Alliance, I mean the latest results of the investigation in the Czech Republic. We cannot understand this, how it is possible not to find a format for Ukraine's participation in the summit this year, "Kuleba said /
he noted that it is important that NATO's open door policy does not turn into a policy of "feeding on promises."
“Of course, we are grateful to our NATO partners for the constant confirmation of the open door policy based on the decision of the 2008 Bucharest summit, but 13 years have passed since then, and not a single step has been taken to implement this decision. reproach that we have too slow some reforms, then what can we say about the adoption and implementation of the decisions of the Alliance, which for 13 years fell in dust. It is very important for Ukraine that the open door policy does not turn into a policy of feeding with promises, "the minister said.
He is confident that this is important not only for Ukraine, but also for the security of the Euro-Atlantic space. According to him, many NATO member states share this opinion.
“If in 2008 a promise was made that Ukraine and Georgia would eventually become NATO members, and the next step on this path should be the provision of MAP, then it is difficult to imagine a better and more important moment for making such decisions than 2021. I think that the time has come to speak frankly with the Ukrainian society about this, so that it clearly understands that in matters of Euro-Atlantic integration, the ball is not always on the Ukrainian side, and we expect a pass from the Alliance, "the minister added.
Recall that the next NATO summit is scheduled for June 14 in Brussels. Only member countries will take part in it, without involving partner countries, including Ukraine.
