If Russia completes a successful invasion that takes a large amount of Ukraine's territory then Zelensky & current Ukrainian government will look like the biggest Idiots in world history.

Instead of their "don't panic war is not going to happen" talk they should have mobilized at least 250 000 armed & ready reservists by now. They are nowhere near that number...

If you're talking jets and MERAD SAM, at this point it's too late. Those MANPADS and ATGM are the best that suits the current crisis

As is seen in Syria the Russians will bomb anything, schools, hospitals etc. So the war is lost the moment Russia has complete control of the skies. Because all they will do is just bomb everything until nothing living is left to oppose them.

But if they could contest the sky, potentially the russians could get bogged down in a miserable self defeating war. Where as they kill more Ukrainians more resistance grows and the russians losses and costs increase.

But will Ukraine even fight, that's the bigger question. They did nothing over Crimea and it turned out pretty much the entire state apparatus was compromised with russian shills.

Even in the recent Karabagh war, Aliyev had Russian shills operating within the military command structure.

Ukraine has approx 180 000 professional army soldiers

only tens of thousands of Ukrainian reserves are being drafted & trained right now. Maximum estimate is 100 000

total of 280 000 if we are just being generous

A Russian Invasion force will most likely use 150 000 professional army soldiers plus the addition of various spetsnatz groups, Airborne troops, wagner/slavonic corps mercanaries.

with addition of 100 000 ready reservists from Russian National gaurd and Army Reserve. Thats a total of 250 000 troops for the invading force.

Ukraine should of spend more resources on the drafting of reservists and started drafting them much earlier than now. Simply not good enough.

Yes, but the Ukrainians should have done their air defense upgrade earlier, not now. People like to talk about supplying Ukraine with anti aircraft missile, there's even an official request by the Ukrainians to buy US THAAD ABM system. But that's not how its done. To be effective the operators must be proficient at operating the tools, and it took years (maybe sometimes decades) to fully equip and train SAM crew. Sometimes without a guarantee of success.

The same should also apply to the fighter jets. There's no quick, last minute solution to Ukrainian air defense peril.

If the Ukrainians survive this crisis, they should pay more attention to (especially) their air force.

Why on earth have Ukraine not updated, copied & upgraded their S-300, BUK M1 & S-200 systems. Or is it pointless because Russians built backdoors to those SAM's making them easy fry for EW aircraft & general SEAD?

They have, actually. They have stocks of ex-Soviet TOR, S-300, BUK in storage, but the Ukraine arms industry could not deliver fast enough for the armed forces.

Their opposition is the heavily modernized Russian air force (and Russian navy naval aviation) with ~500 combat jets. Some are the dreaded Su-35S Flanker-E. The Russian air force many many miles ahead of the Ukrainians not only in equipment but also combat experience. The Russian air force pilots had at least 6 years of active combat in Syria while the Ukrainian jocks are noticably absent/grounded from the fighting in Donbass since late '14 or early '15.

Not to mention its pilot are leaving en masse because of bad pay and antiquated Soviet era bureaucracy.

Again pointing out the fact that while successive Ukrainian government had always claimed that Ukraine is following NATO standards, facts on the ground remain in the opposite direction.

I dont think supplying ukraine THAADS would help it much from getting destroyed by a Zircon. I think it's a lost cause to spend alot of money for a country that is getting to lose anyways.

What Turkey should do is to prepare accomodation and assylium for couple of thousands engineering talents and extract documents of already started projects.
Now it seems that russian invasion is imminent and probably will be short, brutal amd successfull, so you need to salvage as much as you can from started and ongoing cooperation with ukraina.

If tiny little Georgia can harm Russia in 2008, than Ukraine can harm then to. I dont think drinking and fighting is a good combination. Take a Russian his wife, no problem. Take his wodka you get war.

Exactly. Air lifting Ukrainian engineers and rocket scientists to Turkey before the Red Army capture of rape them like in Germany.

But our stupid government never thought about this.

We haven't yet heard much about Ukraine preparations, in fact from the tone of the Ukrainian govt, they doesn't seem worried and downplayed the whole threat . I don't know if its related to OPSEC or Zelensky doesn't believe of the possibility of war.

if the later is correct, Zelensky reminds me of Saddam during the days before OIF 2003. Where he firmly believe that no invasion will happen because of some imaginary factors that he created for himself.

And depending on the Ukrainian will to fight, we will either see Russian forces doing thunder run into Kiev or a Russian Fallujah.

Seriously?

No one will allow their valued engineers to be snatched just like that and even more unlikely before a war breaks.
However we have already an agreement in the form of Black See Shield engine company to make drone engines in Türkiye and this plan can be sped up for a start.
