The terrorists from IS that blow themselves up at least expect some virgins in the afterlife, but imagine the stupidity of dying for Ukraine’s riches.

I wonder how do those dead Russians will benefit from the “richness of Ukraine”?

I'm implying their sacrifice to the motherland, of course they will not be able to enjoy the main prize. That's why it's called sacrifice to begin with, you don't get to enjoy the fruit of your struggle, but it's worth it because there are certainly something that is bigger than you as an individual.

Imagine all the richness of Ukraine, their agricultural fields, their oil, their mines etc, all work hand in hand so that Russians could have a better quality of life.

So I find it funny that Western journalists kept mentioning Russia's inflated casualties as if it end with that. Have they ever sit and think for a moment that the reported 700K casualties that Putin invested now pay dividend with Russia getting larger with the almost complete control of the Donbass, where the main heavy industry of Ukraine is located. Has they ever for once try to think? Anyone?

Some terrorists are stupid getting themselves caught and are currently getting their balls fried by the FSB. Besides gas guess how many countries are going to beg Russia for grain. I dont know how such a big country managed to get mismanaged by corruption that they somehow ended up being more poor economically than Kosovo before the war.

-Despite getting sanctioned to death placed as 5th biggest economy.
-Establishing a presence in Africa kicking the French out.
-Ukraine I think is the 2nd biggest european country behind Russia so starting businesses their will boost Russias economy.
-Poland and Ukraine economy will sink without profiting from transit fees when NordStream 2 re-opens. If Ukraine gets demilitarized it will be hard to come up with an excuse to blow it up again because Ukraine is done for, can't blame it on Moldavian terrorists if they will be future NATO members, so which non-NATO country will be used as an excuse to blow it up?
-Still conducting expeditions in the arctic.
-Successfully managed or managing manufacturing their own products without reliance from others

They will basically be revitalized as a super power that will be connected to Europe, Asia and the middle east. Dont worry I dont think Russia will be like the U.S. try to push gay marriage to your country. Let's just hope this shit does not go nuclear before that happens which is what I am thinking the west will do.

The reason why France wants to send troops/Legionnaires to Ukraine is, the Wagner group out of Africa, to fight them in Ukraine. And later, fill the gap in Africa.

Please spear people distasteful jingoism.
I can mock both, Ukrainians and Russians as I saw them both near Sarajevo. Also I can inform you that Bosnians saw them plenty of times.
For example in the Crimean war it happened that Bosnian battalions scored the victory, which costed us 8000 lives in a day .
I understand dislike for many things and , I mostly share your sentiments, but the excessive cynicism is not really good.
I would like to think that I am better then them and I try to show it by not being jingoistic. Why should I? My friend Abdul N blew an Ukrainian with sniper while we had a chat 1993.

Russia is already, by a large margin, the country with the largest natural ressources in the world. They did nothing with it outside building mansions for Putin. Now they are taking ressources from Africa and Ukraine. What will they do with it? Nothing else than making other mansions for Putin.

He also forgets that Donbass's industry has been ruined by 10 years of war. It will take time and money for Russia to exploit it.

Also , he doesn't know that these events can blew my country too.
I am sure , that many people were ok , when I was in the exactly same mud as both Ukrainians and Russians now and i was receiving the news about Srebrenica but I am not like that. Some standards must be upheld no matter what.
I am not cynical about people lives even if they aren't my friends.

but it's worth it because there are certainly something that is bigger than you as an individual.

Only God is bigger than the individual. Anyone thinking otherwise is just manipulated by those profiteering from their sacrifices.

So I find it funny that Western journalists kept mentioning Russia's inflated casualties as if it end with that. Since you think Putin is such a great strategist with a long term perspective that will help Russia flourish and become more powerful, I decided to make a comparison between Putin’s Russia and the European Union to see which has a better long term strategy.

My starting point is the year 2000 when Putin became the leader of the Russian Federation. Let’s see how Putin’s Russia fared compared to the EU in the 24 years of Putin’s “strategic” reign.

1. GDP

In 2000 Russia’s GDP was 259 billion dollars. In 2022 it was 2,240 billion dollars.

in 2000 the EU’s GDP was 7,276 billion dollars. In 2022 it was 16,641 billion dollars.

When it comes to GDP growth, Russia far exceeded the EU, but that was not hard to achieve considering the very low starting point. But what matters more when it comes to global geopolitical power is the total value, as this is what allows you to project power. Russia grew its economy by 2 trillion dollars, compared to a growth of 9.5 trillion dollars for the EU.

So on a relative basis Russia grew faster than the EU, but the total economic power added by the EU is almost 5 times higher than Russia’s.

2. Population

In 2000, Russia’s population was 146 million. The current population is 144 million, so Russia lost 2 million people during Putin’s reign (Not a good sign for an imperialistic power, so maybe this is why he wants to conquer Ukraine to increase his population pool).

In 2000, the EU’s population was 377 million (15 member countries) and now it is 448 million (27 member countries). That is an increase of 71 million people, or half of Russia’s population (It seams that the peaceful expansion of the EU is a great way to increase its total population).

So when it comes to population increase, the EU is a clear winner.

3. Territory

Russia is huge with 17.1 million square km. Out of this territory, only a very small fraction is represented by the territories annexed during Putin’s reign. While Russia gained some territory since Putin came to power, they are not internationally recongnized and some of them are under war.

The EU was 3.3 million square km in 2000. Now it has 4.2 million square km, so it managed to grow by almost a third, and all its new territories are internationally recognized and at peace.

So overalll, the EU‘s peaceful method of expansion has yielded more territory and more people than Putin’s warmongering.

4. Future prospects

Since 2022 Russia is involved in a war that is claiming many lives and resources, while also becoming an international pariah state under heavy sanctions and with a negative migration flow. The population is poised to decline unless it manages to annex vast swathes of land and the population that comes with it. Putin’s only chance to increase his empire is by conquering lands, but his efforts in Ukraine have yielded negative results in the last year and a half.

On the other hand, the EU has a strong pipeline of countries waiting to join. Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia are almost certain to join in the future (also Kosovo will most likely join).

Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine are also potential future members, and there is also the distant possibility of Turkey joining (but that is not in the cards in the near future).

So the EU has a good expansion pipeline which will come without any war, while Russia needs to engage in war to secure new lands at huge cost.

Judging by past results, I would say that the EU’s total power has grown much more in the last 24 years than that of Russia. Putin seems to be losing the geopolitical game and has gone on tilt by invading Ukraine.

The likes of Barroso, Junker and Von der Leyen seem to be better at geopolitics than Putin.

Russia will have to sacrifice air bases and ports to protect its refineries, -

Russia could relocate its air defense forces to oil plants, which would weaken the defenses of air bases, ports, headquarters and other military installations, making them easier targets.

Bosnian War was also religious.

Orthodox Christians worldwide helped the Serbs. Catholics worldwide and a few Protestants helped Croatia and Slovenia because they were seen as the bulwark of Western Civilisation.

While the Muslim World in general helped the Bosniaks.

In geopolitics, its stupid to leave religion out of it because Religion is also immersed in politics too.

Ukrainians and Russians coming together help the Serbs is no surprise as both are Orthodox and their Churches were basically the same for centuries.

Russia even went to a World War for Serbia.

I know, but the concept of hierarchy stays. You know, the two largest religions of the world emphasize hierarchy even though theologically both claimed that humans are equal in front of god (differentiated only by piety). Islam has the concept of a caliph while christianity has the concept of the Pope.

So Russia naturally has its own hierarchy, and Putin sits on top of that hierarchy by popular mandate (he won the presidential election by a whopping 87% remember ?). Those Russian men fought under his command, not because of him, but for a purpose that is larger than both him and Putin

Since you think Putin is such a great strategist with a long term perspective that will help Russia flourish and become more powerful, I decided to make a comparison between Putin’s Russia and the European Union to see which has a better long term strategy.

So on a relative basis Russia grew faster than the EU, but the total economic power added by the EU is almost 5 times higher than Russia’s.

This is not even a fair apple-to-apple comparison. The EU is an agglomeration of multiple advanced and mature European economies who just happens to have :

  1. Larger population
  2. an intact economy and industry after the end of the Cold War
  3. The world playing by their rules
The fact that Russia has a growing economy is enough to be applauded, considering the sheer loss of the economic infrastructure that the country faced in the aftermath of the fall of the Soviet Union

2. Population

In 2000, Russia’s population was 146 million. The current population is 144 million, so Russia lost 2 million people during Putin’s reign (Not a good sign for an imperialistic power, so maybe this is why he wants to conquer Ukraine to increase his population pool).

So when it comes to population increase, the EU is a clear winner.

I have noted this before, the fall of the birthrate is something that worries any major Great power and its leaders, including Putin. I've read Putin actually tried to reverse this by introducing pro-family policy and reducing alcoholism which is rampant in Russia, but to no avail.

So I agree with the next option to save the Russian population which is by simply absorbing its neighbor to maintain that population. pretty smart tbh.

3. Territory

Russia is huge with 17.1 million square km. Out of this territory, only a very small fraction is represented by the territories annexed during Putin’s reign. While Russia gained some territory since Putin came to power, they are not internationally recongnized and some of them are under war.

So overalll, the EU‘s peaceful method of expansion has yielded more territory and more people than Putin’s warmongering.

I mean eventually, the world will have to accept Russia's sovereignty over that land. Because there's simply not much they can do to win back those lands (unless they want to start a nuclear war).

Russia has tried multiple times in the past to expand by peace, but seems like with no success. War is merely the last option after all of the peace option are exhausted with no tangible return. Pretty normal.

4. Future prospects

Since 2022 Russia is involved in a war that is claiming many lives and resources, while also becoming an international pariah state under heavy sanctions and with a negative migration flow. The likes of Barroso, Junker and Von der Leyen seem to be better at geopolitics than Putin.

Back when Yanukovych was the president of Ukraine, Russia tried to emulate the EU playbook by offering Ukraine a huge economic deal to accelerate Ukraine into the Union state, but unfortunately, In return, the Maidan happened, we don't know who's to blame in Maidan exactly, but the idea that Russia just invade out of nowhere without first exercising the peaceful option is ridiculous.

So this war is partly the Ukrainian fault for not accepting the Russian proposal for more integration which forced Russia to heavy-heartedly embrace the violent option. Simply put Russia has put forward the proposal for an enlarged Russia without war, but Ukraine chooses the enlarged Russia with war instead.

opting for war when all cards for peace is not a Russian only phenomenon, the West used this option in Iraq when their hope to topple Saddam by popular revolt failed, they proceed to enlarge their influence by invading it.

So never say that Russia has not given Ukraine any option. They did, but unfortunately, that peaceful option to enlarge Russia didn't move forward as expected.

I believe the Russian Empire both the Tsars and the Soviet has not collapsed.

I mean despite losing a lot of countries to independance.

Russia is still the biggest country on the planet. From St Petersburg to the edges of Alaska.

You look at most empires and their successors like Turkiye, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Japan, France, Britain and Netherlands.

Look at Mongolia from Moscow to Beijing. Arab Caliphates from Spain to the edges of India.

Russia losing a lot still has lots of land while the empires i mentioned above are now stuck with a smaller country.

I forgot to mention Austria.

Austria was a big player in geopolitics now look at it stuck in the middle of Europe with no sea and a small country that easily gets bullied the bigger ones.

Im not surprised with Austrian nationalists both ultra and moderates lamenting the loss of their empire and the lands under their rule.

Every country that came from a empire still laments the loss of lands and their standing in the geopolitical arena.

Hence why some feel the need to reshape the order.

Ever since the Orthodox Byzantine Empire collapsed.

Russia assumed the leadership of all Orthodox Christians even Tsars marrying Byzantine princesses then you have the title of Third Rome bestowed upon them.

Russian Orthodox Church despite pledging allegiance to the Patriarch of Constantinople still believed they were the leaders of the Orthodox World because the Patriarch was under Ottoman Rule and jurisdiction.

Its like Rome being Under Muslim rule but the Pope answers to Muslim rulers. For the Russians that could not be accepted.

People should not underestimate the influence of Orthodox Christianity and Pan Slavism in Russian imperialism.

Tsar is just another word for Ceasar.

They assume that role, but many of the other Orthodox people didn’t recognize them as such. Orthodox churches in other countries have never been subordinate to the Russian church.

Only the Greek Orthodox church is seen as somehow more important, while since the Communist times the Russian church is seen as some communist-infested hive of KGB thugs that nobody respects. They are atheist-communists dressed in priests.

Its all about power not all of the Islamic World accepted the Ottoman Empire as caliphs.

It did not matter because the Ottoman Empire was one of the strongest empires at the time especially the premier Muslim power.

I dont think they cared if Morocco and Yemen did not accept their titles.

Same with Russia not to mention most of the Orthodox Christian world was under foreign domination and under Non Orthodox Christian rule.

Hence why Russia was the only left standing so it was pretty normal for them to assume leadership.
