Opening has some diplomatic updates.

  • Top Democrat calling for US troops in Ukraine.
  • France mulls the possibility of deploying up to 6000 troops in Ukraine.
  • Polish FM wants China to tell Russia to surrender.

It might have been fun knowing you guys.
Point 1
No need for US troops in Ukraine. All that was needed was to supply the Ukrainian forces with the weapons they requested in order to win (the ones US forces would have if they were sent to Ukraine). The West would not do that. As a consequence, instead of winning, Ukraine was losing. The irony is that the many of the weapons the West refused to supply have now been supplied.

Point 2
No need for French troops in Ukraine. Again, Ukraine needs foreign weapons, training and ammunition - not foreign troops.

Point 3
No harm in trying but it is difficult to persuade the winning side (currently Russia) to surrender.

Under Putin, a militarized new Russia rises to challenge U.S. and the West

According to the author, in order to carry out this transformation, the Kremlin pursues the following goals:

the formation of an ultra-conservative, puritanical society, mobilized against liberal freedoms and especially hostile to gays and transgender people, in which family policies and welfare spending support traditional Orthodox values;

reformatting education at all levels to instill a new generation of caring and patriotic youth, with textbooks rewritten to suit Kremlin propaganda, patriotic curricula set by the state, and, as of September, mandatory military lessons taught by soldiers called "Fundamentals of Security and Defense" homeland", which will include training in handling Kalashnikov assault rifles, grenades and drones;

the sterilization of cultural life by blacklists of liberal or anti-war performers, directors, writers and artists, as well as new nationalist mandates for museums and filmmakers;

the mobilization of zealous pro-war activism under the brutal Z symbol, which was first painted on the side of Russian tanks invading Ukraine but subsequently spread to government buildings, posters, schools and organized demonstrations;

rollback of women's rights through a stream of propaganda about the need to have children - young and often - and by limiting access to abortion, as well as accusing feminist activists and liberal journalists of terrorism, extremism, discrediting the military and other offenses;

rewriting history to honor Joseph Stalin, the Soviet dictator who sent millions to the Gulag, through at least 95 of the 110 monuments in Russia built during Putin's time as leader;

accusing scientists of treason, equating criticism of war or Putin with terrorism or extremism and creating a new militarized elite of “warriors and workers” ready to take up arms, redrawing international borders and violating global norms on the orders of Russia’s strong ruler.

France is not at war with Russia: Macron noted new rhetoric , having met Xi Jinping

06.05.24

Macron said that France is not at war with the Russian Federation

Today, the French President held a joint briefing with the head of the People's Republic of China and mentioned Russia.

“We are not at war with Russia” - French President Emmanuel Macron made a “peaceful” statement after irritating the Kremlin with words about the possibility of sending foreign troops into Ukraine.

At a joint briefing with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Paris, Macron said that France has no desire to fight with the people of Russia. He also added:

"And we have no desire for regime change in Moscow."

At the same time, Macron clarified that it is necessary to ensure security in Ukraine, because without this there can be no security for Europe.

"This morning we wanted to explain the impact of this conflict (the war between Ukraine and Russia - UNIAN) on European security and our determination to support Ukraine for as long and as much as necessary. Without security for Ukraine there can be no security for Europe. However, we are not in the same boat with Ukraine,” Macron said.

Footage of an attack by a Russian Ka-29 helicopter on Ukraine's new missile naval drones in the area of the northwestern coast of the Crimean Peninsula. The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense "Group 13" used in this attack for the first time a new modification of naval drones equipped with two air-to-air missiles, presumably R-73 and R-60. This decision made naval drones more dangerous weapons, but at the same time made them easier to destroy, since missiles on drones are easy to detonate. Five unmanned boats of the Ukrainian army were reportedly destroyed. According to Ukrainian media reports, a Russian boat was destroyed; this has not been officially confirmed by Russian media. The video shows an alleged attack by a Ukrainian naval drone.

It will be interesting to see what route the West ultimately takes, but this info serves as a follow up to the previously iniative I mentioned recently.

The European Union 🇪🇺 is looking to confiscate all of the interest earned on Russian foreign assets frozen in their banks, and send that money to Ukraine in order to support their war effort. The result would be $3-$5 Billion usd annually in additional support.

Meanwhile, however, USA 🇺🇸 is set to unveil a plan in June to G7 leaders, in which the G7 would combine to send Ukraine $50 Billion usd in the form of a bond, that would be backed by (and paid back by) the same interest generated by Russia's frozen assets. The Americans are arguing that $50 Billion usd is a substantial amount of cash that would greatly improve the Ukrainian war effort and would provide it NOW, while it's needed, rather than over a number of years in a "drip feed" type scenario.

The only party ready to start a world war is Putin.

Whatever, the Europeans are determined to defend a democracy

Zelensky's tenure will end in the next few weeks.
The election was supposed to be last month.
Zelensky banned many of his opposition parties 2 years ago.

Wouldn't bet on the first one happening in any meaningful official capacity, and the third one is just funny. Author's speculation of "5000 troops from each of numerous NATO countries" seems like a pipe dream but the sunken cost fallacy evidently goes hard with these people, so what do I know?

After a meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden, Romanian 🇷🇴 officials are considering sending one of their Patriot Missile batteries to Ukraine 🇺🇦 to support Ukrainian air defense. Germany 🇩🇪 Recently agreed to send another of their Patriot batteries and Italy 🇮🇹 recently agreed to send one of their tier 1 SAMP/T batteries, however, Ukraine is looking for 3 more of either type to be committed...

Quality wins in the short term but quantity wins in the long term.
But things of the highest quality offered to Ukraine are not suited for the purpose of war, I dont even think any western made weapon is suited for war. There are a lot of examples, Excalibur shells have long ranges and high precision, but its precision was based off of using GPS guidance and the warzone reports that the use of Russian EW systems reduced their effectiveness to 6% in accurately hitting targets and this is not including the short life of the barrels of the howitzers or the current lack of shells while Russians use laser guidance krasnopol shells which they started to mass produce and have no problems with their shell productions. Western tanks were not modified like with cages or EW systems to deal with this war currently, clogged up filters for tanks would stall the tanks where you need to get off the tank to clean the filter assuming shell does not hit you for that amount of time. South Korean F-35 hits a bird in which the repairs cost more than the aircraft they purchased with other issues like pilots self-ejecting or a member from congress such as Gaetz saying of all the F-35s produced more than 2/3rds of them can't fly.

I do not want to sound like the Russian version of a NAFO fella that hyped up Javelins, Excalibur shells and leopards as game changing but some upcoming game changing weapons for Russia will soon extensively be used in the battlefield.

  • T-14 Armata as quoted by the head of Rostec is too expensive to use in the battlefield so it won't be used in the operations.
  • 57mm Derivation on an April 8 2024 source stated they are doing everything they can to get these systems to battlefield(sounds like it has high importance) They are like Pantsir systems but shorter range versions of them with shells that can engage cruise missiles, drones and helicopters and shells that can deal with armoured vehicles from 15kms away. Uses optics and radar to engage targets.
  • Koalition-SV howitzers entered service but mentions what the numbers are, its production per month or the production of special longer range krasnopol shells for it.
  • EW systems for persone, equipment and drones are shown to be extensively used.
  • Cage layouts and turtle tanks to deal with drones
  • February 2024 Telegram source states Hermes is going to be put into service in the coming months. Think of these 100km missiles as mach 3.8 drones engaging armored vehicles or helicopters and than imagine it got improved as Klevok-D2 with twice the warhead weight as mach 5-6 drones with more range as its future development down the line
  • Pantsir production got doubled accroding to the Russian General's annoucnement with the latest SM version announced with it and the 48 quad missile design to deal with cruise missiles, MLRS rockets, ATGMs and drones. two versions of S-500 systems to come this year into service.
  • A lot of news recently of their different ground drones being used in the battlefield with machine guns, explosives, EW systems and demining purposes.
  • Kurganets-25 and Boomerang IFVs that have increased survival against drones with newer armor and EW systems. 3 days ago they are being put under tests on the training grounds.
  • TOS-3 with EW systems, newer ammunition and a further range in development for large range area destruction.
  • Tornado MLRS production on full blast since 2022.
  • Increased production in rockets, missiles, shells,glide bombs, drones and military equipment as war continued
I think western journalists have stopped interviewing Ukrainian soldiers after this.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/09/07/ukraine-kherson-offensive-casualties-ammunition/

We lost five people for every one they did,” said Ihor, a 30-year-old platoon commander who injured his back when the tank he was riding in crashed into a ditch.
Ihor had no military experience before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24. He made a living selling animal feed to pig and cow farms. His replacement as platoon commander also has no previous military experience, he said.

Oleksandr said the Russian artillery fire was relentless. “They were just hitting us all the time,” he said. “If we fire three mortars, they fire 20 in return.”

This was when Ukraine was given over a million shells from the US alone besides Europe and as of now the stocks are nearly out, Europe is having difficulty finding shells and the shell production rate is still rather low. So what has Ukraine done to ensure their own survival or what has the west done to ensure their survival? When this conflict started to become longer than expected Russia took measures to ensure longer survival for their troops. The only thing I think Ukraine has done for their increased chance of survival was laugh at the cages Russia was using to only use them to some degree later. There is literally nothing in this weapons package Ukraine is receiving is anything new from what they have used before to improve their survival.

When Russia bombed an airfield in Lviv, a few days later news reports came out of Ukrainian military officials downplaying the F-16s before they even got them. And Putin was interviewed what happens if a 3rd party country was hosting Ukrainian F-16s and he stated those airfields would get destroyed with missile strikes. There are conditions that F-16s can land on roads but Eastern Europe or rather Ukraine does not have the best roads to do this before they get trucks with fuel and ammunition to them before they fly off again. Patriots being offered are not enough along with limited ammunitions since Russia's Geran drones are in massive production

Is western military equipment really made for war? It wouldn't matter if eastern European countries gave Ukraine the brave Ukrainian patriots and they all got converted into being super soldiers like Simo Hayha or Chris Kyle to solve the manpower issue with few days of training and Russian troops that have been training for months and doing rotations for this war all had the firearm accuracy of Star Wars storm troopers. I have seen too many western mercenaries with go pros with the last footage before it blacks out is when they are under artillery fire running.
