Ukraine will manufacture two stages for Antares launch vehicles

Yuzhmash produces the first stage for the Antares rocket

The American side decided on the configuration of the launch vehicle, which made it possible to conclude a contract with Yuzhmash.

Ukrainian State Enterprise Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant named after Makarova signed another contract with the United States for the manufacture of the first stages of Antares launch vehicles. This was reported by the press service of Yuzhmash yesterday.

"On Christmas Eve, a new contract was signed with our American partners on the Antares project. This is an order for the manufacture of the main structure of the first stage (OKPS) No. 21 and 22," the message says.

The state-owned enterprise notes that the situation was uncertain for a long time, since the future of the project depended on the position of the customer - NASA. However, the day before, the American side decided on the configuration of the launch vehicle, which made it possible to conclude a contract.

The plant is currently awaiting additional confirmation from NASA, after which it will be possible to agree on the production of several more OKPS.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine will supply additional engines for the Vega rocket. The contract for the supply of 11 blocks of the main engine RD-843 is calculated until 2023.

Denys Shtilierman, chief designer at the Ukrainian company "Fire Point," has stated that the FP-7 ballistic missile currently under development is not economically viable. According to him, the cost of delivering a 200 kg payload over a distance of 300 km using an FP-7 missile is approximately 600,000 USD, whereas delivering the same payload via an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) would cost 50,000 USD. He added that production of the ballistic missiles is continuing, but the units are currently being stockpiled for a future project called "Freya"—a missile defense system. The FP-7 ballistic missile is being developed based on the Soviet-era 5V55/48N6 series surface-to-air missiles used in the S-300 system.

Previously, a controversy arose regarding Ukraine’s FP-5 "Flamingo" missile, with reports suggesting that its production might be halted—a claim that was later denied. It is worth noting that the FP-7 has been under development for several years. Out of 39 launches of the FP-5 "Flamingo" between the summer of 2025 and 2026, 29 were intercepted. Only 6 FP-5 missiles successfully reached their targets, while 4 missed.

So, it turns out the Ukrainian missiles missed! "Only 4 out of 39 hit their target." 🙄 On the other hand, Russian propaganda never misses—it certainly hit our Russian friend here right on the mark! 😂
Listen, soldier, don't you have any other sources? That "Beacon of Knowledge" thing is pure, unadulterated propaganda. 🙄 Let me suggest something a bit more interesting—as a friendly gesture: the Russian site "Witnesses of the Bayraktar." I think that’s a much more fitting source for our forum 😉
