VCM-01 ("VCM" stands for "Vietnam Cruise Missile") is a Vietnamese subsonic cruise missile which is being developed by Viettel Aerospace Institute (VTX).

There wasn't much information has been officially and publicly revealed by Viettel or any parts of Vietnam's Ministry of Defence, however, according to many pictures and pieces of information shared on the media, VCM-01 is likely developed and derived from the Russian Kh-35 anti-ship missile, which is one of the main anti-ship missile types being owned and used by the Vietnam People's Navy.

The development of the VCM-01 missile is mainly held by Viettel Aerospace Institute.
In 2019, the first picture of the VCM-01 missile was made public. The model unveiled in a TV show showed that the new missile was very identical to the Kh-35, and information printed on the model's body showed that Z189 Shipyard also engaged in the development of the missile. In fact, Z189 has been the local manufacturer for the Kh-35's KT-184 missile launcher for the Vietnam People's Navy, so it is likely that Z189 will also produce the launchers for the VCM-01 missiles.[1][2]

In 2020, Vietnam and South Korea enter negotiations for the delivery of the South Korean SSE-750K turbojet engines to Vietnam, presumably for the VCM-01 project. This is the engine used in South Korea's SSM-710K Haeseong anti-ship missile, as well as its tactical land-attack variant SSM-750K Sea Dragon.[3][4] It is unconfirmed if Vietnam really choose this type of engine for its VCM-01 project or would Vietnam goes to another engine choice, such as the Moto Sich MS400 turbofan engines powering the Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missile.[5][6]

However, Vietnam is believed to likely choose the South Korean-made engine for the project, as the manufacturers of the SS-750K engine are "always ready to transfer the engine technology to Vietnam and allowing Vietnam to locally build and mass-produce the engine", which made the deal very attractive and reasonable for Vietnam.[7]

Vietnam could soon join wheeled SPH operator after Thailand and Indonesia.

We generally prefer wheeled rather than tracked SPH due to ease of maintenance. Although we also operate tracked ones.

Actually VN focus on upgrading Navy and Airforce first bcs we have a serious conflict with CN in SCS(east VN sea), thats why we buy Su-30 and 6 Kilos sub first and just start updrading ground force now .

Vietnam confirmed to upgrade scub missile to 500km sucessfully since 1994.

Vietnam is eyeing a major defence shift as it seeks to reduce its reliance on Russian arms and launch a push to export locally made weapons, officials and analysts said, with possible buyers in Africa, Asia - and potentially even Moscow.

We also cooperate with US and set up some startup companies in US like HERA to make our own weapons such as military drone.

I wonder if an Indian dignitary was visiting Vietnam at the time. @Viva_vietnamm ?

Likely PM Nehru's visit in 1954 I think, one of first world leaders to visit Vietnam after the Dien Bien Phu victory.

He highly regarded President Ho Chi Minh and they were very friendly with each other.

In 1961, PM Nehru when visiting US, strongly advised them to "stay out" of Vietnam....but they didn't listen.

Nehru told his foreign secretary to again tell the US:
"Tell them, tell them not to go into Vietnam. They will be bogged down and they will never be able to get out."

It is history now, but it set strong bedrock for India - Vietnam relations today which are excellent and getting better each year!

Actually many Indian were living in Vietnam before 1975, but they all left bcs the wars in VN lasted too long .

The ZSU-23-4M "Shilka" was equipped with a digital optical-electronic fire control system with an automated target tracking system in both day and night conditions and a laser range finder. The optical-electronic station was created by the Vietnamese company Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group. It was previously reported that the ZSU-23-4M "Shilka" was supposed to be equipped with double launchers for Russian-made "Igla" MANPADS, but so far the ZSU-23-4M is without them.

Sorry but what is the range of the guns, I tried looking it up, but it’s not mentioned on wiki.

It says 3,5 km for the polish upgraded one which is 500-1000m improved. Does that mean the one Vietnam has is effective within 2000-3000m range ?

Episodes of the Vietnamese army exercises using Russian-made T-90S tanks. Vietnam purchased the first 64 T-90S and T-90SK tanks back in 2017. The T-90SK is a command version of the tank. T-90S tanks are well suited to Vietnam with its climate conditions and terrain. The T-90 is lighter and can go where heavier tanks would get bogged down. The T-90S is an improved version of the T-90, which was created based on the needs of Asian countries. The tank is equipped with a 1000 hp B-92S2 engine, capable of accelerating the tank to a speed of 60 km / h, and has a cruising range of 550 km. The tank is equipped with a 125 mm 2A46M cannon. The T-90S tank is equipped with a simplified version of the Shtora-1 optical-electronic suppression system, air conditioning, and an automatic target tracking system.

Vietnam showed its new BXL.01 drone at the VIDEX-2024 exhibition, and its tests were also demonstrated. Visually, the new BXL.01 hovering munition is very similar to the Russian kamikaze drone "Lancet-52". The BXL.01 kamikaze drone is developed and manufactured by the Vietnamese Z131 plant of the General Directorate of Defense Industry. Despite the similarity with the Lancet-52 drone, the characteristics of the BXL.01 drone are significantly lower.
It is reported that the take-off weight of the BXL.01 drone is 8 kg, the weight of the warhead is 1.2 kg, the flight time is up to 10 minutes at an altitude of up to 500 meters. The flight range of the BXL.01 drone is up to 10 km, at a speed of up to 100 km / h.

Recently, Vietnamse netizen posted related video about VCM-B on highway. The video below is about Viettel corp delivered a complex for 680th Coastal Missile Defense Bridage in Da Nang city. The city is strategically locate in Central Vietnam, about 300km from the Paracel archipelago (Vietnamese: Quần đảo Hoàng Sa) , which were illegally occupied by China by force in 1974.
