MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian nuclear forces put on high alert Sunday.

The order means Putin has ordered Russia’s nuclear weapons prepared for increased readiness to launch, raising the threat that the tensions could boil over into nuclear warfare.

“Top officials in leading NATO countries have allowed themselves to make aggressive comments about our country, therefore I hereby order the minister of Defense and the chief of the General Staff [of the RF Armed Forces] to place the Russian Army Deterrence Force on combat alert,” Putin said in a televised meeting, according to CNN.

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov were present at the meeting.

The two leaders were ordered to put nuclear deterrent forces in a “special regime of combat duty.”

Not only is Putin’s latest decision a response to NATO’s so-called “aggressive comments”, but also a response to a list of sanctions western countries have put on Russia and Putin himself.

The alarming step by Russia came as street fighting broke out in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv and Russian troops squeezed strategic ports in the country’s south, advances that appeared to mark a new phase of Russia’s invasion following a wave of attacks on airfields and fuel facilities elsewhere in the country.

He will totally expose west , to an extent that no small country will ever rely on them . I never knew some one will expose them like that . Sanction have a limited impact on decision makers , North Korea , Iran and now Russia has proved that

@T-123456 , the best is to have strong diplomacy and good dependable arms industry is the way forward

I think you didnt get it,do you know why he reacted this way?
He is out of options.
Do you know what it means when a country's central bank is kicked out of Swift?
Check it out,

This will be devastating the Russian economy, people lose everything, the Rubel will be worthless, what do you think will happen then?
Iran,North Korea ring a bell?

I never said the sanctions will have no impacts but those impacts will be vice-versa atleast in case of Russia and hopefully China will give them enough breather to Russia to survive .

I think the reason why Putin visisted Delhi in dec 2021 to get some kind of confirmation from Indian govt . No one travels for 26 hours for a 6 hours meeting . India + China is almost 37.5% of world population and support or neutrality of these two countries can be helpful in surving the aftermath of attack on Ukrain

Regarding the impact of sanction on common Russian , I dont think any dictator ever thought about common people . My only point first west , used orange revolution to conatin Russia in its own backyard and now runninga way from helping them in the time of crisis . Who is stopping US from sending soldiers to Ukrain to fight against Russia ?

Nobody but who ever did that before?
It would be a declaration of war.

This is not the first time Putin started a war
Chechanya ---> Georgia(South Ossetia) ---> Cremea---> on going Syrian conflict ----> attack on Ukrain .

The only point is what west did to stop Putin before Ukrain . I can bet you one thing after this Ukrain war either whole Ukrain will become part of Russia or a phony country like Belarus and west will do nothing more then a lip service .

Putin is a 300 pound gorilla in the room and west dont know how handle him he is in power from last 23 years and no one has even slightest of idea how to handle him . Ukrain is literally fucked by west , they used orange revolution and now Ukrain is paying the price , pooor Ukranians

You guys did pretty well in this regard , now we are also moving slowly but surely towards it . We need it more then anyone else as we have two hostile nuclear powers on our door step
Not well enough,we need indigenous engines.
Only then we are good.
So far;
Helicopter turboshaft engine ready.TEI-TS 1400(TS 3000 project ongoing)
Some missile engines.TEI-TJ300,Kale TJ3200 ETC ready and projects ongoing.
But the most important one, fighter jet engines is at the beginning.

I still feel Turkey and India can help each other mutually . We can help in ballistic missiles and you guys have decent experience in MALE drones. Some joint projects with equal funding can reduce the cost and expedite the development cycle .

@Nilgiri What your views in the defence R&D collaboration between India and Turkey

Bro all the russian boyars oligarchs are big tied with the western paradigm, not Chinese one.

How many of them interact with Chinese economy and society deeply like they do with west?

Do many learn Chinese language?

That sets up the raw scope for the sanction pain.

These sanctions are going to bite really hard....whatever China nickel and dimes Russia to the east with (which the oligarchs again will not like and bristle against the Tsar).

Putin imo has bitten off way more than he can chew.

Sure Russia basic core is sanction-proof.....but that is not good enough for already too small economy they have that wants to maintain status and competitiveness this century.

There is good scope as always....but political relationship will need to improve for anything major to materialise.

I still feel the drone deal will be on , 3 billion dollar worth deal is too lucrative for US to cancel and too important for India as the quality ISR it provides is very very critical in IOR and Easter borders .

These 30 drones can make the core of unmanned ISR with support from upgraded Herones which further supported by Indian developed drones . But again lets see how Indian diplomacy deals with this situation

Those 30 drones would cost you $10 billion with all the tits and tats.
Making them at home(with some help) will cost you less and bring revenue in the future.
Change the mindset.
