Russia is going to intervene (In fact I am willing to bet on it)
The Biden-Putin meeting probably led to secret agreement in which the US gave green light for Russians to mount intervention in Afghanistan.
They will use mainly air-power and drones to counter Taliban. Man power will be provided by former Northern Alliance leaders and Tajik/Uzbek forces.
Can they oust the Taliban from Kabul? Most likely. Will it lead to everlasting peace and security in Afghanistan? Probably Not.

In Present days There are 2 other Countries which have build up and have advantage next to Afganistan and they applied influence already.
Why ppl look back and don't see present?!?
All at present is in hand of Afghans. They did it win the both Wars and repel Inviders.
So at moment all just wait and see what Afghans will decide for they future. Nothing else

But this time around, Islamabad appears not in favour of opening its border, and instead is ready to look into the ‘Iranian model’ if the situation demands.
“We have decided not to open our border for refugees; the aid agencies can help the needy on the other side too,” Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told Dawn.
“But, if the situation deteriorates, we will establish settlements along the border with strict control and monitoring, prohibiting the entry of refugees into the mainland,” he went on to say.
“The government would even follow the Iranian model to contain refugees in these camps and manage them effectively,” he added.

Once the flood of refugees starts it'll be too late.
Herculean task tbh, but if secure zone can be established in areas with minerals then it should be possible to use those minerals to keep the refugee camps alive.
China if given free reigns they'd kill everything that approached their zones/city on vehicle, anyone on foot would have to pass through 10 checkpoints and 100 mio. cameras for surveillance. All the while they'd erase religion with relentless fury. They'd start erasing any settlement deemed too close to their zones from existence as well, and expand that zone outwards. They'd probably implement cultural revolution for a country like Afghanistan.

85% of the border is fenced now. In addition there is the political will to restrict mass scale wave of refugees. There is no other option or the war will spill into Pakistan and we just are now inching out of decade old strife that has ruined our image across the world.
