NOTE: This event happened about four weeks ago. However it would appear that Indian Army and government deliberatly hid this from the public. It was leaked to the media few days ago. Note the time stamp on the report is 28th September 2021. This is important news on two levels. The bravado and wanton aggression by the Chinese PLA to intrude 5 Km into India amaging infrastructure on the way back. Also raise questions as to why Indian government chose to hide this Chinese aggression instead of not responding in kind.

More than 100 Chinese troops transgressed into Indian territory on August 30 through the border point at Barahoti ridge in Uttarakhand, the Economic Times reported on Tuesday, citing unidentified government and security officials.
They entered more than 5 kilometres into the Indian territory by crossing the Tun Jun La in the area, the report said. The government is yet to give an official statement on the matter.
The Chinese soldiers damaged some infrastructure in the area, including a bridge, and left before patrol teams of the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police could reach the spot, the report said.
The Chinese troops also brought 55 horses along with them and stayed in the area for around three hours during the reported incursion.
The Barahoti ridge lies north of the Nanda Devi National Park in Uttarakhand and is connected to the Joshimath district. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police monitors the nearly 350-kilometres long border between India and China in Uttarakhand, according to the Economic Times.

Local residents informed the authorities about the reported transgression, following which the Army and the Indo-Tibetan Police Force sent their patrol teams to the area, according to the report.
The incident has raised security concerns since Barahoti is a demilitarised zone.
“Earlier also several attempts were made by PLA [China’s People’s Liberation Army] to infiltrate the Barahoti area,” an unidentified government official told the Economic Times.
Meanwhile, another home ministry official told the newspaper that there were differences between the Indian and Chinese perception of the Line of Actual Control in the area, which has led to frequent incursions.
The two countries do not share a defined and demarcated border. Instead, there is the Line of Actual Control, which stretches thousands of kilometres from Ladakh all the way to Arunachal Pradesh.
The report came even as the troops of the two countries have agreed to disengage from several friction points in the eastern Ladakh region. India and China have been locked in a standoff in the region since May 2020. Chinese troops had clashed with the Indian Army at several points along the Line of Actual Control that month.
Tensions between the two countries escalated after the violent face-off in Galwan Valley on June 15, 2020. Twenty Indian soldiers were killed in the clash. The two countries have held several rounds of military and diplomatic talks since then to resolve the tensions.
India and China had in February this year disengaged from Pangong Tso lake in eastern Ladakh. After the commander level talks on July 31, the two countries also agreed to disengage from Gogra.

Over 100 PLA soldiers crossed the border at Barahoti in Uttarakhand last month, damaged some infrastructure, including a bridge, before retreating, according to officials aware of the situation. The transgression, even as disengagement of troops in eastern Ladakh has been progressing well, has sounded the alarm bells in the central sector.

While Barahoti has not been a major border flashpoint in recent years - minor transgressions are often reported - the place was the first area which saw transborder intrusions by the Chinese, in 1954, which later expanded to other areas and culminated in the 1962 war.

The incident on August 30 did not result in a face-off as PLA soldiers returned before they could be confronted. Over 100 soldiers and 55 horses transgressed over 5 km of Indian territory by crossing the Tun Jun La Pass, security establishment insiders told ET.

Whatever Indians claim, we are in our lands. They are just lying.

Actually New Delhi is indeed within the range of China's artillery fire, they better move their capital city further south for safety.

The British made a mistake in 1921 when they built the new capital at New Delhi and moved from Calcutta [Kolkatta] - I guess that must have looked like a good idea at the time.

Most of the design was done by Sir Edward Lutyens who was architect of repute in Britain at the time. So His Majesties government commisioned him to build the new capital for their Viceroy.

They entered a porous, undefined border, stole some horses and went back. As far as they don't apply for refugee status like the 100,000 Chinese refugees already here, it should be fine.

It was announced in 1911 and the formal shift happened in 1931. Calcutta was the commercial capital of India till the 1960s, on par with Bombay. It was also a hot bed of nationalism against the British - hence their decision to move it.

A lot of countries have their capitals within artillery range from their neighboring adversaries...particularly the smaller ones. We could literally decimate islamabad and lahore with our artillery if needed given their proximity from Indian border but that's not how war works and there are a ton of other factors at play. During active wartime, our political and military top brass will be moved to more secure locations while our deterrents are strategically placed all across the country. Also, the major cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai are all located towards the south

How can you not react if foreign forces enter your land? I dont understand.

Responses are given. Chinese just aren't transparent enough to announce it.

Been a recurring thing since ussuri and red river as well.

No borderguards,soldiers there?
The border is huge and not everywhere is manned and not even demarcated. They often cross each others' territories, but it's usually a small patrol, not a contingent as big as 100. When they come face to face there is usually a confrontation and both return

You need to fence it where possible.

The LoC with Pak has smart fencing. The race with China is to develop infrastructure. The earlier idea was to keep it underdeveloped on either side so it because useless to enter the area and move forward. But China has been on a infrastructure building spree and India is at least a decade and a half behind in building infra to service these areas.

The topography of the whole border tells the story. There are lot of remote areas that only starting to recently get more patrol and road access some distance away. This is known to both sides, so both can make a demonstration to the other if need be. One side just over time reveals more information on the matter.

So thats why according to this account/leak, the border guards from Indian side arrived hours afterwards (after transgression noticed by some villagers apparently)....by that time the Chinese left.

There is far heavier discrepancy (on accounts and information) between PRC and Vietnam governing their 1979 war and the 10 year border clashes after it. But one can visit Northern Vietnam and ask around etc....they will show the evidence.
@Viva_vietnamm

Point is over there its lot more habited area with more people....unlike remote himalayan frontier that allows more uncontested prodding.

Of greater relevance to both sides are where the crucial nodes and infra are on both sides. Those will be protected lot more and at greater distances.

Constant border monitoring at large is a resource question past it with low priority areas given compromise.

It took very long time for India to plug gaps in Kashmir border area with Pakistan.....driven by it moving up the priority as the many porous gaps the topography affords were used by Pakistan's covert war on Indian kashmir.

PRC does not have that issue with India in that manner (large swathe of habitated cultural land contested)....so the himalayan topography is not prioritised same way by Indian border defence strategy.

Stealing horses apparently
anyway the fact that the PLA manage to go unnoticed until it's too late did light up some deficiencies on the Indian part.

you should upgrade your surveillance technology on the border.
