Of all wars, the Brother war is the most intense, painful, impactful one my friend.
For the brother turned against you (and he feels same way).... yet deep down things are not forgotten....and further more things remain in the brothers subconcious.
Imagine if Bali and Lombok split away to become their own country on basis of religion (past all rest of a brother identity) not being same in some way as Java (the largest weight of the constellation)....and there was a massive bloody partition involving millions of families.
i.e pancasila system was not made and there was enough of this raw churn in the patricians involved to do this....
Imagine if Bali and Lombok later had major disagreement and bloody atrocious civil war not long after that (to match the partition again, but this time from the newer asserted brotherhood that rejected older brother).....and they went their own separate ways, one taking major help of Java (which it remembered all along deeper).
Then multiply that all by 10 times or so.....simply there is no brother war in Asia or the world that compares.
You will notice India's relations in all vectors past its neighborhood does not have this burden (Persia, Arabs, West, China, SEA etc).
In any case, our relations and trade with Bangladesh-bhai (whom we paid a lot to help liberate) is cordial, well formed and strong relative to our development levels. They will expand as our economies grow....we are both too underdeveloped still.
Political cycles of India (being the larger country by far) of course impact them heavily (and very regretabbly given some of our politicians thinking and noise).....but that is only of some relevance to the bedrock formed (that has been cleaved to the west of us on the patrician level and now taking shape with time to an extent past that).
But even for this latter "bedrock cleaved" one....even they take a huge amount of trade in the "soft culture realm" or hard trade conduited by UAE.
"Made in UAE" (sometimes just a sticker change) I guess is a more acceptable euphemism for " made in India".
Factoring that all in for income + development levels, the trade level actually makes sense.
=======================================
It is important to realise how few people at the top steered this brother war from the years 1900 - 1950 in the region....and all the coping mechanisms (regarding identity and all the basic things that make society tick) that fill the void downstream (short, mid and long term in all the areas).
It is not without deep poignant philosophical reason (in the great book) that after ejection from Eden (as man was not content with his innocence)....the first murder was that involving two brothers.
Very few Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis understand this deeply enough, as most are steered by local political paradigms downstream (that in of themselves harness the brother wars sad legacy in the mind).
In fact most (esp of the online variety that is most in vogue for mass discourse these days) are of the generation that didn't see the partition and east-wing civil war (for themselves) at all.
I am (as a southie) from part of India that is furthest away from the direct scars left by the brother wars "of the north".
We did not face the worst of that stuff, and we thus get on with certain matters much more frankly and better overall IMO....more or less as our syncretic region has always been before 20th century.
However we have our own brother war close by too (involving an island brother), its just on much smaller scale compared to the northies....and over time will resolve far quicker too.
