New Record Range of CAESAR with Excalibur Artillery Projectiles

Raytheon Missiles & Defense’s Excalibur artillery projectile fired at record range from CAESAR howitzer

YUMA PROVING GROUND, Ariz. — Raytheon Missiles & Defense, a Raytheon Technologies business, in partnership with the U.S. Army and French company Nexter successfully fired Excalibur artillery projectiles from a CAESAR self-propelled howitzer. The test proved compatibility between Excalibur, the U.S. Army’s Modular Artillery Charge System (MACS) and CAESAR.

During the demonstration the CAESAR-fired Excalibur directly struck two targets at a distance of more than 46 kilometers, a record setting range from the gun system.

“Integration with CAESAR now adds a level of mobility to the long-range and proven precision of Excalibur, providing the U.S. Army and partner nations more flexibility for this advanced, versatile weapons system for contested environments,” said Sam Deneke, vice president of execution for Land Warfare & Air Defense at Raytheon Missiles & Defense. “This success highlights the interoperability of a French howitzer with a U.S. munition and offers our customers more options to deploy Excalibur artillery from a range of platforms.”

Building on previous compatibility tests, this demonstration marked an important milestone toward operational capability for Excalibur’s integration with CAESAR.

“Chosen by eight partner nations, CAESAR is arguably the most successful truck mounted artillery system available today,” said Thierry Soulat, program manager at Nexter. “This demonstration with Excalibur underscores CAESAR’s compatibility with NATO standards for both conventional and smart ammunition.”

The Excalibur projectile is a true precision weapon, impacting at a radial miss distance of less than two meters from the target, providing accurate first-round effects at all ranges in all weather conditions. With its GPS-guided capabilities and multiple fuze modes, it is already a premiere artillery option for multiple countries using the M777, M109 series, M198, the Archer, the PzH2000, and the SIAC systems. Initial assessments indicate likely compatibility with the AS90, K9 and G6 howitzers.

Indonesian Army should trying to incorporated the Excalibur munition capability into their arms

No, it's that trident-shaped antenna behind the exhaust in the first photo.

Also, do I spot LWR receiver behind those smoke dischargers

They can form a Mechanized infantry battalion on the spot with such assets, and that's too with quite complete package (Reckon, fire support and APC).
Yeah 26 Anoa, 10 Komodo, and 7 Badak, that's almost a full proper mech batt

Weapon Locating Radar (WLR) Armed

61baf33eec5d0-viva-militer-weapon-locating-radar-wlr_1265_711.jpg

A sophisticated radar has been successfully created by the Field Artillery Weapons Center, Command for Doctrine, Education and Training of the Army (Pussenarmed Kodiklatad), in collaboration with PT Elektronika Utama, Bandung Institute of Technology (PT EU ITB).

Is the Weapon Locating Radar (WLR), an advanced radar capable of reading the trajectory of enemy munitions attacks. Not only that, what's more special, WLR is able to read and find enemy munitions crosses with a distance of 20 kilometers.

In a statement received by VIVA Military from the Information Center for Pussenarmed Kodiklatad, the main function of the Weapon Locating Radar (WLR) is to detect ammunition trajectories, for counting and parabolic gain (back azimuth).

In addition, the WLR is also able to read and detect the direction, distance and position as well as the coordinates of the shot and the fall of munitions on the target. Then the WLR is also able to classify the type of cannon that fires.

WLR itself has been tested for its capabilities in the Integrated Technical Heavy Weapons Shooting Exercise (Latbakjatratnis) of the 2nd Field Artillery Regiment/Army Strategic Reserve Command (Menarmed 2/Kostrad).

A number of ammunition fires from the smallest 76 mm/trk caliber cannon, to the large caliber cannon fired by the 155 mm GS Caesar and MLRS Astros cannons, were successfully read by WLR.

The WLR was also tested again in the Heavy Weapons Training for the Tamtama Vocational Education (Latbakjatrat Dikjurta) Pussenarmed, using the same main weaponry system.

It could be a passive radar, like that was made by ITB. The radome and the vehicle is different though.
