The reality is Brahmos is dual purpose - it can fire nukes. Though no one talks about that part. :p
I hope Brahmos Aerospace has used terrain mapping cameras with the latest AI models to accurately navigate terrains and the final S-dive mode for busting “behind the horizon” targets.

What kind of Turbofan used on the BrahMos or Nirbhay ? Can't seem to find one on the net @Nilgiri
Brahmos is a two stage missile with a solid propellant booster followed by a liquid ramjet. Infact, all components including the booster, seeker, onboard electronics and airframe are developed by DRDO while ramjet is the only Russian component (since Brahmos is still a JV) and is similar to the one used in P-800 Oniks

As for Nirbhay, it used the Russian NPO Saturn 36MT engine until last year where it was replaced with DRDO's Manik engine

MR appears to be a fundamentally different missile system with a different propulsion setup. Seems to be a derivative of Nirbhay (if the pic is correct).

Makes sense...SR is mostly intended for air-launched applications from naval helicopters/aircraft whereas MR seems to be designed for VLS launch. A lighter, cheaper subsonic alternative for the heavy, expensive BrahMos used on frontline ships. The MR in VLS or box launchers could be a very affordable option for lighter ships like NGMV or NGC.

On this topic, I'll quote from my post elsewhere on internet:

"...Recently, there were back-to-back tests of a new version of the BrahMos cruise missile platform from both ship (VLS launch from recently-commissioned P-15B DDG) & land (triple-tube ground launcher). The official releases mentioned a new "control system" but didn't go into details. The NOTAM for the launches was ~800km from coast lending credence to this being the 'extended range' version that fully unlocks the potential of the platform (previously restricted by MTCR).

The most interesting aspect is that the P-15B DDG no longer uses the 3TS-25E Garpun-B radar for anti-ship fire control...this could indeed mean that the new 'control system' for the missile could include the indigenous RF seeker & data-link, which now allow the missile to be fire-controlled by the ship's main MFSTAR multifunction radar - eliminating the need for the Garpun Bal-E.

The MFSTAR APAR can provide fire control-grade solutions over a much farther range, combined with the ship's ability for CEC/offboard targeting, prosecution of OTH surface targets over extended ranges (700-800km) should now be possible with a ~Mach 3 platform. All in all, a pretty significant development on the ASuW front for the Indian Navy, cementing a substantial firepower advantage over regional threats."

A flight trial of Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) booster was conducted from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur today at around 10:30 am. The test successfully demonstrated the reliable functioning of all critical components involved in the complex missile system and met all the mission objectives.

SFDR-based propulsion enables the missile to intercept aerial threats at very long ranges at supersonic speeds.

ELECTRO-OPTICAL TRACKING SYSTEMS

The performance of the system has been confirmed from the data captured by a number of Range instruments like Telemetry, Radar and Electro-Optical Tracking Systems (EOTS) deployed by ITR.

SFDR has been developed by Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories such as RCI, Hyderabad and HEMRL, Pune.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO for the successful trial of SFDR and said that this is an important milestone towards the development of critical missile technologies in the country.

Currently they are inducting PL-15E from China - which is a dual-pulse solid rocket missile (similar in concept to India's under development Astra Mk-II) for achieving long range, but no Ramjet program in the works as far as I know, so can't be compared to this SFDR or Meteor.

At some point I believe Pakistan will import the PL-21 (Chinese Ramjet) which is currently believed to be in testing.
