Wasnt SSB planning an electirc motor for the new Firtina howitzers? Have they shifted to a diesel engine?
That is an R&D project. Prototypes will be produced and tested. If it is deemed satisfactory then land forces will consider purchasing it.

Altay needs to be redesigned and rebranded. At the time it was introduced it was the most modern tank whereas nobody was thinking of building tanks any more.

Almost 20 years later, Poland, Korea, Germany, France, Russia, and the UK have all introduced new tank projects/concepts while we are watching the shit show our Altay project has become.

Yes, but keep in mind that we dont have a clear vehicle for T3. Also, base Altay (IDEF 2021) is already good, KF-51 panther is nothing but an upgraded Leopard 2A4 with some fancy add-on's and it weights 59 tons (OG 2A4 is 55), so not much of an improvement in armour department. You can easly add drone launching, autoloader(speculated in T2 or T3) better FCS and BMS to Altay. Dont worry guys, Altay is not outdated, it received lots of upgrades over the period while he was waiting for the powerpack

Also, K2 (the tank that Altay was based on) can withstand K279 APFSDS from CN08 L/55 gun from 500 meters to turret and the hull easily (around 750-850mms of penetration). And K2 weights 55 tons while IDEF 2021 Altay is around 68-70. lets say 5 tons were because of turret enlargement and APS+FCS additions, then we have around 8-10 tons of additional armor compared to K2, thats more armor than what the Leopard 2A4 has in the entire tank.

The technologies required for Altay weren't ready when it was designed. For example Akkor. Even if we managed to make that tank in the planned time it wouldn't be fully functional as was expected. During the long-delayed time, the not only engine was delaying also armor had problems because it was designed to use French armor (looks like so many important parts were EU originated). I don't know what is the situation in Akkor but given it was in the final stage of development last year, I am guessing it is pretty much ready.

BMC power group will need more time, that's sure. Otherwise, we wouldn't need a Korean power group for a transition period. We need to keep in mind that even USA didn't have an alternative engine for MTU back then. After the last deal with Korea, I think our engine might get into the production phase faster if there are technology exchanges during the talks. We were supposed to provide them some part to avoid the German veto for the Korean power group sale. I hope this was really a lesson for our arms industry not to trust Germany and France again. Also, a similar situation is the same with other countries, I saw a lot of comments swearing not to buy arms from Germany again from many different people (Spanish, Polish, etc).

Also, can anyone explain to me, what is the purpose of an electric engine in these tanks? It is impossible to add enough battery to run the main battle tank. 2 ton Tesla Model S has a half-ton battery and Altay is 65 tons. It must be a diesel generator plus an electric engine to run it but I don't understand the advantage of this kind of power pack on a regular internal combustion engine. Also, it requires huge design changes and I don't think we have a generator or engine capable of such a purpose. And I am hoping they don't plan to buy it from Siemens.

Why should we import Turrets when we are more than capable of developing the turrets in-house ?

Would love to see this Navalised, damnnnn :)

Capable and willing are two different things. Have yet to see any development on that front. Even Korhan was a hard pregnancy. If it was up to TSK they would put 25mm on their YNZHA and YNZMA.

105mm and 130mm (T3 Altay) should be fast tracked.

These tanks are not going to be powered by all electric powerpacks. It will be a hybrid drive train.
Just check out Firtina Hybrid power pack. You save so much weight with no transmission, lot less fuel and smaller engine that you can afford to put more batteries. 47ton Howitzer is powered by a hybrid drive train. Already done and working.

:) So why suggest Italian Turret if you believe that TSK would reject it anyway ?

There's plenty of Internal developments at Aselsan that haven't been publicised, but have been pictured and posted on forums from years back.

If it is a requirement, like Altay, Nefer, Korhan, 76mm Naval turrets MKE, Aselsan and or FNSS would be more then capable of developing.

Is Italy blocking the sale of the hitfact to us? If not why is this turret not being taken into consideration to induct Kaplan MT?
i remember Otokar have offered ARMA with Italian oto melera(Leonardo) Hitfist 30 instead of Turkish Mızrak 30mm turrets. İt was written in very first catalogue.

Edit:

Here you are. Otokar ARMA with Hitfistt 30mm

Will it need to be charged when the battery runs out or will the generator continuously supply power?
