They'll be next to useless
Presently certainly not - depend on how this war will end.

As for Snake island - especially in view of long range artillery this mini-island becomes in-defensible. So Russia is doing the right thing - they really don't need it to block wheat shipments or whatever - this island only becomes of interest again in case Russia moves onto/into Mykolaiv and Odessa.

I would like to add an important place from where threaten any ship coming or leaving, from the only important port in Ukrainian hands. In addition, the island is surrounded by significant oil and gas resources.

So this is another setback on russian goals.

I don't see it as a military setback at all - it's the right thing to do. Since oil and gas can't be exploited presently - it serves no purpose at all.
That Ukraine will use this to highlight moral and the will to win is understood - after all the Ukraine just lost 1000km2 in a week plus numerous cities, towns and villages.

Snake island was a springboard for a amphibious landing into odessa.

But that wont be happening any time soon as the Russians would have suffered heavy casualties in the landings.

Odessa has been fortified pretty much if Russian ships approach the Ukrainians will use anti ship missiles.

The garrison of Snake Island, according to Ukrainian military expert Oleg Zhdanov, experienced supply difficulties due to Ukrainian artillery shelling.

If we take a look to the current EEZ in black sea we could conclude how "de facto" Ukranian EEZ will end if RU is able to hold this island after the war.
Denying the access to rich resources of this zone will be a mayor drawback for Ukraine in the future and also a powerful diplomatic tool.

First time the Russians occupied lost land.

This gives hope for Kherson going back into Ukrainian hands.

4 months later the Russians lost a strategic island also the first time Russians who occupy chunks of Ukraine lost land. Im not counting Kiev because they lost that battle and withdrew. But Russia had plans to hold onto Snake Island just like how they holding onto Kherson and Maruipol.

Armed Forces of Ukraine freed Potemkino in the Kherson region
🤣💪🇺🇦

During the offensive, the Ukrainian military destroyed enemy infantry fighting vehicles and tanks, and also “caught” one tiger. The servicemen of the 60th Separate Infantry Brigade liberated the village of Potemkino in the Kherson region. A message about this appeared on June 30 on the AFU page on Facebook.

Day by day Kherson is getting closer to freedom.

DEADLY MARIUPOL THEATRE STRIKE ‘A CLEAR WAR CRIME’ BY RUSSIAN FORCES

1656595838246.png

An extensive investigation by Amnesty International has concluded that Russian military forces committed a war crime when they struck the Mariupol drama theatre in Ukraine in March, killing at least dozen people and likely many more.

In a new report, ‘Children’: The Attack on the Donetsk Regional Academic Drama Theatre in Mariupol, Ukraine, the organization documents how the Russian military likely deliberately targeted the theatre despite knowing hundreds of civilians were sheltering there on 16 March, making the attack a clear war crime.

Absolutely correct - but as long as Russia is not able to hold the coastline, e.g. via taking Mykolaiv and Odessa - this island is meaningless since it is not defensible against long range artillery. And it serves no tactical value in regard to supporting an amphibious landing - since it is far to small, and too far away from the coast to serve as a forward artillery post.
And I don't see Russia even being able to conduct any significant amphibious landings before Odessa would be surrounded/encircled.

It had a purpose initially in regards to denying air access towards Ukraine aircraft operating around that area - the moment Ukraine received PzH2000 and especially MLRS systems this island was bound to be cleared/evacuated.

If Russia should be able to continue it's slow-motion steamroller advance - and thus taking Mykolaiv and Odessa - Snake Island will automatically revert back to them, since the Ukraine won't have an EEZ or a harbor anymore.

they always withdraw their forces as "a gesture of goodwill", no your withdrawing because your getting your arses kicked. Russians dont know what goodwill is.

I was hoping that snake island would continue for another 6 months, its was basically a kill zone for Russians. Whoever they sent onto that island got destroyed.

Was also hoping the typical Russian lack of brains would keep them resupplying and rearming the island with their war junk and rapist soldiers so they could keep getting wiped out over and over again.
