4 definite and 12 optional initial order for Hurjet has been received by Tusas.
Currently 2 prototypes that will fly are being built. One of these will be for a trainer aircraft , the other in CAS format.

What is the job of a CAS aircraft specifically?
Like can it engage aerial targets in a dog fight and fire WVR, BVR, and Air-to-ground missiles or does it have other functions?

No CAS means close air support Its for air to ground missions Its not CAP (Combat air patrol).

Hurjet CAS version can also be identified as Light attack aircraft.
So as well as being a Close Air Support craft it will have capability to perform light attack duties. This version will have a Leonardo built Aesa radar on board and will have access to the use of all Turkish built weapons and missiles such as SOM, CAKIR, HGK, KGK, Gokdogan, Bozdogan.

need more then 16 make 160
During the HURJET program, the number of aircraft to be produced for the TAF will definitely be over 160. Although the first Hürjet and the last one to come off the band, will be almost like two different planes, even structurally, but anyway...

If I'm not mistaken, It has been announced that twin-engine configurations are being studied for Hürjet as like KE, and there will be or are studying on short take-off naval variants for both aircraft. Also there was a study about unmanned Hurjet. We cannot assume that a serial production decision will be made for each of these works, but on the other hand, SSB, which wants to create an industry that will compete globally, will support each of these projects until prototype production.

What I want to say is that we call the advanced training jet by the same name as, let's say, the twin-engined expanded wing area and structurally navalized aircraft, as they will be extensions of the same core-project. Officially, we have 3 jet projects. But in practice we are working on more.

For our defence industry to function properly, the one most important and vitally essential equipment that is in the heart of all our defence industry vehicles, is their engine.
Unhindered supply of this during peace and war times is non-negotiable. If you don’t have it, then you are in a conundrum that can not be solved.
We may have this now with Hurjet and TFX.
How can anyone makes a statement that says:

“Although there is a tentative decision to produce an indigenous engine for Hurjet, it is not our priotity at the moment, as we see the supply risk of the GE-F404 engine to be less.”

How does one learn not to trust these countries? Haven’t we learnt enough with Altay engine? Haven’t we learnt enough that USA is not to be trusted. Heck they kicked us out of F35 partnership by giving us a laughable excuse.

The way to go with these people is, to produce engines under license with as much local percentage as possible. Like we have done with T700 and Atak engines. Then develop your own using theirs as template.

You are right. That is the plan. Dr Aksit had stated that they were discussing with GE about TEI producing these under license.
But nothing has been finalised yet. In fact there was some talk about the under license production of first dozen or so TFX’s prototype engines of F110GE129E.
