Turkey elections: All you need to know about the opposition’s foreign policy
All you need to know about the Turkish opposition’s foreign policy
From returning Syrian refugees to visa-free travel to the EU, Kemal Kilicdaroglu has made some bold promises. But what can we really expect?www.middleeasteye.net
Libya Policy:
- “We will prioritise dialogue and a non-interventionist approach. We will be an honest broker in places like Libya by talking to all sides.”
EU policy:
Pkk:
- Government would uphold European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) judgements, releasing prominent Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtas and Turkish philanthropist Osman Kavala from prison.
- Under Kilicdaroglu Turkey would no longer pursue “foreign policy adventures”.
- Anti-Terror Law will be amended for visa-free travel in the EU.
- “Our fundamental priority would be core national security issues, such as the terror threat emanating from Syria and Iraq,”
Somalia-Qatar:
- “Why are we in Somalia? There is no reason. Why do we have thousands of soldiers in Qatar? Why are we in Libya, where we have taken a side in a civil war? We will review all of them.”
Syrian refugees:
- Syria policy would largely depend on dialogue with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad
- “Turkey has taken a side in the Syrian civil war, and it will be corrected,” the official said. “We won’t immediately withdraw from Syria, I cannot give a timeline, but we will discuss our conditions and see what happens.”
- “No doubt it will be on a voluntary basis,” the official said. “It will require incentivisation, job opportunities, and rehabilitation. And we will definitely want to share the burden with the EU, US, and UN.”
Russia and the US:
- Opposition officials agree that Ankara should continue this balanced approach by pursuing a position as a mediator.
- “We are against foreign soldiers on our land as much as we are against neoliberalism. We are ready to do whatever is necessary,”
- Turkey would maintain its relations with the US on the basis of equal partnership
- They will strive to re-enter the fifth-generation F-35 fighter jet programme. There will be solutions for the S-400 that NATO members will be satisfied with.
Greece, Cyprus, and Israel:
- As for neighbours Greece and Cyprus, both officials said Turkey would restart “results-oriented” dialogue with Athens.
- “If we cannot reach a resolution with them, we are ready to take everything to court, including maritime delimitation, territorial waters, and airspace,”
- New government would addressto begin continuous UN-brokered talks with the Republic of Cyprus in the south, failed 2017, dialogue in Crans Montana.
- “Our sense about Mavi Marmara is that Israel's monetary payments didn’t reach the families of victims,” the official said of the compensation promised by the Israelis. “We would look into this issue, but it wouldn’t disrupt our relations with Israel.”
- “We are ready to negotiate everything to normalise our relations with neighbours like Israel and Egypt,” the second official added. “We might have to discuss the presence of Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood in Turkey with them.”
- The second official said that a Kilicdaroglu government, for example, would like to deepen its defence industry ties with Israel and Europe, as well as the UK.
Gulf states:
- “We would like to have equal relations with everyone in the region,”
- “We don’t know exactly what promises were made, and what was taken in return,” the first official added. “We will have to see all of them to make our minds up on what will come next.”
did AK party write that for the CHP?
This ak party administration has been a total failure only seen as a success by politically minded islamists, the only thing a rival political party would need to focus on is the terrible economy. That would be enough to win an election. Instead they focus on everything else and focus on it in a way that makes you hate them. Surely it cannot be this obvious that CHP/AK are two sides of the same coin as if they are playing out a script.
The attacking of Bayraktar just seems far to obvious to me, even the ex-feto/ak party boys like Davutoglu and babacan went after bayraktar and any fool knows that will only help AK party. In the case of babacan this guys has been invited to about 20 bilderburg meetings making him Turkiyes most welcomed "internationalist" by the western world order, he's too smart to make such a mistake.
Its like if you are trying to win the nationalist, patriotic, secularist vote you don't go after Ataturk, you only go after him if you are trying to play a game where you want someone else to get the votes.
Yeah lets go after Bayraktar the company whose drones elevated in the international perception of Turkiye, that's going to get us votes. What next go after after TAI and their development of a 5th gen fighter jet. Tell Turks we are going to close this expensive project to save money and then expect people to vote for you?
yeah its too obvious.
To me it looks like democratically Turkiye is done, it only exists on paper in reality its a nation run in a similar way to how Russia is run. Powerful dynastic families with billions of dollars deciding how the country goes.
I think that AKParty are actually controlling the CHP. There’s no way otherwise. Even the dumbest guy on the planet can’t make these mistakes. Kilicdaroglu is controlled by someone for sure. If he truly wants to win he just had to talk about economy, and simply shut his mouth for the rest.
Baykar was never a state owned company...
You kidding right? Search who Ünal Ceviköz (Kilicdaroglu's advisor) is and what stupid statements he did and still does. You know that he condemed Türkiye's support for Azerbaijan during the Karabakh War accused us for sending Jihadis to Karabakh? In the 90s he ripped his a$$ apart to appeas Armenia and normalize relations with them...I am quite happy with CHP's foreign policy
*people pay for it.That guy is an idiot
Just because the gas is free for a year doesnt mean that he can do such shit; at the end the govt still pays for it
Turkey should never ever leave either Syria, or Libya, or Qatar, or Azerbaijan, or SomaliaYou kidding right? If you sleep and make one mistake in geopolitics it is irreversible, therefore Libya should not been abandoned so carelessly only to appease the West.
We must leave Syria by making a deal with Assad regarding refugees and YPG/PKK.Turkey should never ever leave either Syria, or Libya, or Qatar, or Azerbaijan, or Somalia
Each of these bases has a certain significance to Turkish interests and geographical integrity. I dont expect the CHP who regularly attacks Baykar to know this but at least the common folk should know
We must leave Syria by making a deal with Assad regarding refugees and YPG/PKK.
Azerbaijan, Libya, Somalia and Qatar are very important for Turkish strategic and economic interests.
You couldnt be more wrong mateWe must leave Syria by making a deal with Assad regarding refugees and YPG/PKK.

When a candidate who offers his services as a leader of 80 million people regularly asks the question: "why are we in Libya, and Qatar" even though the answer is sooo visible that all of us (who arent politicians yet know of it) proves one of 2 thingsLibya is not going to be abandoned. They are going to review everything and consolidate gains where there are positives, that was the statement.
1- it pushes the frontline from the Turkish/Syrian border to within the territory of Syria itself thus allowing more free use of Turkish land and peace of mind of the citizens since some rockets and shells may fall on villages bordering the area of conflict
2- Effectively hunt and destroy all the logistics, supply lines, training centres, as well as underground canals that the YPG/PKK were using to transit information, weapons, and drugs into Turkey
And here is the problem, you can never negotiate with Assad since all of the parties involved in the conflict want to use the PKK against Turkey. Therefore we have to negotiate a buffer zone that is jointly patroled by Turkish-Syrian/Russian Forces, Turkish drones monitoring from the sky, resettle Syrians.
When was the last attack on their logistics, supply lines, training centres etc? Are you kidding?
No there isnt a plan by the AKP to kick the refugeesAnd what will akp do? Is there any plan for sending them back? Are there any mention about it?
Btw who the hell are you to tell me remain silent? Are you a Turk Turkish citizen?
Nope, it is going to be abandonedLibya is not going to be abandoned. They are going to review everything and consolidate gains where there are positives, that was the statement.
