That's a billion Chinese ready to be drafted into the army, which in turn will kickstart an entire industry trying to feed, clothe, and arm them. Which in turn kickstarts an entirely new job market.

The West has grown accustomed to this kind of oversimplistic thought. Tell me which sanctions in the last 3 decades worked as intended ? In Russia, the war basically prevented the dying Russian heavy industry to closure, in Ukraine dying enterprises suddenly found new jobs designing and assembling drones etc.

It's not that simple when it comes to a war economy.
Don't say that about the automobile and aircraft industries in Russia; these industries died under Putin even before the imposition of sanctions in 2014 and 2022. Putin, publicly playing out patriotic themes, actually quietly destroyed and plundered Russian projects, fooled and soldered the Russian people. Russia was dependent on imports, now Russia flies civil aircraft confiscated from Western companies, purchases pirated spare parts, and also dismantles aircraft for spare parts. But this cannot continue for long, because the service life of aircraft is only 5 years.

Modern industrial production cannot do without oil. Without Saudi Arabia's oil, the Chinese economy is doomed. Of course, there is oil and gas from the Central Asian republics and Russia, I don’t know about their share in China’s industry, even if they make up half of the delivery volume, the Chinese economy will be hit. Several years ago in China, even without sanctions, there was a severe crisis associated with a shortage of coal for power plants, China began to save on electricity. Then, it is possible that Russia compensated for their lack. The United States also dealt a blow to China in the supply of chips, which means China will no longer be able to create high-tech products; this indirectly hits Russia, because Russia receives electronics from China.

The question of the possibility of the Russian army using nuclear weapons in Ukraine is constantly being raised online. There are quite a lot of supporters and opponents of this action; there is still no clear answer on this issue. Russian Army General Konstantin Pulikovsky gave an answer about the likelihood of using nuclear weapons in Ukraine. The video has been shortened. Subtitles YouTube

The Ukrainian army published footage of a Ukrainian FPV drone chasing a Russian Ka-52 helicopter. At the moment, an FPV drone does not pose a threat to a helicopter, since the speed of FPV drones reaches 250 km/h, and the Ka-52 helicopter reaches a speed of 350 km/h. But if the drone and the helicopter are on opposite flight paths, or when approaching the helicopter at an angle, the drone can hit the helicopter.

Two Ukrainian FPV drones attack a Russian T-72B3 tank. Footage of an attack by two Ukrainian FPV drones on a Russian T-72B3 tank has been published; this is a modernization of the tank created in 2011. FPV drones were equipped with warheads from RKG-3EM hand-held cumulative grenades; the RKG-3EM series grenade is capable of penetrating up to 220 mm of armor. RKG-3 grenades were actively used in the Soviet army before the advent of the RPG-18 grenade launcher. Reportedly, this attack occurred in the Krasnolimansky direction, where two tanks stormed a stronghold of the Ukrainian army; for an unknown reason, the grenades mounted on the drones did not work. The video has been shortened.

I wish that Ukraine wasn't being forced to "play nice" by the West. These terrible strikes on civilians would be best answered by striking the elementary schools mid-day, in a coordinated effort, in Moscow and St. Petersburg, where the children of the Russian elite go to school. A combined drone and missile strike that killed their beloved children without mercy would be music to this westerner's ears.

Have you ever seen dead children in person? Most likely you didn't.
But I did. I had the chance to briefly work with a NGO to help Rohinga refugees at border when they were fleeing the ethnic cleansing. Guess what? I strongly felt the urge to bring the perpetrators to Justice, and I still feel it to this day. As every normal human would do. But I never felt like some Burmese Children of Myanmar military elite should be killed as revenge.

If you ever actually saw a dead body of innocent child rapped in a blood soaked cloth, you never would've had the gut to advocate for deliberate killing of Children (of whomever they may be) as a tit for tat response.

I assume, you wrote it in hit of a moment. But in any conflict, ultimately there has to be something of values that differentiate the relatively good guys from bad guys. Otherwise, it is very animalistic on both sides. None of us should forget that.

No, I wrote what I did in calculated, well thought out fashion. Russians strike Ukrainian civilian targets without remorse, and without any attempt at collateral damage mitigation. The only way to get Russians to think twice about missile strikes with so little care for civilian life is to demonstrate a willingness to do the same in return.

Strike a couple schools and kill a couple hundred Russian children (especially the children that matter to the Russian elite) then go out publically and say the following...

"we'll continue to terrorize your children as long as you indiscriminately do the same to ours. Start targeting viable military targets, and leave our civilians alone, or we'll make it such that your precious oligarchs have their families hunted down and are killed without mercy, in Russia and abroad."

The only thing that Russia responds to is a heavy hand. Strike their elementary schools in affluent areas and send a message to Putin that you're not going to be terrorized into submission.

War is not for soft people. When British Air Marshall Arthur Harris ordered RAF bomber command to firebomb Dresden, Germany, turning upwards of 25,000 German women and children to literal soup due to the heat of the explosions and the subsequent wildfires, Harris did so with purpose... He was sending the Nazi's a message. "Stop indiscriminately bombing London and other British civilian areas, or we'll treat your civilians in an unfathomably inhumane fashion".

It worked. Dresden served as a shocking warning to the Germans. They were in complete dismay at the fact that their enemy could be even more cruel than they were. After Dresden was turned to ashes, German bombing campaigns in mainland Britain subsided substantially, especially against civilian infrastructure. The Germans (like the Russians now) knew that their territory was too vast to have adequate air defense to stop the British bomber command from repeating the Dresden tactic elsewhere. They feared cruel, calculated, capable retribution from the enemy and as a result, behaved with much more civility towards the British civilian populous moving forward.

I meant every word of what I said. A cold, cruel, calculated, mid-day strike on multiple affluent Russian elementary schools, followed immediately by a national message to the Russians to start behaving in a civilized manner and stop acting like sub-humans.

The Biden Government is preparing to use a different method of delivering military aid to Ukraine if the Republican Congress holds up a spending bill for additional funding. The State Department has money remaining in their budget that they can use to grant to allied countries for the purchase of military equipment from the USA 🇺🇸. Essentially they would grant Ukraine the money they need to "buy" weapons from existing U.S. inventories. In reality, the funding mechanism would work differently, but it would look the same in terms of delivery time lines and continued support.

Furthermore, USA is in talks with several "unnamed" countries (Canada being one of them) to have those countries purchase weapons from exisiting USA inventories, for explicit delivery to Ukraine. Those weapons would be delivered directly to the Ukrainian military by the USA, but the U.S. military would be re-funded by friendly governments for sending them.

Britain 🇬🇧 will send Ukraine $600 million usd in macro financial assistance over the winter months to bolster the power grid in Ukraine, in preparation for more Russian attempts to attack infrastructure and the power grid, in hopes of freezing the Ukrainian population to death during the winter.

Its tit for tat. I see no problem in this actually.

See my friend, we both try to be pragmatic in our own ways. But to me this is fundamental that we stand by our values in an existential crisis. In fact those values maybe the only thing that differentiate us from our enemy in the end, and makes us who we are. Hence giving us the much needed moral boost to continue fighting a conventionally superior enemy against all odds.

As we all know, one of the core competence of successful warfighting is to 'know yourself and know your enemy'.

(As fighting power consist of three components, Conceptual, Moral and Physical,) I believe this applies to the moral component as much as it does to the others two.
