The Turkish Competition Authority has approved investment rights for the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, Birgün newspaper reported on Monday, amid an informal boycott by the Kingdom of Turkish products.

The greenlight provided by the country’s competition authority allows for Saudi Arabia’s national petroleum and natural gas company, Aramco, to establish production facilities for the development and operation of facilities producing non-composite products to be used in petroleum and natural gas applications in Turkey, Birgün said.

Relations between Riyadh and Ankara have been strained since the death of Saudi dissident journalist Jamal Khoshoggi in Istanbul in 2018, and the kingdom has recently extended its unofficial boycott on Turkish goods.

An unofficial embargo on Turkish products has continued since last year in the country.

Earlier this month, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met with his Saudi Arabian counterpart Faisal bin Farhan al Saud during an Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Niger’s capital Niamey, signalling a normalisation of ties between the two regional rivals.

Saudi-Turkey relations are mind blowing. Until yesterday they were issuing a hidden embargo to Turkish products but today they got approval for a big investments in Turkey.

Indeed. Trump lost and the Saudi's are seeing that the Israeli's are trying to using them as a meat-shield against Iran.

Honestly it looks like their (KSA) "unofficial" embargo was a bunch of BS in the end w.r.t Turkish imports:

Even when KSA is reporter of the figures, they increased their imports from turkey in 2019 compared to 2018 (and in fact Turkey was the one to reduce its imports from KSA):

This just establishes even more when you have Turkey as reporter of these figures (i.e turkey reports 3.2 billion exported to KSA in 2019).

The Saudis made their first application for investment on April 16. Investing has nothing to do with current political developments.

Unlike other countries, Turkey has been always open to business. Just look at the Israeli relations for example or the fact that Vestel was allowed to export drone tech to Saudi Arabia. Let's see if this is just one single investment decision or if relations will improve and Erdogan will start calling Saudis brothers again.
