Could also be that they are unhappy with Aselsan not being able to scale production fast enough. Maybe the EOTS is a bottleneck and they are solving it by doing it in house
You think Baykar can it better and faster than Aselsan?

Vertical integration works when you have the R&D labs that could further the science and the technology without being tied to your suppliers abilities. What is BAYKAR's know-how and know-why regarding the IR FPAs? It took decades ASELSAN to develop and serially produce cooled MCT detectors(along with other cooled and uncooled IR sensors). Will Baykar start poaching ASELSAN scientists for R&D or just do systems engineering with the supplied detectors?
Vertical integration doesn’t mean necessarily to invest heavily in R&D or cut off your other suppliers. Baykar is nowhere near the level of experience compared to Aselsan, Roketsan, TEI etc. They'll introduce step by step licensed IP or acquired tech, grand scheme of things is to take more control of your production supply chain from raw material, suppliers to distribution.

Knowing that Selcuk Bayraktar is an Penn Uni and MIT alumni he might be inspired by US companies like SpaceX or Tesla and ambitious enough to first produce and later design & develop more and more outsourced or supplied systems inhouse. Otherwise, why would he do that if he can buy superior FLIRS and EO systems from Aselsan?

Local contribution is very low in Baykar's EOTS systems. They are basically outsourcing nearly everything. Baykar assamble them inhouse to create the end product but Baykar is developing its own software and AI suite this is where added value comes. Eventually local contribution will get better but Baykar won't ever produce a FPA in house just like Baykar can't produce single crystal blades for their own engines.

Fergani acquired DeltaV's research on hybrid rocket engines. DeltaV supposed to develop orbit transfer vehicle and hybrid launch system bu now Baykar Fergani is developing them. DeltaV is owned by SSB so it is handed to a private company for free. Baykar will probably buy single crystal blades from TEI for their engines and will probably buy FPAs from Aselsan. It is interesting how easy Baykar has access to those hard earned things but a lot of companies denied access to those components. A Turkish EOTS startup wanted to buy Aselsan FPAs but Aselsan rejected. Baykar doesn't need to do anything it seems the all of the Turkish defense industry companies will work for them.

Being the son in law of the president must help for sure.

Comparing a startup to Baykar is a bit stretch yeah?

Also that startup used smaller arrays dont they? And main problem was that ASELSAN couldn't supply to them given that ASELSAN needs the arrays themselves first

I believe it to be plausible. Aselsan is an R&D focused organisation and like TAI have a hard time scaling production. Baykar is a mass-production focused organisation.

They are only a fraction of it in terms of the R&D budget, man-hour and facilities.

Baykar produces the systems through brute force unlike TAI or suppliers like TEI, Aselsan, Roketsan. That is another reason why TAI does 5 tests with ANKA III and catches up, then goes ahead of Baykar's KE. How many prototypes Baykar produced up until now and hasn't been on pace with KE in terms of avionics. This is doctrinal approach, Baykar puts R&D aside and only utilizes what is essentially necessary to make things 'appear', burn cash, gain confidence of the public, use soft power, boost morale of the workers and move on to the second iteration. They infused most of the subcontractors with this manner, but in some it didn't reallg yield the expected results. For example recently they have signed an agreement with TEI for TJ60 as opposed to what they have been using, IdeaLab.

Baykar is far more privilieged than we all believe, it is fine with land allocation, incentives but acess to the resources, facilities of beyond our imagination ( i know some, i won't talk of it ); this now begins to damage the Defense industry.
