Vestel's Import-Based Assembly Model

Vestel sold 2.76 million televisions in 2023.

Net sales revenues (112 billion TL), net profit was 2.3 billion TL, while net profit margin was 2.1%. So how much tax did it pay? 0, literally ZERO!

So why?

Because they don't produce anything in their mega factory. They buy TV panels from Chinese Tienma and Taiwanese AUO, power card designs from Taiwanese Delta, TCON designs from LG, and components on the motherboard from Taiwanese and Chinese manufacturers.

15 years ago, when I was a university student, I worked as a translator for Vestel's senior management, the Taiwanese chip company MStar (later bought by MediaTek) was producing image processing chips for Vestel. You won't believe it, but even the language packs in the remote control (Menu) interface were loaded by MStar in Taiwan.

They even bought the injection molds for the plastic cases of their televisions from Taiwan.

In other words, there is a production based on imports, a completely assembly industry.

R&D activities are just a story; they just arrange the components on the PCB and assemble them.

Look, they produced 2.76 million TVs in 2023 alone. There are 4 standard HDMI connectors on each TV, which is about 11 million units. The company that produces this connector in China pays hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes, but a company with a sales revenue of 112 billion TL does not pay taxes.

Because their profitability is very low; they do not pay a single penny in taxes when their expenses, incentives, etc. are considered.

So, do they have a problem with increasing profitability?

No, they do not!

They do not have time to produce competitive technology because they are dealing with people's beliefs, their clothes, their beards.

They are not worth a penny, they do more harm than good to the country.

Vestel does not do any real production; it just puts the parts together.

Domestic Added Value 10%

It does not produce its own display panel, it is dependent on foreign manufacturers such as AUO and Tienma.

It does not design its own chips, it is dependent on companies such as MediaTek (MStar).

They do not even design their own power circuits (power cards).

The Chinese and Taiwanese Pay the Tax, Not Vestel:

Even the HDMI connector is imported!

• When a manufacturer in China or Taiwan produces that HDMI connector, they pay tax because there is real industrial activity there. But since Vestel only imports and assembles, there is no tax burden.

They Do Not Worry About Increasing Profitability:

• If their aim was really to develop domestic production, they would invest in producing their own chips and screens.

But instead, they keep costs to a minimum and continue to return with low profit but high turnover.

The system is based on not paying taxes!

R&D Activities and Reality

Although it is constantly claimed that Vestel does R&D, it is debatable how much added value a large part of this R&D actually provides. Because it is seen that no innovation is made other than arranging the components on a PCB.

While the world's major television manufacturers (Samsung, LG, Sony) design their own display panels and chips, it is thought-provoking that Vestel is still dependent on imported components.

• Vestel imports 90% of a television from abroad and focuses only on the case and assembly.

• It does not create any real innovation or added value.

Conclusion: Does Vestel Contribute to Türkiye?

As long as it continues with this model, it is difficult to say that it makes a big contribution to Türkiye in the long term.

• No real technology is produced.

• It survives with tax advantages.

Almost all of the production depends on imported inputs.

It does not seem to have a goal of creating its own technology.

Therefore, Vestel needs to make radical changes in order to be a truly competitive and sustainable technology brand.

They can start this change by firing the 28 February remnant named Cem Köksal, the Islamophobic CEO of the Holding

Can be the import based assembly Model from Vestel the Reason, why Kargi not entered serial Production till now ?

Is there another company that has a Kargı replacement that SSB can turn to?
Only one that comes to my mind is STM, they have been working on RF seeker for Kargu. Even though it is not the same at all, perhaps they can use their seeker with a system like Kargı, perhaps in cooperation with Roketsan. Otherwise, we are stuck with whatever the fuck Vestel can or can't do.

Our unmanned aerial vehicle AKSUNGUR has achieved a new success that makes us proud.

AKSUNGUR, which carried out the test flight with the national engine, hit the target directly with the Aselsan production LGK81 and LGK82 ammunitions.

This success once again reveals the point our national defense industry has reached and adds strength to Turkey's journey of independence in the field of defense. 🇹🇷

What Aksungur requires is a sonobuoy launcher.

Great news for Aksungur. But I wish they actually stated the range and altitude from which it fired the LGK munitions.

We are seeing more and more drones being shot down by separatists. Either these rebels have access to sophisticated AD systems or the drones are flying too low and/or too close to targets to make them vulnerable to man pads. Also it would be nice to know if Aksungur had updated EW against ground threats.
In the earlier days, Anka drones had better EW jamming against Syrian ground AD systems when TB2s were easily shot. Since then a lot of water has gone under the bridge. Ground AD systems have evolved. So have the jamming systems.

From DefenceTurk in 2023 via @Kaan Azman (highlights are mine)

Ömer Yıldız from TAI:

"We need a target aircraft that flies at high speed, at supersonic speed. We are developing a faster version of the ŞİMŞEK aircraft that you see here, especially for the need for a target aircraft that can simulate missiles at high speeds and supersonic speeds. Our aim with this was also to reach supersonic speed. These aircraft have equipment on them that we call radar cross-section enhancers, which can make them appear larger by up to ten square meters.

We can communicate continuously with the link systems on our aircraft. When we launch our target aircraft from ANKA, ANKA can transmit data to the ground. We can transmit images from the cameras on our target aircraft to the ground in this way. We plan to have our target aircraft, which can currently reach speeds of 0.9 Mach, reach speeds of 1.1 to 1.4 Mach. We can also transmit images from ANKA to infantry on the ground. Our development work on ŞİMŞEK continues. In this direction, we are working on different engine options and 4-squad formation flights."

The Anka-3+Supersimsek combo is a nightmare scenario for even the most advanced enemy air defense systems.

I just want it to be able to carry 2 Super Şimşek and 2 Som-J. Sends the decoy, finds the radar and destroys it all on its own, while remaining well out of reach of all but few aa systems.

This test is pretty much a big step in OKU as ANKA-III is the main platform to deploy Süper Şimşek for many things

Electronic warfare and decoy are just a part of what it can do. You can turn it into a light cruise missile or use it against large aircraft as a sort of loitering air-to-air missile. Just think of how much of a detterence is a pack of these against AWACS and transport aircraft when deployed in a defined sector.

Any information about range and payload (weight) would be appreciated

Anka-III without it's stealth Charateristics will be an easy Target in an contested Airspace, the Problem is that Süper Simsek does not fit in internal Weapon Bays of Anka-3. This mean it will lose it's Stealth Charateristics. It can be possible when Anka-III works within a unmanned - unmanned or unmanned - manned Team. It can fly in fully Stealth mode in contested Airspace and provide Targeting Data to other Drones or Aircraft.

If the quoted 700km range of Süper Şimsek is true it would be "fired" from Anka-III well before it enters any contested air space so not fitting in the internal bay wouldn't be a problem. Süper Şimsek is more like a Loyal Wingman than a missile.
