17th International Defence Industry Fair, IDEF 2025

IDEF (International Defence Industry Fair) is one of the leading and globally recognized fairs in defence industry. Hosted by Türkiye, this international fair brings together defence industry companies, military officials, experts, and other stakeholders in the defence sector to showcase innovative technologies and explore cooperation opportunities.

IDEF is organized under the management and responsibility of Turkish Armed Forces Foundation and is held biennially. Beginning in 1993, the fair has provided a significant platform for introducing the latest developments, products, and technologies in the defence industry. At the Fair, a wide range of products and services are exhibited, including naval, air, and land systems, military equipment, security devices, weapons, ammunition, and defence electronics. Participants include defence industry companies, military officials, defence industry experts, government representatives, media organizations, academics, and non-governmental organizations.

17th International Defence Industry Fair, IDEF 2025, will be held at Istanbul Expo Center from July 22 to 27, 2025. The Fair is hosted by Turkish Ministry of National Defence, supported by Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Secretariat of Defence Industries, managed by Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, and organized by KFA Fairs Organization Inc.

Scope of IDEF

IDEF is one of the most comprehensive platforms in the defence industry. The fair offers various products and solutions in land, sea, aviation, space, transportation, security, logistics, and supply. It is a significant meeting point for major defence organizations, industry leaders, military personnel, and all professionals interested in defence technologies worldwide.

As one of the leading events in defence and security technologies, this organization showcases a broad spectrum of products and services, from main battle tanks to air defence systems, from military medical equipment to security warning and alert systems. Every year, thousands of visitors attend IDEF to discover the latest technology products, follow innovations in the sector, and explore collaboration opportunities. The fair provides a broad perspective to industry professionals and visitors by bringing together current and future innovations in the defence industry.

The Establishment of TAFF

TAFF (Turkish Armed Forces Foundation) was established as a result of the merger of the Army, Navy, and Air Force Strengthening Foundations, which were founded with donations from the Turkish public in the 1960s and 1970s to develop the defence systems and products of the Turkish Armed Forces based on modern technology. This merger was formalized by the TAFF Law No. 3388 on June 17, 1987, and the foundation began its activities on September 26, 1987.

Based on the decision of the TAFF Board of Trustees on January 24, 1992, to conduct fair services encompassing the defence industry under the management and responsibility of the TAFF General Directorate, the IDEF International Defence Industry Fairs have been organized biennially in odd-numbered years since 1993.

As of 2024, TAFF:
  • Has established a deep bond with over 230,000 donors.
  • Is a direct or indirect shareholder in 73 companies, including 6 subsidiaries and 9 affiliates, each playing significant roles in key areas of the Turkish defence industry.
  • Is proud to have successfully managed and overseen the 16 IDEF International Defence Industry Fairs from 1993 to 2023 and to be directing the preparations for the IDEF 2025 Fair.

I don't expect much this year except maybe two or more new munitions as I've heard something about that not long ago.

Sounds more like a ‚wishlist“.
Only anka 4 can be considered wishlist because of lack of engines but if we use 2 of f16 engines amd make a bigger anka 3 version can be possible but again engines are USA and they can stop anytime and ask us 'favors' in return .
- Anti ballistic/satellite missile is aslo possible since we made siper b2 just larger its body and add pif paf small engines to move outside atmosphere or make movable thrusters at its last stage kinda like arrow 3 . I dont know if Turkiye have that technology but since is making satelites itselfs i hope so

Cenk Mrbm/anti ship ?
Tayfun and CENK. Two hypersonic missiles that are amongst the most potent weapons of Turkish attack missile armoury.

To hope for anti ship capability seems to be wishful thinking at this stage. I was also hopeful that these missiles would at least have anti ship capable versions. That would make them real game changers. May be there is work being carried out that we are not aware of. There has been a lot of unofficial news about anti ship version of Bora and Tayfun. But nothing concrete has emerged so far.

However at least for Tayfun, Roketsan has shared the guidance system as GOLIS. That is Go Onto Location In Space, shortened.
It is a guidance system that specifically targets stationary positions and platforms. So moving ships in the sea will not be Tayfun’s target unless a new version is also being developed.
Cenk being the big brother of Tayfun and being developed as a follow on missile, it having anti ship capability will be too optimistic.

Kara Atmaca with its “guestimated” 450 to 500 km range is the current anti ship missile that will keep enemy ships away from our coasts. That is until a Ramjet version of Atmaca becomes a reality. Since ramjet engined Gökhan a2a missile’s natural and logical successor is bound to be an anti ship ramjet powered missile.

I don't expect much. It will probably be more of the same. I heard that many important projects won't be demonstrated due to not getting the required permission from the SSB. There is some time, maybe the presidency will push for a more open approach, as the defense industry has propaganda effects, and the AKP is having the worst political performance since it started its political journey. Most of the time, final decisions are given a week or 10 days prior to the fair.

Having ASBM alone is not enough, the Targets for these Kind of Missiles need to be spotted and classified. This can be done by Satelitte Networks in LEO as well a Network of high Altitude ISR Drones. China is far ahead in this Area. For ISR we still rely on EO Satelittes, SAR will be available between 2028 - 30 to classify the Targets by Day and Night and under all weather Conditions. Another Way to provide targeting Data are OTH Radars, they have an Disadvantage in the Range. We can use use E-7 T AEW&C Aircraft to detect a CSG, the Range is limited to 600 km. In this Range the enemy CSG will become a Threat for our Mainland and we can not engage a CSG from any Intervention against turkish Interests in Libya !

Anyone can attend this year. It is not difficult to get invitation cards, but even if you can't, there will be an open day. I'm not attending BTW. It is too big and there is no way to see everything in a single day.

Can you please ask Aselsan if Korkut 25 can be integrated with AKKOR, if yes, does it still need extra radar or can it use AKKOR's radar?
