Exclusive... Airdrops of foreign troops in Iraq
The Independent Arabia learned from a government source in Iraq about a foreign airdrop in the Najaf desert, and the source confirmed that the foreign force is believed to belong to the United States andIsrael, and there have been clashes between it and Iraqi forces.
The source noted that the force's tasks may include planting spy or aerial surveillance devices or sending support to groups warring Iran through Iraq.
On the other hand, the MP for Karbala province, Zuhair al-Fatlawi, released the details of the "airdrop" that took place in the desert of Najaf, stressing that the information was "from his own sources".
Al-Fatlawi said in a statement seen by "Independent Arabia" that "a force believed to be an American force carried out a rapid landing operation in the Najaf-Karbala desert in southwestern Iraq, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, and according to our reports, the force entered from the Syrian side, with a number ranging from four to seven helicopters, accompanied by the deployment of military wheels of the type (Hummer) in an area about 40 kilometers away from Al-Nukhayeb."
"A military force from the Karbala Operations Command, consisting of 30 Hummer vehicles carrying Iraqi flags, went to investigate the news, which was confirmed by Iranian channels, as it coincided with shelling in the Samawa desert and Anbar, which strengthened the atmosphere of tension and speculation of a security escalation in the area," he said.
"The Iraqi reconnaissance force came under fire and aerial bombardment, which led to the death of one fighter and the wounding of two others and the damage of one of the military wheels," Karbala said.
"The news was issued by Iranian channels, while no precise details have been released by the Iraqi side or the joint forces, which confirm or deny its details so far," al-Fatlawi said.
"The area is located within the responsibility of Iraqi military formations, and is characterized by a complex geographical nature that includes deep valleys, rocky hills and sand dunes, some of which reach a height of about 200 meters," the spokesman explained.
MP Mohammed Jassim al-Khafaji revealed on Wednesday in a post on his Facebook account that "a military force of the Iraqi army affiliated with the Karbala operations, numbering about 30 military 'Hummers' and flying Iraqi flags on them, went to reconnaissance and to clarify the position regarding the landing, but it was subjected to aerial bombardment."
"The shelling resulted in the death of one fighter and the wounding of others," al-Khafaji said, stressing that "US forces made up of helicopters and soldiers stationed there".
It is worth mentioning that the Joint Operations Command announced on Wednesday morning that it was shelled while carrying out a search mission in the desert area linking the provinces of Karbala and Najaf at dawn today, which led to the death of a fighter and the wounding of two other heroes of the security units.
"Following the incident, a higher investigation committee was formed to determine the circumstances of what happened and take the necessary legal measures," the Joint Operations Command said in a statement.
The statement stressed that "the recurrence of such incidents against our security forces inside our territory and while performing their duties is a violation and an unjustified act, and represents an unacceptable violation that will be dealt with in accordance with the laws and military norms in force."
An informed government source, who declined to be named, said that unknown foreign forces (as described by the source) carried out an airdrop in the desert of Najaf province targeting the army and the Popular Mobilization Forces, and a military cable was received about this security breach in this highly sensitive area in Iraq.
"Information was received from an Iraqi shepherd about the presence of an unidentified foreign airdrop in the area of al-Thabaneh, a district of Najaf, where helicopters ranging in numbers ranging from five to seven were observed sharing military wheels of the 'Hummer' type camouflaged in a desert color," the government source said.
The source added that "the authorities in the area have taken measures of caution, caution, and extreme attention and verifying information to thwart the intruders' intentions," adding that "the authorities in Najaf sent a telegram about the exposure of the military forces and the Popular Mobilization Forces to a foreign attack, which occurred at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, accompanied by an aerial bombardment by a force from the 41st Brigade of the Second Regiment, an Iraqi army affiliated with the Karbala Operations Command."
The source explained that "the incident led to the wounding of Colonel Infantry Colonel Haidar Abdul Sada Radi Al-Khuzaei, the commander of the second regiment, and three members of the brigade, and the wounded were transferred to Karbala Hospital and they are still there, and the Iraqi forces are conducting an extensive investigation to find out who made this hostile infiltration and examine the defensive fortifications."
