Anyway, the current in Celebes Sea is generally East - West direction and Southward when entering Makassar Strait until it met the Northward current that flow from the edge of Java Sea at 0° latitude. It's rather chaotic down there (underwater) at 0° latitude. Most Indonesian traditional fisherman are well aware of this and doesn't need any academia or chart to tell them otherwise. Most traditional fisherman around here doesn't even have compass let alone GPS or chart.

Well these maps rather present a large scale major currents, i dont't expect these to model down to medium scale currents. I don't assume this are achieved with a small resolution as well.
But believe me japanese academians leave their chair, i haven't seen many who use their chair. If they need to use it, they quit.
Just shared the map so people may have a glimpse of, how something left in Pacific or SCS end up in Sulawesi.
I still wonder why Indonesia hasn't bought some gliders as well to set these in territorial waters, there were some ambitious university teams i wonder if they received any major support.

It can't. The geography (terrain) already hinder anything to be drifted from SCS to Makassar Strait, the probability of it is way too slim (island chain in the way). While if its came from West Pacific, the current on the Northern edge of Celebes Sea is West - East direction, which will push anything to go back to the Pacific side

As you may have notice among Indonesian posters. There is always someone who really in love with fairy tale. That is also reflect the condition of post 2009 Indonesia education system as a whole.

If there is such a current then technically the glider can not glide into Indonesian waters,
Looking at the wings, it also lacks a propeller, the amount of passive thrust can not get it past through the stream.
It is either dropped in Indonesian waters, which is worse -security wise- or somehow ended up in there by chance.
I can guarantee there are hundreds of these in SCS and Pacific.

In the most likely case, it was release by commercial looking vessel. Makassar Strait is a pretty busy waterway particularly around the mid to northern side. And as the former inhabitant of its coastal area, I can say this with extreme certainty, that there whether there is quite chaotic with waterspout could appear out of the blue or stormy weather

They are not. Wave is mostly cause by wind or surface related events, while current is the result of varieties of factors namely, terrain, salinity, temperature, and the most important of all is Coriolis effect from earth rotation, but also probably from others factors that we still don't know yet. In the tropical region, sea / ocean current are typically stable a year round. This is why natural undersea landscape (or seascape) such as undersea river, lake, and waterfall exist.

The easiest way to think the difference between wave vs current is something like this. If it's felt like its slapping you, then it is a wave, if it's felt like some invisible force that equally acting upon your body and pushing to a certain general direction, then it is a current.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia needs to strengthen its underwater defence and security in the wake of the discovery of an Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) belonging to a foreign nation deep inside its territorial waters, a top legislator said.



"Any underwater drone and submarine of foreign countries cannot be at our sea without our government's permission,” Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Azis Syamsuddin, said here on Friday.



The Indonesian Foreign Ministry must lodge a protest with the country which owns the drone that was recently found by a fisherman near Selayar Island, South Sulawesi province, he added.



The Foreign Ministry needs to also coordinate with the military (TNI) commander to take the necessary measures in response to the discovery of the foreign UUV, Syamsuddin said.



The TNI commander could dispatch TNI units to bolster their early-detection capability and to prevent the UUV from sending data obtained from the covert operation, he added.



The discovery of an underwater drone, which resembles China's Sea Wing UUV in physical appearance, indeed poses a serious threat to Indonesia's underwater defense and security, he asserted.



The Indonesian government must work to protect and secure the country's territorial waters by modernizing its underwater detection and tracking capability, he added.



According to reports, prior to the discovery of the underwater drone near Selayar Island on December 20, 2020, another underwater drone had been found in the waters off Riau Islands in March, 2019.
