cmiiw, but replacing engines are cheaper than replacing whole armaments and combat management system.
Likely replacing engine more complicates because it will change layout, many calculation etc that effect the ship itself

If japan can change the weaponry with european that we already familiar maybe it is good but if
Why would we wanted to replace the weaponry and system to european if the japanese/usa system can communicate to european system as well

I don't think so, we don't see much problem during the re-engining of the Van Speijk's.

More efficient if sticking to with what Japan is using in their ship, be that US or some missile that Japan might indigenously produce.
This gave me a serious headcache that make me less courious about formil today.

Yes we could purchase all platform that we want, but do they also grant us an access to the armament too?

Anyway, did you guys hear about other procurement asset? Just like SAM, Fighter, subs, helos, and UAV ?
I thought last year we did talking about local made radar and C4ISR, is it done yet ?

I don't think so, we don't see much problem during the re-engining of the Van Speijk's.
I think there were some issues during the replacement. (Could be the reason why it is done in pieces)
It is rather simple to convert from old huge engines to small newer ones. I don't know how they resolve balance issues too, or either the ships are sailing with constant ballast.
The best case gas turbine can be removed and the ship will still be able to reach 20+knots speeds.

It is rather simple to convert from old huge engines to small newer ones. I don't know how they resolve balance issues too, or either the ships are sailing with constant ballast.
The best case gas turbine can be removed and the ship will still be able to reach 20+knots speeds.
I believe there's no need to remove the turbine engine if it will not replace by other engine, since turbine engine are usually use for electrical generator power plant.

In other case diesel engine are use in cruise range, there's no need for a ship to be in full speed all the time, since its Combined Diesel And Gas that mean to achieve such maximum speed both of engine will work togather. This is differ from Combined Diesel or Gas, wich one of the engine could possibly put down while other working.

Changing engine is not a major issue, moreover ship today are made of module, i believe there's joints that removable without causing major chang in boat layout.


Oh hey, the last news that i heard there's a one or two Freedom class that well be decommisioned any soon, do we didn't bats an eye to that boats ?

It's has sleek design tho 😁

Lets called it trimming. "Constant ballast" sound too much like the ship is on the verge of sinking. And our policymakers really hate ill sounding term

Does it even reasonable, if we put something like BRS, LPD, or LST building process to Privte Owned Shipyard, since make a true warship like Frigate, etc. Surely takr different welding and constructing approach, even installing Electronic suites and weaponary ?
(IMO other warship than combatant one, has less quality of metal and welding technique. CMMIW tho)

Permanent ballast, it is called actually.
Some kind of permanent ballast is able to move so i implied it is the dead type.
By the way, i am not really sure if that class of ships has a permanent counter weight to keep the ship upright and on trim.

A ship spends limited time on the slipway or the dock. I presume they are not using a single dock to build and equip the ship. And actually if well planned, time on hull contruction can be limited to some months , and equipping can move onto other quays or docks.
The construction can be parallel even if there is one construction dock /slipway. Other blocks maybe pre-assembled and erected after launching the prior ship.
