You think this G-to-G deal doesn't involve significant bribes!! I'm sure the French were fed up of our crappy delayed process and must've offered few IAF/MoD folks lucrative kickbacks to get the deal done even if its a smaller order.
My point was no one can believe 1 million dollars is an amount that can impact the decision worth 8 billion dollars. Even IAF/MOD officials are sane enough to know what kind of money to ask for such deals
At this point, this news nothing more than an attempt to influence further orders.

The corruption. Curse of our times. Is any defence deal ever clean? Or are they always dirty? Soldiers die for few pounds and the elite rake millions. Looks like this curse eveywhere. Life ....
This not only in our times
Saam Daam Dhand Bhedh is an pretty old concept to achieve a goal

so corruption is always there and Daam is nothing more then a to use the corruption as a way to achieve goals

SaamFirst cajole, try to impress upon the one you wish to undertake the task how wonderful it will make him feel, how important it is, how much it will enhance his reputation etc etc —- all methods to flatter him, to instil in him an elevated sense of importance that he was chosen to undertake the task that would be beyond many of his peers:

If this does not work and he refuses to do the work you desire, then offer him a reward, Daam, a price for his efforts

Daam: Tell him you will pay him for carrying out your task. It is not a bribe. It is payment for service rendered. As money or in kind. If that too does not work and he is unwilling to do your bidding, then ….

Dand: Take this a step further and tell him that he will be punished if he does not do what you want. Punishment is Dand. This is a threat the he better do what you want, else he will suffer the consequences and either be beaten or jailed or punished in any of numerous ways.. If this too does not work, then you employ the last bit, blackmail.

Bhed: Threaten him that if he does not do what you ask him to do then harm will befall someone or something valuable to him. Like in olden days the mafia used to tell defending champions in boxing to deliberately lose to an unknown challenger on whom the Mafia has bet a large sum of money (on extremely high odds say 100 to 1) so that when he wins they will make a phenomenal sum of money. This invariably works because no one wants his loved ones to be tortured or maimed or killed and the mafia used to extend this threat to a wife, or little child. Or destruction of valuable property.

It is just a propaganda by a leftist media of France ahead of PM Modi’s visit to France. This is done and dusted and all of India‘s democratic institutions like Comptroller and Auditor General of India and the Supreme Court. Even doing Basic maths proves that this is just a joke that corruption has taken place. The day Supreme Court of India says its a corrupt deal its a corrupt deal. And Rahul Gandhi should stop whining else because of him BJP-NDA will get 400+ in 2024.

I totally disagree with the report there is no rafale scam
It's another lobbying attempt made by foreign countries when India is going for another batch of rafales
@Nilgiri Can tell better

Read the article carefully, according to them scam has happened related to Rafale models, not aircrafts.

It will be discussed and analysed, no doubt. Lets wait for more...this is really small amount compared to size of deal.

I would not call this a scam proportionate to value of deal at any stretch, these things happen almost inevitably (even between developed countries) you just have to find them.

As for foreign lobbying attempt, I dont know about that, this is coming from French own audit process.

Yah but it involves bribe laundering (at this moment according to French Audit) since no evidence of these models being made and delivered. If there is evidence, then all is well and good.

Anyway they went through everything with fine-toothed comb and they got this means overall the deal was very clean (if it stays this way). Let us see if this small loose end is tied up downroad.

It is being done to sabotage Indian Airforce’s capabilities so that the IAF can’t get more rafales.

Context of Indo-French cooperation since the 1950s (i.e during cold war), the crucial Chirac visit in 1998 (post cold war) and the larger expansion of relations today.

"Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France is on an official visit to India from April 13-15, 2021. During bilateral talks with India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, hosted the visiting Foreign Minister for bilateral talks both Ministers recognised the immense opportunities for greater collaboration in diverse sectors such as trade and investments, defence and security, health, education, research and innovation, energy and climate change. In this episode we will discuss and analyse all aspects of this bilateral relationship."

New Delhi: While the training of Indian Air Force pilots and maintenance crew for the Rafale aircraft in France came to an end Wednesday, the second squadron of the fighter will be operationalised earlier than planned.

The second squadron of the fighter jet, named 101 Squadron, will be based in West Bengal’s Hasimara and will take care of the crucial borders with China in the East. The Hasimara air base is also known as the Wing 16 or the ‘Lethal 16’.

The 101 Squadron, also known as the ‘Falcons of the Chhamb and Akhnoor’, was originally planned to be made operational in June but the IAF is now working to ensure it is done earlier.

Incidentally, four more Rafale aircraft have also taken off from France Wednesday and will reach India Thursday, taking the total number of the French fighters to 18 in the country.

The four fighters, which were flagged off by Air Chief Marshal R.K.S. Bhadauria, are expected to land at Jamnagar in Gujarat before flying on to the Ambala Air Force Station, which is home to the first squadron of the Rafale, Golden Arrows.

While flagging the aircraft, the Air Force chief, who is on a five-day visit to France, thanked the French government and the industry for ensuring timely delivery of the fighter aircraft, and in some cases earlier than contract despite Covid.

“This marks the end of the training of the third batch pilots and all our maintenance crew. The Rafale training centre has provided world class training and because of this training and quality of training, we were able to operationalise the aircraft fully,” he said.

IAF works towards operationalising second base

With the end of training and new fighters on route, all eyes are now on the second airbase in Hasimara, which is under construction and is expected to be completed next month.

While the IAF had last month said the base would be operationalised by the middle of April, the second wave of the Covid pandemic and heavy rains delayed remaining infrastructure activities.

According to sources in the defence establishment, another batch of the Rafale aircraft will be ferried in the next two weeks, which will become part of the Hasimara air base.

They added that the Commanding Officer of the second squadron will be Group Captain Neeraj Jhamb.

As part of the preparations, the Hasimara air base has been undergoing a number of construction activities including lengthening of the runway.

The 101 Squadron last flew the Soviet-era MiG 21 type 96 aircraft.

The squadron got its name ‘Falcons of Chhamb and Akhnoor’ for its operation in the 1965 India-Pakistan War when they stalled a full-fledged attack by Pakistani armoured columns.

This report has been updated to accurately reflect that a total of 18 Rafale fighters have been delivered to India and the 101 Squadron last flew the MiG 21 type 96 aircraft. The error is regretted.
