Looks like the Indian virus has now spread into Pakistan. Thank you paanwalahs.

Pakistan has reported its first confirmed case of a coronavirus variant first identified in India, the federal health ministry said on Friday.
The Indian variant case was detected by the National Institute of Health which conducted whole-genome sequencing of SARS CoV-2 samples collected during the first three weeks of May 2021, health ministry spokesperson Sajid Shah said in a statement.
"The sequencing results confirmed [the] detection of seven cases of B.1.351 (South African variant) and one case of B.1.617.2 (Indian variant)," the statement said, adding that this was the first in-country detection of the Indian strain.
Shah said in accordance with protocols, the contact tracing of all the cases was in progress by the Field Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Division and the Islamabad district health officer.

"Continued detection of global strains highlights the ongoing need for observation of guidelines, usage of masks and [the] need for vaccination," he added.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) had earlier this month classified the B.1.617 strain as a variant of global concern.
The variant, along with the government decision to allow most activity to return to normal including mass religious and political gatherings, was considered to be responsible for a devastating spike in infections and deaths in India last month.
Coronavirus patients died in droves outside hospitals or at home because of a lack of beds, medical oxygen and drugs, prompting a flood of desperate pleas on social media.
Although infections are now falling in major Indian cities after weeks of restrictions, the rural areas of the country are seeing the brunt of a surge that has overwhelmed the health care system and killed at least 160,000 people since the start of March.
Earlier this month, health authorities in Thailand had reported the country's first cases of the Indian Covid-19 variant in a Thai woman and her four-year-old son who had arrived from Pakistan.
Head of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) and federal minister Asad Umar had said at the time that it was "out of the question" that the two Thai nationals had contracted the Indian variant from Pakistan as it was not present in the country.
In late April, the health ministry had said that Pakistan had so far not reported any case of the Indian strain.
To prevent the spread of the B.1.617 variant in Pakistan, the NCOC had last month placed India in the category C list, banning entry of passengers from the country through air and land routes.
Authorities in Pakistan have urged the public to adhere to Covid standard operating procedures and get vaccinated, citing the havoc wreaked by the virus in India.
The B.1.617 variant contains two key mutations to the outer "spike" portion of the virus that attaches to human cells, according to senior Indian virologist Shahid Jameel.
The WHO has said the predominant lineage of B.1.617 was first identified in India last December, although an earlier version was spotted in October 2020.
The variant has already spread to other countries, and many nations have moved to cut or restrict movements from India.

Racist bogey came from chinese when it was discovered initially and than their pet WHO came with COVID-19. google is your friend.

There is remotely nothing racist about this. What began as covid-19 soon began to develop variants and these then began to be referanced with -

  • UK or Kent variant where it first mutated
  • Brazil Variant
  • South African variant
For over one year there was no issues with this naming convention. I certainly did not hear Britain screaming 'racist' when the tag UK variant was used. Ditto Brazil or South African variants. These terms kept being used for protracted period of time and this is well known fact ,all who read this will be aware.

Then the Indian variant emerged. That also as was the format by now joined the terms UK, Brazil, Indian variants of the covid-19.

However things began to change when the disaster unfolded in India which exposed India for what it is. A struggling, over populated, poverty ridden country. As global media attention was drawn to the disaster in India and scenes of River Ganga chocked with dead bodies the term 'Indian variant' began to convey the catastrophic failure of India. This brought massive negative publicity.

Suddenly attempts were made to deflect from this and WHO was pressurised by India amongst others to change the names in attempt to mask the disaster ass 'Indian' by obfuscating it to Delta. This has nothing to do with racism and everything to do with shaping PR.

Corpses are washing up on the banks of the Ganges in India’s most populous state of Uttar Pradesh, as rains swell the river and expose bodies buried in shallow graves during the peak of the country’s latest wave of coronavirus infections.

This was the original article (OP did not post it): https://www.dawn.com/news/1626198

i.e Pakistan reports first confirmed case of Indian coronavirus variant

Forum rule is to stick with the title of the article.

In any case there is parlance out there as to naming of these variants. The forum has allowed discussion/convo on "China flu" "Wuhan flu" etc etc so "Indian variant, Brazil variant" etc is allowed as well by that.

Let us not nitpick on this too much. Take it easy.

I know this have been discussed and is fav with few since it happened in UP where Yogi Adityanath is the CM. Same time, I know that fact checkers are fav with select few. So here goes the truth of these floating bodies. Happen when One have too many snakes in closet.

Old Photos of Dead Bodies Floating in Ganga Passed Off as Recent

We found that the photos, which date back to 2015, were from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao.

Old and unrelated photographs showing corpses floating in the river Ganga have been shared with a false claim that they are recent images from Bihar's Buxar area.
However, we found that both the images date back to 2015 and are from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district.
On Tuesday, 11 May, the Bihar government said that a total of 71 bodies had been fished out of the Ganga river in Buxar, where they had been found floating in a decomposed state. Several bodies were found floating in the same river in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur as well.
CLAIM
Aam Aadmi Party MP Sushil Kumar Gupta shared the photo on his Facebook page with a caption which when translated from Hindi says, "Around 500 bodies have been seen floating in the Ganga in Buxar and Birpur areas of Bihar, many bodies were in COVID-19 kits. These bodies, which have accumulated in an area of close to 30 km, are a living example of the insensitivity of both the UP and Bihar governments and it is a big blot on the system."

Another photo which was shared with a similar claim showed vultures and crows flying over floating dead bodies. The caption of the tweet said, "गंगा मैया में बहती उतर प्रदेश के शव बिहार के बक्सर जिला पहुंचा।"
[Translation: The bodies people from Uttar Pradesh have flown in the river Ganga and reached Buxar district in Bihar.]

Israel said that the Indian variant reduces vaccines anywhere between 20% or 39% this thing requires new vaccines altogether... New vaccines has to be developed to counter this
