"Poland has technology that can help Indonesia to become a maritime axis," said Luhut at the 5th International Maritime Congress held in Szczecin, Poland, June 8-9 yesterday.
As a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Warsaw to Metrotvnews.com, Tuesday 13 June 2017, Luhut also signed a Joint Statement on Maritime Cooperation with the Polish Minister of Maritime Affairs and Land Navigation, Marek Grobarczyk.
"The signing of this cooperation is a good start for the long-term cooperation between Indonesia and Poland," said Grobarczyk.
Cooperation between Indonesia and Poland in the maritime sector will include maritime infrastructure, port and ship construction, maritime connectivity, marine tourism and cooperation in maritime higher education.
Currently, it is known that Poland is looking for partners to cooperate in the construction of the ship industry, and Indonesia is considered to have an interest in this.
In addition to meeting with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Luhut also used the visit to Poland to meet with Polish companies that have the potential to cooperate with Indonesia, including Remontowa for shipbuilding, PGNiG (Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo) for the construction of a gas terminal, PGZ (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa) and Nauta for the development of the defense equipment industry, PT Ursus for agricultural equipment and public transportation and KGHM (Kombinat Górniczo-Hutniczy Miedzi) in the smelter industry.
Luhut emphasized that an Indonesia-Poland Working Group would soon be formed to follow up on the potential for cooperation in various fields between the two countries. The inaugural meeting of the Working Group is expected to take place in August this year.
