US President Donald Trump announced a two-week suspension of airstrikes against Iran.
Trump's post on the social media platform TruthSocial stated: "Based on conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, in which they asked me to restrain destructive force against Iran tonight, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to a COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks. This will be a bilateral ceasefire!"
This is because we have already met and exceeded all military objectives and are very close to reaching a final agreement for a lasting peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East.
We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran and believe it is a viable basis for negotiations. Almost all past disputes between the United States and Iran have been resolved, but a two-week period will allow for finalization and agreement. On behalf of the United States of America, as President and as a representative of the Middle East, I am deeply honored that this long-standing issue is nearing resolution.
Thank you for your attention to this matter! President Donald J. Trump

Trump agreed to a 15-day ceasefire.
Tehran, under pressure from China and Pakistan, agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz and cease fire.
This is good. This is the best that can happen at this time.
A ceasefire will likely give the warring parties time to moderate their demands and, perhaps, lead to a more lasting peace.
