    India HAL Tejas Program

One thing that concerns me about some Mk1A assembly being transferred away from HAL is that of HAL co-operating in TOT to another assembler. Will HAL co-operate fully or drag its feet? The benefits of transferring some assembly away from HAL will be mitigated if HAL slows the process down.

How many Scalp/Storm Shadow/Taurus do France/UK/Germany have now? How many of those can they release for use by Ukraine? How many are produced each year?

    India AMCA Program

Given the Sitara experience of discovering a fatal design flaw late in testing, would it not be risk reduction to check AMCA flies as expected ASAP? Could save the MOD a lot of money in the longer run. There is another thing: actually getting AMCA into the air might increase public interest and...

    Live Conflict Ukraine-Russia War

700 billion euros is a lot of money but it may be a wise investment if it avoids further attacks by Putin on neighbouring countries. I think that cheaper would be to tighten sanctions, increase weapons supply to Ukraine and let Putin continue steering Russia towards long term economic contraction.

You may recall that when Ukraine was invaded and Zelensky was offered help to leave he responded by saying that he did not need a ride, he needed bullets.

    Live Conflict Ukraine-Russia War

Indeed. I have relatives in a couple of countries that were invaded by the Germany in WWII. They stood no chance of repulsing the might of Germany but they did not want to lose their freedom and live under tyranny so they resisted. Ukraine is in a far better position to resist Russia than their...

For Putin believers reading: https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20250214-russian-central-bank-sharply-raises-inflation-f The central bank was expected to raise base rate further at the end of 2024 to contain inflation. Putin is the guy who it is said stopped the bank from raising base...

I don't count people living under military occupation as part of the occupying country's population. If India were to occupy part of Bangladesh, would India's population rise and Bangladesh's population fall? If Ukraine were to occupy part of Russia, would Ukraine's population rise and...

    Live Conflict Ukraine-Russia War

I agree that Ukraine is losing on the ground but you do not address my observation that Russia has taken 3 years to occupy about 10% of Ukraine. Russian inflation at an all time low? I suggest you listen to V Putin. He thinks that inflation is a problem. Would he say that if it was at an all...

    Live Conflict Ukraine-Russia War

With cities 'falling like dominoes', Russia should quickly occupy all of Ukraine. How long to occupy the rest of Ukraine? By the sound of things, just a few weeks or months. A little bit of reality... In 3 years Russia has occupied about 20% of the country and when it started the war it...

    India HAL Tejas Program

I have been wondering about that for some years. Nashik was used to assemble Su-30MKI. It is now used to assemble Mk1A. I believe that 12 extra Su-30MKI are being procured. Where will they be assembled? I doubt that the planned annual number of Tejas has ever been produced so I am pessimistic...

    India HAL Tejas Program

I guess that is an important point. Unfortunately it is also an argument against using other non-western engines (eg Indian) in Indian-designed fighters. I guess that that without investing the equivalent of many billions of dollars in coming years, India will not be able to join the 3...
