That part of statement is a bit stupid but he is talking about something else. Every family who earns less than one full republic gold, as total income will be given aid to match it to that value of that. It's like universal basic income indexed to gold. Using the gold reserves of TCMB for that purpose is not meaningful however.

On my way home from work today, I bought onions for 15 liras at a chain market on the Asian side of Istanbul. ( Salkım tomatoes is 15 liras, potatoes 10 liras. Lemon is 10 liras. Hayvani inflation in capia pepper continues, it was 60 liras, so I didnt buy it.) Outside of Istanbul it is probably in the range of 10-12. I think there is no way it can be 30 liras in the bazaar. I wonder which bazaar it really is. Under normal conditions, even 15 lira onion is a reasonable reason for the government to change. I'm not arguing that, but this label seems to me to be exaggerated.

I saw in chain markets for 26 liras in about a week ago.(in Antalya)

Onion prices usually changes drastically within the year depends on the season. It was usually just below 3 - 4 liras at max and then 1 lira again. So if you saw 15 liras now, it is not exaggerated.(this is old enough news that there might a price drop) And again, i saw the 26 lira price tag myself as well.

Antalya is also hosts lots of Russians and Ukrainians. Prices are already inflated a lot(probably higher than Turkiye's standart). I don't even want to speak about the rents) So there might be that as well.

It's the their last chance now, so they are doing all they can secretly to bring the economy down so Erdogan losses the election.
