This tank won't be ready before 2026.
The South Korean transmission made by SNT Dynamics (EST15K) failed to run more than 7600km. It needs to run 9600km like most German transmissions. It failed South Korean durability tests and the transmission was rejected and went back to development. It will most likely also fail Turkish tests.

SNT Dynamics said they've fixed and improved it and will be ready for 2023-2024 production year. Turkish military is not testing this new version.

Let's say its 2023 and they've finished testing the current transmission, and then another 2 years testing the new SK transmission and then maybe you got something 2025-2026.

Best option is to upgrade Leopard 2A4s until this comes around.
Even 7000km should be acceptable compared to no tank, which is 0 km.

I think using it for now in the first batch and then upgrading it with a newer version or BMC transmission (if it ever comes out) would be a reasonable choice. It is going to be a little more expensive but much better than using old M60s no matter how many times we modernise them.

You should know, that in Germany are two parties related to Türkiye. One will go with Türkiye and deepen ties. The other one will cut ties with Türkiye. In other words, Otokar is/ or could be a partner of Germany. BMC not.

thats just childish logic.. the country that did not want to sell you 1000 tanks will not provide engines..

thats why:
you can hope on green party to get your engines... I wouldnt even use one brain cell to think about this

spd yes they could sell but there is one thing that says never ever! and that is that spd is bound to green party and this means forget it


there is no way germany will allow you to use their engines against their kurdish project and as an alternative to leo 2 ... they wont harm their own products! I dont get how people can even think another firm could get the engines and transmission from germany..

it is because of you and your planned product


the biggest mistake I was complaining years before is when altay was planned turkey should also begin their engine project! and this also means reverse Engineering the leo engine.. WTF do politicians think? if someone denies a big amount of tanks why shouldnt they deny engines.. ?
3 projects should have been started from the eraly beginning!
engine reverse engineering, a new one like the bmc now, one with help of others

the third would fail because no one is willing to create a competitor.. left only two and these projects could have been done untill today

bmc is a fail and it should have been otocar or fnss because of their experience.. but this is not the delay fault of our tank its clear embargo!

The German transmissions also never reached anywhere near 9600km. In fact, that double standard (accepting RENK transmission which didn't achieve said standard whereas applying stricter standards to S&T) was one of S&T's biggest complaint.

Even 7000km should be acceptable compared to no tank, which is 0 km.
On the other hand, problems regarding S&T EST15K cannot be simplified to just "failing to reach 9600km/only reached 7000km".

Well that's surprising. Do you have a source for the last sentence? The newer version of the S&T transmission's got most of its critical components replaced. Seems illogical to test the older version at this point. From what is publicly known, transmission under review for the 4th batch of K2 is this newer version of EST15K. If Türkiye chooses the older version of EST15K, it will be the only user.

There is Active embargo by Germany on any spare parts for Leopards

How you will upgrade it?
Give us example with what ?
Keep in mind that any upgrade increasing tank weight with 1 ton and more mean -> upgrade of engine and transmission is greatly need it

New version is for Korea only for now

Older version is available for export

Maybe we will use Altay with Russian doctrine, just replace it when it breaks down. And probably it will break down lot more than MTU+Renk

i was wondering how an engine and transmission that was developed for 55 nton K2 can work 100 percent with 65 ton altay? are you guys sure that, there is no compromise until the bmc engine and transmission is available?

We are not, probably they will use to produce some for replace some tanks at at least have a modern tank.

We will probably equip a different transmission when one breaks down, which will be more frequent than Renk one

Engine, wehether it be for 55 ton or 65 ton vehicle doesnt really matter. The Doosan engine develops 1500HP power output with a torque value close to the MTU engine. That amount of power with 4600Nm of torque is enough to drive Altay. German MTU engine isn’t significantly different. It is the transmission that is important here. As and when full power is needed suddenly the transmission has to be sturdy enough to withstand the loads it will be subjected to. To that end the relevant transmission has been under test during the last few months. They must be satisfied enough with the performance of the transmission to go ahead with the integration of the power pack in to Altay.
