Actually China seems to need any engine tech. They were very eager to buy Motor Sich, in spite of the dated tech they used.
There isn’t much known about their WS10 that powers the J20. But initial batches needed to go through engine changes after only 500hours’ flight. Later they reported that they went above 1000hours before engine change. But that is still far short of 8-9000 hours of flight achieved by western engines‘ performance of similar thrust level. (j10 manages 19000lbf dry and 30000lbf with A/B supposedly using single crystals at turbine section)
If they have improved further in the last few years, that is yet to come through the grapevine.

There is often a large amount of (qualitative and quantitative) man hours invested into all kind of things in the "lower tiers" of RnD that are not so hot topic to talk about like apex stuff people sometimes assume is the only frontier or hindrance.

The pyramid apex and total height is not the only governing thing though for RnD, it is also its base and middle...often relooking at things that you think were settled and proven sometimes.

He is just praying to god that the engineers should get to their goals without problems. I dont see there a problem. Muslim country, muslim people.

Sometimes I ask myself why are we mixing religion with stuff designed to kill people. It gives a bad image in my opinion. Russia is also doing the same thing.
