An agreement is made with TUSAŞ to convert 10 Atak-2 helicopters to firefighting helicopters that can carry 4 tons of water.

Better use our coming utility helicopter.

Why wait for it, it has a bigger internal volume but you only need 4m³ of volume for water which the T929 design can support comfortably. I would suggest they make them unmanned for very high turnaround productivity and 24/7 day and night operation. Imagine automated drone helicopters do the job several times better than humans can and in swarm mode, they can put out fires in just a few of hours. No humans get harmed in the process.

I think this is still T925. That would make OGM the launch customer of T925.

Good news if true.

We really need 10t utility helicopter that we can customize as we like much more than ATAK 2.

I also like to believe that this means we are finally taking the initiative to focusing on national projects instead of waiting to see if we can buy foreign equipment(in this case not waiting for congress decision for additional batches of T70)
I couldn't agree more. We need 10t utility helo much more than Atak 2. Nice to have Atak2 dont get me wrong, but we have tens of ATAKs, hundreds of UCAVs, so why this urgency? Besides we have ready and indigenous engine in TS1400, three of them should be sufficient such a vehicle. All of our forces but especially the navy have pressing needs for a proper helo, and also we all sick of the congress of Americans, why give them any excuses? Just focus on utility Helo and get it over with.

The top of the nose looks similar. A cutaway section is added to the bottom for FLIR.

"At this point, these two forces, these two experiences combined. We will do our first work from a ready-made helicopter. First there will be test flights, and then we will start from scratch and develop our own platforms into several families."

"Of course, one wonders when this work will become more concrete. It's a little behind due to the priority we give to other platforms, but we will see the drone fly in a few months.” statements were included.

It is emphasized that the 'unmanned attack helicopter' Mehmet Demiroğlu mentioned may be the T629. It is thought that the unmanned and electric T629 Attack Helicopter will be especially useful for the Turkish Naval Forces Command.

Ready made helicopter sounds like they will fly an unmanned T129 first

I wonder if an unmanned T629 would be able to carry more armament, or, operate for a longer time because cockpit and all of its instruments and whatnot would be taken out. Can't wait to see what'll come out of this project.

This is completely nonesensical.

I imagine whoever wrote that news misunderstood something.

They will probably only use the propulsion system and build a new skeleton and the water handling system around it.

Nobody has ever adapted an extremely expensive and complex attack helicopter into a firefighting one.
And there's many good reasons why.
(and no, the old AH-1 Cobra used by the US Forest Service do not count as they were used only for observation)

This even without considering the attack helicopter in question is barely a protoype which is far, far away from completing its development.

And there's many good reasons why.
(and no, the old AH-1 Cobra used by the US Forest Service do not count as they were used only for observation)

This even without considering the attack helicopter in question is barely a protoype which is far, far away from completing its development.


They will use the chasis of the chopper as basics. They will not turn the orginal design to a firefighter. That will be impossible.


I have listened, in short they are working on it.

Reusing the exact main components (main gearbox, main rotor, tail rotor) is possible and has been done many times in history, but the end result will be a different helicopter type that will require its own development and certification.

There will be a 10 ton utility helicopter based on atak 2 powertrain, what they mean by a firefighting helicopter based on atak 2 is probably the same utility helicopter specialised for firefighting. It was already planned actually, they just say that in a different way.
