in limited numbers (~4000) not adopting the rifle for general service unfortunately
whether this goes through , remains to be seen (sanctions ).

Well there's the Galil, or the Swiss SIG 550 series. The Galil is most adopted by countries wanting to upgrade their rifles but retaining the 7.62x39. while the Swiss one are bit expensive.

Or even better, BOF should r&d their own standard assault rifle to suit their needs. Like our Pindad SS-2

we don't have relation with err...
plus the BA seems to be on a tight budget (speculation)

that sounds like a good idea. BD makes the modernised type 81 derivative the BD-08 (see below)

interestingly the Norinco has made a modernised variant of the type 81 with mounts/rails. Saves time and money i guess.

Is it true that Bangladesh assemble the FN-16 domestically?

Imaging if 'Walton defense system' and 'Walton aerospace system' can be established by joint venture with Aselsan and Roketsan!

maybe just 400 or 500 million investment for the beginning.

only thing truly lacking here is the political will.

Walton is a private company. Political will has nothing to do with this.
Political will has lot to do with this!

If there is no national road map and supportive mechanism from government ( like Turkiye has ) for private companies to participate in national defence industry, it is very unlikely that any private company completely on its own will be able to do anything significant.
specially in our context where we don't have any meaningful defence industry yet.

Both Aselsan and Roketsan started off as state owned companies. They are now publicly traded companies but I think both are still majority state owned.

STM is owned by state (SSB affiliated).

Aselsan is publicly traded, Roketsan is not.

@Flextape do you know anything about amry's latest ATGM tender? Did they selected anything yet ?

Is there any progress on that front?

There were rumors that BOF will open a production line for ATGM locally with TOT from aboard.

I'm not really sure on that

BOF may start making ATGW missiles soon but there is no solid confirmation
