Professor Roberto Cingolani, CEO of the Italian aerospace, defense, and security company Leonardo S.p.A, along with his accompanying delegation, visited the Özdemir Bayraktar National Technology Center.

In Piaggio's stalled UCAV project, Leonardo was the project partner and the most important system supplier. I think this should not be an ordinary visit, but a meeting to discuss possible cooperation. If Leonardo and Baykar came together, they could meet the armed and special purpose UAV needs of the entire EU.

I like that they all wear "bayraktar tb3" suit in last photo :). Something must be brewing

Jokes aside, Baykar&Leonardo cooperation would be an excellent thing.

TB-3 is almost a tailor-made solution for Trieste and Cavour. While some Europeans tend to make this pride issue, the Italians are now taking a more pragmatic stance and it seems they are sincere about strengthening defense cooperation, which will inevitably produce positive results in favor of Italy.

In general, I believe that rapprochement with Spain and Italy and the perceptions that are drawn around common interests are important, because I think that politically this will contribute greatly to peace in the region. Spain, Italy and Turkiye are the 3 major powers of the Mediterranean, historically and culturally. Together, these three countries can maintain regional security without the need for a US or any other external presence.

It is also a counterweight in the Mediterranean to France, Greece/Cyprus and Egypt. Neither Spain nor Italy want or tolerate France having or gaining too much power in the Mediterranean through its proxies such as Greece/Cyprus & Egypt. That is why they support Turkey pragmatically, e.g. through armaments cooperation or other Support Projects such as Navantia & Co and Leonardo with Italy in the near future.

At the same time, Turkey is creating ties both in regular bilateral trade between the countries and their defense industries. This leaves France and Greece almost isolated and alone in EU politics. As both demand a much tougher stance on Turkey but are not supported by the majority of the EU.
Several EU countries share France's views on certain issues against Turkey, but the economic and migration technical factor prevents them from wanting to isolate Turkey.
The damage would be much higher for the countries concerned than they would help, because they now also know that Turkey is increasingly diversifying its trade outside the EU.
