In no history is that be happened.
In history , there are a lot anti-ship missiles that they didn't prove themselves. .What's the difference between aircraft and warship? Seeker of SAM can't detect bigger and slower targets.
C'mon, this argument is nonsense.

SAMs can be used against surface targets.
If the missiles were already configured for that purpose - like SM6 - then no problem. But in general they may need reconfiguration (like in Ukraine where S-200 missiles have been reconfigured and re purposed to hit ground targets) .

Some SAMs may have proximity detonation to destroy air targets. These may prove to be ineffective against armour.

Also SAMs reconfigured for ground or surface attack may have difficulty in homing in to target effectively. Even missing targets completely due to not recognising it as targets may be too small and varied in sizes.
Another point that may be of importance is the fact that due to much denser air the missile has to fly through, the overall range capability could be greatly compromised.

However if properly configured and supported by the correctly designed radar systems, like NASAMS, there is nothing stopping the use of SAMs against ground and surface targets.

Active radar seekers could engages radar antennas which emits signals, there is no need to use of heavy warheads in order to make blind frigates.

On the other hand modern Data-Link capabilities of new missiles could increase the accuracy.
Ukrainian s-200s have primitive technology.

Israel defense industry likes creating different variations of different platforms. I am sure Israel Navy tested Barak missiles for anti-ship possibilities. They know their shits.

Using supersonic SAMs as anti-ship is totally lethal.

“Considering the situation of the GKR-Israeli military relations, it is certain that this very powerful air defense system and radar will be one of the most important components of Israel's intelligence network in the Eastern Mediterranean. At the same time, Barak MX is a serious threat to Turkish air and land elements in Cyprus and even the Eastern Mediterranean.

This was My main concern. A protective shield for their naval activities.

And now I believe they might use the system against surface targets with various effectiveness.

The idea that South Cyprus would acquire more different kinds of weapon systems from Israel isn’t a far fetched assumption.

I also wonder, who will operate these system? The Greek Cypriots or the Israeli personnel?

Cypriots would operate it but maintenance would be Israeli.
I doubt the Greeks have enough money to use them as a surface to surface weapon with that small fragmentation warhead and a big ass price tag

That was always considered worst case scenario and only reserved when the shit hits the fan moment.
Anyways, it won’t stop there, more will follow.

even though such a radar will provide early warning capabilities

-ı dont think radar /system will be active 7/24/365

-never ignore the geographical map and what kind of advantages or disadvantages it poses

-Isreal herself alreday has decent systems to provide early warning in Eastern Med.

Apart from anti-ship capabilities, still BARAK MX is modern air defense system.

Long in short Greeks have achieved new level over Mediterranean sea where our fighters have happened to be under real threat.

Really Barak MX

Edit:

As BARAK MX complex Platform of different missiles and radars, still there is no information about specifications. Might be more compact radar with short range missiles? Are we sure they have got Barak ER with long range radar?

sarcasm mod on: I agree with my friends we are totally domed this is the first time we have faced a long range air defence system in the region and we are utterly powerless against it. Barrak MX is the magical silver bullet and Barrak MX can see all our Air activities. Not just our air force but our navy is under a great threat.............lets surrender :devilish:

Why put such a potent and expensive air defence system in close proximity of your enemy’s effective weapon range?
S400 can still do its job from Mersin or Hatay.

What we need to position in Cyprus are, stealthy Kargi loitering munition type bombs and FPVs that can take out those missile sites.

And another point which has to be stated here is Greek side already has Exocet missiles therefore reconfiguring Barak MX to anti ship role is higly unlikly and I am saying highly unlikly for the sake of politness

We only need one or two of these,

Even the Panther is enough.
I dont understand why people are making it look like a doomsday scenario.

It's a distributed mobile system that can be relocated in a matter of tens of minutes. It's an increased risk to all of our air assets. It's not a "doomsday" scenario, it's here today and will make all our business there whether in peace or in war much harder. It increases the risk of a flashpoint event and clearly shows our losing hand in the island.

As far as I know we don't have a domestic Power Pack to produce Firtina2, or am I wrong ? And please no imaginary Power Pack, "we will have" is making me queasy as it is.
