WASHINGTON, Nov 3 (Reuters) - China is unlikely to try to militarily seize Taiwan in the next couple of years, even as its military develops capabilities that would enable forcibly retaking the self-ruled island, the top U.S. general said on Wednesday.

"Based on my analysis of China, I don't think that it is likely in the near future -- being defined as, you know, six, 12, maybe 24 months, that kind of window," General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the Aspen Security Forum, when asked if China was preparing to make a move on Taiwan in the near future.

"Having said that, though, the Chinese are clearly and unambiguously building the capability to provide those options to the national leadership if they so choose at some point in the future. But near future? Probably not. But anything can happen."

This common sense is known by everyone in China, the only ones who don't know, or pretend to not know are US politicians, they pull out all the stops trying to play up this issue, but they will end up gaining nothing.

As long as Taiwan sticks to the republic of China, everything is fine. China reiterated this principles all the time.

Not with the current sealift capabilities of the PLAN.
China still has the world largest navy, which means most naval ships, let alone of countless fishing and civil ships and boats, besides, what sealift capability does it need for a narrow Taiwan strait? a crude raft can easily get you across it.
If needs be, China can easily block this small island with sea mines.

The kind of sea lift capability that could sustain a prolonged combat in Taiwan.

That means not only the transport of men, but materials and heavy vehicles across the Taiwan strait.

Believe me you wouldn't want to cross the Taiwan strait using a crude craft. The weather and sea state would sink most of those crude craft you mentioned.

Check out the latest Taiwan street interview : " What would you do if mainland China invaded Taiwan tomorrow? And if Taiwan anounced a draft, would you join the army or encourage your loved ones to join the arm to fight?"

Not even one person being interviewed wants to anwser to the draft, the reason is so simple, Taiwan is definitely no match for the mainland, and there 's nothing can be done if that happened , so why bother, just go on with our lives like nothing happened.

China is the world biggest ship builder, if China doesn't have the capability for sea transportation of personels and supplies, I guess no countries do.

What made you believe that China doesn't have this capability?

China on paper had at least 2 million men compared to Taiwan's 200.000+.

But then between Taiwan and China there's a physical barrier, the Taiwan strait, and that prevents the PLA to use their numbers to overwhelm Taiwan. And to win in Taiwan the PLA MUST occupy the island, that means transport of men are crucial.

Add all Type 075,071,072 transport capability and you don't pass 20.000 troops carried.

We haven't even talk the possibility of those transports getting sunk by Taiwan coastal missile system. Or how the PLA could ferry enough equipment and munitions to sustain combat once the PLA did make landfall in Taiwan.

Lose just 1/3rd or 1/4th of the invasion fleet. Say goodbye to Taiwan.

Then how China took over Hainan island from KMT? You man to man comparison is ridiculous, do you know how many troops KMT had in the beginning of the Chinese civil war? Based on your theory, US doesn't have the capability to attack any countries too.

Tell me why all Taiwanese being interviewed said Taiwan is no match for Mainland China and doesn't stand a chance if a war really broke out. Do you know Taiwan better than Taiwanese themselves?
