More recently, the Thai ambassador to India lauded India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by announces the purchase of 600 Tata motors military trucks.

Chutintorn Sam Gongsakdi tweeted saying, 'Atmanirbhar Bharat: The Royal Thai Army is in the process of completing its purchase of over 600 TATA LPTA military trucks...They are rugged & easy to maintain. Fit for purpose. Fit for service of the nation'.

According to Motoroids report, Tata Motors has been a prime defence supplier to the Armed and Paramilitary Forces of the country for a long time now. The Group's history with the Defence sector goes way back to the 1940s.

Apart from being a leading supplier of mobility solutions to the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and various Paramilitary forces, the company also exports its range of specialized Defence vehicles to SAARC, ASEAN, African nations and the UN peacekeeping forces in conflict zones in Africa.

Chutintorn Sam Gongsakdi, in his tweet about the military purchase, ended up making an error of posting the Flag of Niger instead of India to indicate the deal.

After people online pointed out that he used the wrong flag, Sam Gongsakdi, immediately posted an apology saying 'Sorry. It is so small, I thought the detail was lacking. I actually checked before choosing'.

Tata Motors, India's largest vehicle manufacturer by revenue, is readying a range of sophisticated combat, tactical, logistical and armoured vehicles including high-end missile launchers for the Indian defence forces.

V S Noronha - vice-president (defence and government business), Tata Motors - told Business Standard earlier this year, "Tata Motors has been very proactive in the defence segment, so it is not that we wait for the order. We knew that somewhere down the line, there would be a better focus on indiginisation and keeping that in mind, we went ahead and developed the (LPTA 5252) 12X12. They are the military versions of the Prima truck."

Tata Motors's product line-up includes bullet-proof troop carriers, armoured buses, mine protected vehicles, mobile hospital, water bowser and even unmanned aerial vehicle launchers, among other things.

The 35th edition of India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) between the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy will be conducted between December 17 and 18.

Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kulish, an indigenously built missile corvette along with P8I Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) will undertake coordinated patrol with Indonesian Naval Ship KRI Cut Nyak Dien, a Kapitan Pattimura (Parchim I) class corvette and an MPA of the Indonesian Navy.

As part of Government of India's vision of 'Sagar' (Security And Growth for All in the Region), the Indian Navy has been proactively engaging with countries in the Indian Ocean Region for coordinated patrols, cooperation in EEZ surveillance, passage exercises and bilateral/multilateral exercises, towards enhancing regional maritime security.

India and Indonesia have especially enjoyed a close and friendly relationship covering a wide spectrum of activities and interactions, which have strengthened over the years.

To reinforce maritime links, the two navies have been carrying out CORPAT along their International Maritime Boundary Line since 2002, with the aim of ensuring safety and security of shipping and international trade in the region.

CORPATs build up understanding and interoperability between navies and facilitate institution of measures to prevent and suppress Illegal Unreported Unregulated (IUU) fishing, drug trafficking, maritime terrorism, armed robbery and piracy.

The 35th IND-INDO CORPAT will contribute towards the Indian Navy's efforts to consolidate inter-operability and forge strong bonds of friendship across the Indo Pacific.

Indian and Vietnamese Navy will undertake PASSEX or Passage Exercise in the South China Sea. Indian Navy Ship INS Kiltan which reached Nha Rong Port, Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday will take part in the exercises which will take place on 26 and 27 December. The Indian Ship reached the country with 10 tons of humanitarian assistance under mission Sagar 3.

The Indian Navy in a release said," current visit seeks to enhance maritime cooperation between the two Navies and will further bolster the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries and contribute to security and stability in the region."

India and Vietnam have increased high-level engagement including defence engagement. New Delhi on Monday at the India-Vietnam virtual summit handed over first of the 12 High-Speed Guard Boat to the country. The boats have been handed over under $100 million Defence Line of Credit extended by New Delhi to Hanoi. India is also helping in training and capacity building programmes across the three services and coast guards for the country.



The Passex exercises are a first since the Galwan incident earlier this year which saw aggressive action by Chinese forces at the Line of actual control leading to the death of 20 Indian soldiers.

China has also been violative of Vietnam's sovereignty in the South China sea trying to claim large swathes of the sea-based on its so-called "nine-dash line". The Nine-Dash line concept of China, under which it claims 90 per cent of the sea, has been dismissed by an arbitral award by UNCLOS or United Nations Convention for the Law of the Sea.

Does it matter!!

China isn't stopping their exercises nor selling weapons to our adversaries. They're actively supporting separatist groups, fueling anti-govt activities, strangling us with their string of pearls policy and they're submarines are lurking very close to our territorial waters. They plan to encroach all along the border and I feel it'll only escalate moving forward

We should give em a taste of their own medicine. If possible, form a new alliance which includes defence pacts, economic & trade collaboration with all their adversaries in SCS and beyond, actively sell em our missiles, rotary winged and naval platforms which we're really good at.

It just shows them that India isn't going to back down. They have bitten off more than they can chew to enforce the idea that they are the predominant power in Asia. Which they aren't, by a long shot.

China basically demands respect rather than commanding it. They are also a bit insecure and refer to their previous century as "Century of Humiliation".

Such exercises tend to unnerve them and bring back memories of that humiliation. So that's good.

I believe China should stop thinking India as their enemy,The communist party surely doesn't want any competitor in Asia,hence making India as their enemy,the Indians never hated china,its actually the reverse,chinese politicians always took India-China relationship as a mere political tool for gaining popularity.
The Chinese govt. Always took provocative decisions be it militarily,diplomatically and economically,thus making dangerous conflict between the two nations.

The Chinese govt. Always took provocative decisions be it militarily,diplomatically and economically,thus making dangerous conflict between the two nations.
As stated, you interact with Chinese abroad and they have a serious inferiority complex. They see Indians engaging in debates, rising to the top of corporate firms, starting businesses and speaking fluent English. The Chinese students are excellent in the fields of engineering but lack soft skills. They see Indians outdoing them and this is the crux of their entire insecurity.

Not really, Chinese would have long ago baked this in. They for some time now are aware of India's expanding relationships with sensitive hot spots for them like Vietnam.

They also now getting an idea of Indian resolve on certain things, after doing these "tests" from about 2016 onwards.

New Delhi: India and Indonesia will soon hold a joint drill between their air forces as they seek to strengthen bilateral military ties amid the ongoing border tensions between New Delhi and Beijing.

“In terms of military cooperation, we have strengthened from coordinated patrol in the Andaman Sea, that has been going on at least for the past 17 years. We have army-to-army exercises, navy-to-navy, and soon we will start air force to air force” said Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro, outgoing Ambassador of Indonesia to India, in his address to the Ananta Aspen Centre Monday.

This is expected to send a strong signal to China at a time when New Delhi and Beijing are engaged in a bitter border standoff at the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh.

The envoy said there has been considerable strengthening of ties between both the countries at the level of governments in the last six years and the relationship got elevated to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.

“India and Indonesia now have a shared vision of maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific,” the ambassador said.

On the issue of Quad countries — India, US, Japan and Australia — holding joint naval exercise, the envoy said, “I think countries would establish their layers of diplomacy based on how they look at their environment and each country’s perspective of the environment would be different.”

He also batted for the ongoing connectivity project between Aceh and Andaman, where joint patrolling has been going on, and said it needs strengthening.

“We would like to see cooperation in this and we hope it will materialise soon,” he added.

Suryodipuro also said Indonesia would like to enhance the trilateral cooperation between India, Australia and his country. He said soon the foreign ministers of these countries will meet to discuss this trilateral cooperation.

More needs to be done on trade ties

Suryodipuro said more needs to be done in order to boost trade and economic ties between both the countries.

He said before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic the two-way trade between both countries reached $20 billion, but out of this about $10 billion consists of palm oil and coal exports from Indonesia to India, while the remaining $10 billion is what is traded on both sides.

India has been also seeking access to Indonesian markets for its pharmaceutical produce, whereas Indonesia wanted larger investments in this sector.

“The (Indonesian) pharma companies produce enough for the Indonesia market, at the same time also seeks the competition to be limited to protect the market,” the envoy said.

However, he added, the situation has changed with the pandemic setting in. Now more and more Indian pharmaceutical firms are investing in Indonesia, he said.

Indonesia has also begun talking with Bharat Biotech to procure the Covid-19 vaccine from India.

Direct connectivity needed

Suryodipuro further said, “We are punching far below our weight in terms of the size of our countries… Indonesia is India’s largest neighbour after China. We need to build closer business-to-business relationships, universities-to-universities, think-thanks to think-tanks, people-to-people, we need to build this by setting up direct connectivity.”

He said this can be achieved not only by air-to-air connectivity, but by maritime connectivity.

“When it comes to maritime connectivity, we can have smaller ships. We are not talking about huge container vessels. But it can be direct between the coasts of India — Chennai or Kolkata — with the ports in Sumatra, Java, it does not have to be super cargo ships,” he stressed.

Suryodipuro said Indonesia would like to spearhead this effort between Aceh and Andaman.

“Now the situation in the region calls for greater Indian and Indonesian partnership, collaboration and will provide the basis for the region’s stability and prosperity, after all we are the largest and second-largest countries of the Indo-Pacific. So we’ll set the tone for that as well,” he added.

Extremely doubtful. The 漢族 folk have a racial superiority mentality that would prevent them from getting the message right. However, that actually also good for both India & Indonesia, for there is a value in the ignorance of one adversary.

Suryodipuro clearly miss the mark. The most important aspect to improving trade is actually people-to-people first. And that can be done by easing any immigration & custom barrier at both side and reciprocal visa free regime. Also lets not forget that fast ferry is a very viable option.

“When it comes to maritime connectivity, we can have smaller ships. We are not talking about huge container vessels. But it can be direct between the coasts of India — Chennai or Kolkata — with the ports in Sumatra, Java, it does not have to be super cargo ships,” he stressed.

Suryodipuro said Indonesia would like to spearhead this effort between Aceh and Andaman.
Chennai / Kolkata or Andaman to Medan is the most viable option. The socio-political condition of Aceh is for all-purpose & intent is not commercially conducive. And nothing can be done about it, its only get worse there by the day.

A Malaysian Air Force team is expected to visit India soon to assess the suitability of the light combat aircraft (LCA), a locally developed system that has recently been ordered in large numbers by the Indian Air Force (IAF), as the force looks to acquire aline of new fighter jets. The Malaysian team is likely to visit Bengaluru within two months, depending on travel restrictions, and will be given a full tour of the LCA production facilities, test infrastructure as well as a demonstration of its combat potential, said people aware of the matter.

They said the Indian LCA has emerged as a top contender for the Malaysian Air Force since it is being offered at cheaper rates than the Swedish Saab Gripen and is more modern and capable than the China-Pakistan origin JF 17. India is offering the LCA Mk1A version, with a modern AESA radar, new avionics and the capability to integrate a variety of weapons, for the potential export order and is confident that the aircraft will be an ideal fit for the Malaysian requirement. The initial requirement is for 12 jets, with options for 24 more in the future, said the people.


Besides full support in training both ground and air personnel, India has offered to create a full maintenance, repair and overhaul facility for the LCA fleet in Malaysia to ensure a high rate of availability. India has been in talks with Malaysia on the potential order for more than three years now. In 2019, India had dispatched two of its LCA fighters for the LIMA show at Langkawi as part of its efforts to pitch the jets for the export order. India and Malaysia have also been engaging in multi-level joint exercises and training programmes as part of plans to upgrade defence cooperation.

The Indian aircraft is priced at just over $42 million per unit, a price made possible given economies of scale after the IAF placed an order for 83 fighter jets. This will make it the most lucrative aircraft on offer to Malaysia in the global scenario, said the people. Besides the Gripen and the JF 17, the South Korean T 50 is also a contender for the contract. Though Pakistan has also been pitching hard for its JF 17 fighter, its Chinese origins are likely to be an important consideration given that Malaysia has ongoing sea boundary disputes with Beijing.

The Ministry of National Defense Monday launched one high-speed patrol boat built with India technical and financial assistance and held the keel-laying ceremony for another.

Using a $100-million line of credit extended to Vietnam in October 2014 by India, five vessels are being built at the Larsen & Toubro shipyard in Chennai, India, and seven at the Hong Ha Shipyard in Hai Phong under the company’s supervision.

More recently, the Thai ambassador to India lauded India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by announces the purchase of 600 Tata motors military trucks.

Chutintorn Sam Gongsakdi tweeted saying, 'Atmanirbhar Bharat: The Royal Thai Army is in the process of completing its purchase of over 600 TATA LPTA military trucks...They are rugged & easy to maintain. Fit for purpose. Fit for service of the nation'.

According to Motoroids report, Tata Motors has been a prime defence supplier to the Armed and Paramilitary Forces of the country for a long time now. The Group's history with the Defence sector goes way back to the 1940s.

Apart from being a leading supplier of mobility solutions to the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and various Paramilitary forces, the company also exports its range of specialized Defence vehicles to SAARC, ASEAN, African nations and the UN peacekeeping forces in conflict zones in Africa.

Chutintorn Sam Gongsakdi, in his tweet about the military purchase, ended up making an error of posting the Flag of Niger instead of India to indicate the deal.

After people online pointed out that he used the wrong flag, Sam Gongsakdi, immediately posted an apology saying 'Sorry. It is so small, I thought the detail was lacking. I actually checked before choosing'.

Tata Motors, India's largest vehicle manufacturer by revenue, is readying a range of sophisticated combat, tactical, logistical and armoured vehicles including high-end missile launchers for the Indian defence forces.

V S Noronha - vice-president (defence and government business), Tata Motors - told Business Standard earlier this year, "Tata Motors has been very proactive in the defence segment, so it is not that we wait for the order. We knew that somewhere down the line, there would be a better focus on indiginisation and keeping that in mind, we went ahead and developed the (LPTA 5252) 12X12. They are the military versions of the Prima truck."

Tata Motors's product line-up includes bullet-proof troop carriers, armoured buses, mine protected vehicles, mobile hospital, water bowser and even unmanned aerial vehicle launchers, among other things.
