The 2025 summary video shared by the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) showcased the enormous scale of Turkey's achievements in defense technologies. From the Blue Homeland to space, from unmanned systems to ballistic missiles, 2025, marked by new achievements every month, is considered a "golden year" for the Turkish defense ecosystem. Here is a month-by-month report card for the Turkish defense industry in 2025.

First Quarter of 2025: Firsts at Sea and in the Air​

In the first months of the year, the integration of ammunition into naval platforms and unmanned aerial vehicles attracted particular attention.

• January: MİLGEM-6 İZMİR and MİLGEM -7 İZMİT were launched, while the ANKA III unmanned combat aircraft struck a target at an altitude of 20,000 feet with TOLUN ammunition. Bayraktar TB2, meanwhile, achieved a world first by registering its "autonomous spin-off recovery" capability.
• February: The third test launch of the TAYFUN ballistic missile was successfully completed. GÖKSUR conducted its first launch in a maritime environment, while TÜRKSAT 6A carried out its first test broadcast from its final orbit.
• March: Kara ATMACA reached record range, while AKINCI TİHA made its first flight with the domestically produced MURAD AESA radar.

Second Quarter: TB3 and TCG ANADOLU Cooperation​

Between April and June, the Turkish defense industry focused on doctrine-shifting operational capabilities.

• April: Bayraktar TB3 The made history in aviation by performing a fully autonomous landing and takeoff from the TCG ANADOLU ship. The HÜRJET, meanwhile, reinforced its supersonic capabilities by reaching a speed of 1.2 Mach.
• May: The ATMACA missile conducted its first live firing after being put into inventory. The first export of the KARGU took place, while the KARGU FPV was tested with an armor-piercing warhead.
• June: national combat aircraft the KAAN A sales agreement was signed with Indonesia for . At sea, the REİS-class MURATREİS submarine was launched.

Third Quarter: Export Records and Integration Successes​

• July: IDEF 2025 broke a record with a contract volume of $9 billion. The Gendarmerie General Command received its first AKINCI system.
• August: HİSAR-D RF missile launch was conducted via the National Vertical Launch System (MİDLAS). Integration of the ÇAKIR missile into the MARLİN SİDA was completed.
• September: MİLGEM-8 (TCG İÇEL) was launched. SANCAR SİDA entered the inventory, while Turkish companies continued their rise in the “Defense News Top 100” list.

Year's Finale: Mass Production and Space Vision​

The last quarter of 2025 became a period in which tangible results were achieved from the anticipated major projects.

• October: of the ALTAY Main Battle Tank Serial production deliveries officially began. HÜRJET completed its 300th test flight, while the production process accelerated with the laying of the keel for the first block in the National Assault Boat project.
• November: SİPER-1 achieved a direct hit in autonomous battery firing. KIZILELMA unmanned combat aircraft successfully passed radar and ammunition tests by performing formation flight with F-16s.
• December: KIZILELMA, equipped with the MURAD AESA radar and GÖKDOĞAN missile, destroyed its first aerial target. In space, ASELSAN's LUNA-1 and FGN-TUG-S01 vehicles began their missions. A historic milestone was reached in the MİLDEN (National Submarine) project with the commencement of construction of the first test block.

The data shared by SSB proves that the Turkish defense industry will become a global player by 2025, not only in terms of platforms but also in space and autonomous software technologies.

Another significant agreement between Turkey and Brazil in the field of defense industry has been approved by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. The defense industry cooperation agreement aims to meet Brazil's defense industry product needs through the Turkish defense industry and to develop defense industry cooperation for the benefit of both countries.

The agreement regulates matters related to joint production and technology transfer, mutual procurement of defense industry products, the sale of jointly produced products to third countries, and the provision of market opportunities for Turkish defense industry products. Last year, Türkiye also made its first export of jet engines to Brazil.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozay, while briefing members of parliament on the agreement with Brazil, reminded them that Brazil is the country that spends the most on the defense industry in the Latin America and Caribbean region, with a budget of $25 billion. Bozay stated, “Our relations with Brazil in the defense industry have gained momentum. We are focusing on expanding our cooperation beyond the purchase and sale of weapons, ammunition, and non-lethal materials, and developing joint projects and technologies. Currently, TUSAŞ has signed memoranda of understanding with Brazil-based Akaer Engenharia and Embraer. We are working on establishing a joint aircraft production platform with TUSAŞ and Embraer. Furthermore, we are holding discussions with the same company oregarding the joint production of TUSAŞ's AKSUNGUR and ANKA series UAVs, taking into account Brazilian needs. There are also connections regarding jet engines. On the other hand, ROKETSAN and Baykar are holding discussions with Brazilian companies regarding the sale of defense industry products.”

Akaer was instrumental in airframe design of the latest Gripen E &F fighter Jets. They were also involved in the design of Hurjet’s airframe.

Embtaer is a well known and established commercial and military transport aircraft manufacturer.

It would be interesting to know what degree of cooperation is envisaged in jet engine manufacturing.

I wonder if the Brazilian deal will have any implications for a cargo plane work. There seems to be no word specific to it but a joint aircraft production platform can encompass anything you want. C-390 being a potent plane can satisfy the needs of many customers but it is probably not a perfect match for the needs of Türkiye. Türkiye does not want to be merely a customer to any defence product for one. Secondly the capacity of the plane is probably not enough to carry some of our defence products export transportation and power projection needs overall.
