Any info about that AWACS platform?

The one in this picture seems to be the first iteration of the 6 AWACS requirement (for total of 15 when combined with phalcons-ilyushin and netra-embraer).

By "netra" i mean the local LRDE developed + deployed radar system used on the embraer platform (the combined system is technically what is "Netra"...there are 3 of them).

BTW, LRDE is one of the best labs in DRDO.

This first iteration had a (new + imported) A330 platform (which was only supplier that responded to the RFI iirc) and would have NETRA ie Netra-a330.

It was scrapped due to cost I think.

The current platform (2nd iteration) has moved on to A320 (retired Air India a/c) ...i,e netra-a320.

It made appearance in the earlier aero india:

There is also long term effort for larger (dome array) for netra (much like you see with the A330 one), though we have to see what a/c platform that will end up using....and what requirement will shape up then in numbers for it:

That thread in pages 1 to 2 also has context on the current (A320) iteration.

The earlier project (360 dome radar on A330) was called AWACS-India and is now reportedly shelved, yes.

It's been replaced with the AEW&C Mk-II (aka Netra Mk-II) program which is basically an improvement of the Netra system as it exists on the Embraer EMB-145I, but this time will be mounted on A319/320 platform.

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday reviewed preparations for the upcoming Defexpo, billed as Asia’s largest exhibition of military platforms and equipment. Gandhinagar in Gujarat will host the 12th edition of Defexpo from March 10-14.

The event was earlier scheduled for four days beginning March 10, but the defence ministry on Friday said Singh has extended it by one day.

“The Defexpo-2022 is symbolic of India’s resolve to further its business interests and take global initiatives towards furthering peace and security in the region,” the ministry said.

It said 930 exhibitors have registered for the mega event so far and the number is expected to rise beyond 1,000 in the days ahead.

After Singh reviewed the preparations, it said the event is being organised as one of the largest international exhibitions of military platforms.

“The event is being organised as one of the largest defence international exhibitions of the world. There has been greater domestic and international interest in this 12th edition of Defexpo since India relaxed its health protocols owing to the reduction in COVID-19 cases,” the ministry said in a statement.

That doesn't even remotely look armored or capable enough to take an RPG hit, let alone an ATGM...hopefully there's some ERA or modular armor in the works

Its the base configuration for sure (just look at the concept art already out there, they are much more armoured up).

Useful to have at this juncture first to test and check out the traction system thoroughly first.
