FINCANTIERI: SERVICE CONTRACT FOR GERMAN SUBMARINES​

-Folgiero: “The Navy of the country with the largest shipbuilding capacity in the world in conventional submarines calls on Fincantieri”​


Trieste, June 12, 2023 - As part of the governmental and industrial cooperation programme between Italy and Germany on the U-212A class of submarines, Fincantieri has signed a contract with the Directorate of Naval Armaments of the Secretariat General of Defence / National Armaments Directorate for on-demand servicing of German Navy submarines.

The contract will be for five years and will replicate the on-demand service model Fincantieri applies on Italian Navy vessels, i.e., intervening on call to ensure the highest performance of the units.

Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, commented: “This contract represents a significant international recognition of the technological and reputational level we have achieved. It is a source of great satisfaction that the Navy of the country with the largest experience and capacity in the world in conventional submarines has turned to Fincantieri to assure the same servicing effectiveness that we offer to our own Navy’s fleet. This achievement contributes to reinforce the Group’s role as a strategic Defence hub in the Mediterranean in the underwater sector”.

The U-212A Programme originated with an agreement between the Defence Ministries of Italy and Germany in 1996 and stems from the Italian Navy’s need to possess a new class of submarines meeting modern operational requirements by 2006. The path of international cooperation was taken because of the extensive parallels between the needs of the two countries’ armed forces, in terms of both operational requirements and the timeframe for implementation.

The Italian Navy’s U-212A fleet comprises four units; the German fleet has six.

Fincantieri recently announced that the construction of the third new-generation submarine for the Italian Navy's U-212NFS (Near Future Submarine) programme – an evolution of the U-212A contracted to Fincantieri has received parliamentary approval and will now proceed through the usual administrative process.

NAVIRIS MOVES FORWARD ON THE MID-LIFE UPGRADE OF THE HORIZON FRIGATES



Paris, June 27, 2023 - During the Paris Air Show on June 20th, France and Italy representatives signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) of the four Horizon Frigates of the French and Italian Navies. Their modernization will be entrusted to Naviris, the 50/50 owned joint venture by Fincantieri and Naval Group and Eurosam, a consortium formed by MBDA and Thales.A formal contract will be signed in a few weeks, by Naviris, Eurosam and OCCAR, representing Italy and France.




This step follows a feasibility study phase, which was signed in 2020 by Naviris as prime contractor and OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation). This study was the first stage of the project and it was mainly focused on the anti-aircraft defense system of the four vessels. It aimed at identifying and analyzing the modifications to be implemented on the French and Italian Horizon class Frigates to increase their capabilities until the end of their life cycle.



This cooperation will cover the overall modernization of the Frigates, with a focus on the anti-aircraft defense system (including the radars, weapons and associated Control and Command), the platform and combat system, and the electronic warfare system that will be common to both Nations.



Naviris will work in close relationship with its co-contractor Eurosam, its parent companies Fincantieri and Naval Group, and its other industrial partners including Leonardo, Thales, MBDA and Sigen. Naviris will be in charge of work on the Combat System Modernization (Anti Air Warfare integration, new electronic warfare, new communication, new combat management system, upgrade and obsolescence treatment, new optronic) & also platform modernization (new ship management system, upgrade and obsolescence treatment), while Eurosam will modernize the anti-aircraft warfare chain (C2 PAAMS, new radars).

The Horizon Frigates were originally built between 2000 and 2010 in a joint program between Fincantieri and Naval Group, providing the Italian and French Navies with two first-class anti-air Frigates each. Within this context, the coordinated work of seven industrial partners led by Naviris will answer to the need of the rationalization of the Frigates’ performance, availability and maintenance.


This contract marks the continuation of a long-standing industrial cooperation between France and Italy. The modernization of the Horizon Frigates, carried out jointly by the two countries via the Naviris subsidiary, is part of this continuity. Naviris, with the support of its two parent companies Naval Group and Fincantieri, has built with Eurosam an industrial project which is also a binational cooperation between France and Italy.

FINCANTIERI: KEEL LAYING IN CASTELLAMMARE OF “ATLANTE”, THE SECOND LSS UNIT FOR THE ITALIAN NAVY


Trieste, June 28, 2023 - Today, in the Castellammare di Stabia shipyard, took place the keel laying ceremony of the second Logistic Support Ship (LSS) “Atlante” for the Italian Navy, within a program including a third ship.


The unit, built in Castellammare di Stabia, will be delivered in 2025.The value of the contract is approx. 410 million euros including the combat system.


The ceremony was attended, among others, by Vice Admiral Giuseppe Abbamonte, Director of Naval Armaments – NAVARM, and C.A. Lorenzo Poliseno, OCCAR LSS Programme Manager, welcomed by Mauro Leboffe and Francesco Lubrano, respectively Senior Vice President Operations of the Naval Vessels Division and Director of the Castellammare Shipyard for Fincantieri.


As part of the multi-year program aimed at safeguarding Italy’s Defence at-sea capacity (known as the “Naval Act”), Fincantieri is currently building seven multi-purpose offshore patrol vessels (PPA) and the “Trieste” Landing Helicopter Dock. In 2021 the Group delivered the “Vulcano” LSS, a vessel partially built at the Castellammare di Stabia shipyard, a project also acquired by the French Navy for the definition of the Flotlog program, a series of units built in partnership with the same shipyard.


The basic characteristic common to all three classes of the Italian ships is their very high level of innovation, which makes them extremely flexible in their various profiles of use with a high degree of efficiency. Most importantly, it will be possible to use these units in a complementary way even for non-military-related activities, such as, for example, supporting civil protection in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. Moreover, their environmental impact is low, thanks to advanced low pollution emission generators and electric-drive propulsion motors and biological waste control systems.

THE SECOND LSS FORWARD SECTION FOR CHANTIERS DE L’ATLANTIQUE LAUNCHED


Trieste, July 18, 2023 - The forward section of the second logistic support units LSS (Logistic Support Ship) ordered by Chantiers de l’Atlantique to Fincantieri under the FLOTLOG program (“Flotte logistique”), was launched today at the Castellammare di Stabia (Naples) shipyard.


The FLOTLOG program consists in the construction of four Logistic Support Ships (LSS), destined to the French Navy, by the temporary consortium between Chantiers de l’Atlantique and Naval Group under the Italian-French LSS Program led by OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) on behalf of DGA, the French Armament General Directorate, and its Italian counterpart, NAVARM.


The highly innovative LSS program, similarly to the units of the multi-year program for the renewal of the Italian Navy’s fleet, provides a considerable degree of efficiency and flexibility in serving different mission profiles.


The LSS unit combines features of transportation and transfer to other vessels of both liquid (diesel fuel, jet fuel, fresh water) and solid loads (emergency spare parts, food and ammunitions). The first vessel, “Vulcano”, has been delivered by Fincantieri to the Italian Navy at the beginning of 2021.

THE THIRD NFS SUBMARINE FOR THE ITALIAN NAVY TO FINCANTIERI


Trieste, July 21, 2023 - OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d’Armement, the international organization for joint armament cooperation) has exercised the construction of the third new generation submarine related to the U212NFS (Near Future Submarine) program for the Italian Navy assigned to Fincantieri.


The vessel has a total value of more than euro 500 million, including the integrated support service, and will be delivered in 2030.Future program development also contemplates an additional 160 million for future additional activities or provision of specific additional capabilities required by the Navy.


The U212NFS submarines will be highly innovative, with significant design modifications which will all be developed independently by Fincantieri, which holds the role of Design Authority, in accordance with the requirements of the Navy. The program responds to the need to secure adequate underwater spatial surveillance and control capacity, considering the future complex scenarios of underwater operations and that the operational lifetime of the 4 “Sauro” class submarines, currently in service, is drawing near. It also aims at upholding and further developing Fincantieri’s acquired strategic and innovative industrial know-how, as well as consolidating the technological lead attained by the company and its supply chain, major industries, and small and medium-sized enterprises of the sector, enhancing the presence on board of technologically advanced component parts developed by Italian industries.


The tasks that submarines perform for the benefit of the community are manifold. On a daily basis, Navy submarines are engaged in the surveillance of maritime communication routes and the underwater dimension, including within NATO and EU alliances. It is a role that is becoming increasingly important in light of the country’s interests that reside below the surface of the sea, from seabed resources to underwater energy and communications infrastructure.

NEWCLEO, FINCANTIERI AND RINA WORKING TOGETHER ON FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR NUCLEAR NAVAL PROPULSION

Companies sign agreement to explore closed mini reactor design application for use on large vessels, with potential to decarbonise shipping industry


LONDON, UK, 25 JULY 2023 – newcleo, the clean and safe nuclear technology company developing innovative Generation IV reactors using nuclear waste as fuel, announced today that it has signed an agreement with Fincantieri (BIT: FCT), one of the largest shipbuilding companies in the world, and RINA, the inspection, certification, ship classification and consulting engineering multinational.


Under the terms of this agreement, the three companies are combining their deep international expertise and innovation experience to carry out together a feasibility study for nuclear applications to the shipping industry, including newcleo’s lead-cooled small modular reactors (SMRs) technology.


The deployment of newcleo’s innovative LFR (Lead-cooled Fast Reactor) for naval propulsion would involve placing a closed mini reactor on vessels as a small nuclear battery producing a 30MW electric output. This would require infrequent refuelling (only once every 10-15 years), very limited maintenance and easy replacement at end of life.


Using clean nuclear energy to power marine vessels would help rapidly decarbonise a sector grappling with huge fossil fuel consumption and its consequent carbon emissions. The shipping industry, via the International Maritime Organization (IMO), approved last week at MEPC(80) the new targets for GHG emission reduction, to reach net-zero GHG emissions by or around (i.e. close to) 2050.


While the shipping industry still carries 90% of the world’s goods, and the fourth IMO GHG Study 2020 confirms that its carbon dioxide emissions are less than 3% of the total global man-made CO2 emissions, the actions of the big players of this industry have the potential to drive trends and markets.


Also, using nuclear power on ships would safeguard the marine ecosystem in the event of an accident. With newcleo’s design the liquid lead inside the reactor would solidify as it cools down in contact with the cold water, enclosing the reactor core in a solid casing, and containing all radiation thanks to the shielding properties of lead.


Finally, the newcleo naval propulsion reactors would eliminate the current need for frequent refuelling, and at the end of its life, the whole LFR unit would be simply removed and replaced with a new one in the ship, and the spent unit taken away for decommissioning and reprocessing.

ORIZZONTE SISTEMI NAVALI SIGNS CONTRACT FOR NEW ITALIAN NAVY OPVS


Trieste/Rome, July 31, 2023 – As part of the Italian Navy OPV (Offshore Patrol Vessel) acquisition programme Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (OSN), the joint venture between Fincantieri and Leonardo, with respective stakes of 51% and 49%, has signed a contract with the Italian Secretariat General of Defence and National Armaments Directorate for the construction of three next generation patrol vessels, with the options for a further three units and infrastructural upgrades required for the naval bases in Augusta, Cagliari and Messina, where the vessels will be based.


The overall value of the contract for the first three units is euro 925 million, including the related integrated logistics support. Over the coming days, OSN will finalise the sub-contracts with Fincantieri and Leonardo, with a value respectively of around euro 540 and 255 million. The one for Fincantieri constitutes significant related party transactions defined in compliance with the applicable legislation. For Leonardo the above supply agreement, to be concluded between Leonardo and OSN, is a related party transaction of “lesser importance”, taking into account the contract value and the applicable relevance indexes.


The transactions benefit of the exemption from the procedural regime provided for transactions with (even jointly) subsidiaries, pursuant to current regulations and respective procedures adopted.


The OPV program addresses the need to ensure adequate capabilities for presence and surveillance, maritime surveillance, merchant traffic control, protection of lines of communication and the exclusive economic zone, as well as activities to protect against threats from marine pollution, such as spills of toxic liquids.


With a length of about 95 metres, a displacement of 2,300 tonnes and the capacity to accommodate 97 crew members on board, the new patrol vessels will be marked by their high concentration of technological solutions, as well as high standards in terms of automation and manoeuvrability, making them suitable to operate in a wide range of tactical scenarios and weather conditions.


One of the most innovative features is the “naval cockpit”, developed for the Italian Navy’s Multipurpose Offshore Patrol Vessels (PPAs), on the basis of a truly revolutionary requirement: an integrated workstation was designed, co-produced by Leonardo and Fincantieri NexTech, which allows the ship and aeronaval operations to be controlled by only two operators, the pilot and copilot, who fulfil the duties of officer of the watch on the bridge and commander. Indeed, from this station, located in the command bridge, it is possible to manage the machinery, rudders and platform systems as well as some of the functions of the combat management system.


Roberto Cingolani, CEO of Leonardo, said: This contract rewards and brings together the best of Italian technology. Leonardo and Fincantieri, through OSN, are able to offer state of the art solutions for national security. This is the fruit of a solid and prospective synergy. The Navy is guaranteed the garrison of a long-term capability”.

AGREEMENT BETWEEN FINCANTIERI AND C.A.B.I. CATTANEO


Trieste/Milan, August 3rd, 2023 –
Fincantieri, one of the world’s leading shipbuilding groups, and C.A.B.I. Cattaneo (hereafter CABI), a leading Italian company in the design, development and supply of underwater vehicles for Naval Special Forces, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the assessment of commercial and industrial cooperation in the field of underwater vehicles and their integration with larger vessels.


The agreement was signed by Pierroberto Folgiero and Alberto Villa, CEO of Fincantieri and CABI, respectively, in the presence of Admiral Enrico Credendino, Chief of the Italian Navy.


The MoU, which may be followed by an additional cooperation agreement to be finalized within the year, will allow underwater vehicles to be integrated with Fincantieri surface and underwater vessels, improving, thanks to this new synergy, the products that can be offered in the target global markets.


In particular, the design, construction, fit-out and setting to work of the main vessels will be the responsibility of Fincantieri, which will be the Design Authority, while CABI will take on the same role for the underwater vehicles.


The companies believe that this agreement, which may be extended to other specialist companies, can strengthen their positioning in relation to potential overseas customers. Indeed, the offering will be strengthened through the marketing of a single capacity package where, for the first time, in addition to the Fincantieri platform, there will be underwater vehicles produced by CABI, functionally and physically integrated right from the initial stages of the design of the mother ship.

FINCANTIERI CUTTING-EDGE UNMANNED SOLUTIONS AT REPMUS 2023


Trieste, September 20, 2023 - Fincantieri and its subsidiaries Fincantieri NexTech and IDS – Ingegneria Dei Sistemi are collaborating with the Italian Navy CSSN (Centro di Supporto e Sperimentazione Navale) at the REPMUS (Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping augmented by Maritime Unmanned Systems) 2023, the annual military exercise organized and hosted by the Portuguese Navy and NATO with the participation of forces from foreign military forces, universities and tech companies.


The REPMUS, underway these days in Portugal, allows NATO and partner countries, NATO Centres of Excellence, and NATO STO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation – CMRE, to test in a realistic environment the Fincantieri cutting-edge unmanned system solutions, which include the Multi Mission MUS Toolkit based on the SAND (Surface Advanced Naval Drone) together with an innovative UMS (Unmanned Management System).


Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, stated: “The underwater dimension is acquiring increasing relevance due to the presence of critical infrastructures, resources and activities. In this a context, Fincantieri is an accelerator and catalyst for marine technologies providing considerable underwater and surface warfare capabilities and ensuring the interoperability between unmanned and legacy assets”.


The Multi Mission MUS Toolkit can be integrated on new and legacy vessels increasing the effectiveness and persistence related to the execution of specific military activities and reducing or eliminating the exposure of personnel to risks. The platform and its payloads autonomous activities can be controlled and supervised by the operators working at the control stations, based on the experience acquired with both remotely operated surface and air unmanned systems of IDS (now part of Fincantieri NexTech).


SAND, launched in early 2019 under a joint project between IDS, Effebi and Meccano Engineering, is a reconfigurable multirole unmanned surface vehicle that can be used for a variety of missions, from Search and Rescue to environmental monitoring and maritime security. SAND has been developed primarily aiming to address recursive or dangerous operational scenarios where the employment of personnel can be safely and effectively replaced by use of unmanned and autonomous vessels.


Over the last year, a Launch & Recovery System (LARS) capable to deploy the unmanned underwater vehicles’ from Graal Tech that can provide naval mine warfare, anti-submarine warfare and critical seabed infrastructure protection capabilities was integrated on SAND. The SAND, acting as a communication gateway, allows the capability, through the Fincantieri NexTech’s UMS, to manage a coordinated team of unmanned systems of different types (air, surface and submarine) from virtual ship ashore or from real warships like the Italian FREMM.


The system is also provided with a high level of standardization in the data protocol, including the CATL for the communication among different command and control systems that supports interoperability in line with the emerging NATO STANAG 4817.

FINCANTIERI LAUNCHES THE SIXTH PPA "RUGGIERO" DI LAURIA IN MUGGIANO


Today, the technical launch of the sixth Multipurpose Offshore Patrol ship (PPA) “Ruggiero di Lauria” took place at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Muggiano.


The ceremony was attended, among others, by the Admiral Enrico Credendino, Chief of the Italian Navy, and Gianmarco Medusei, President of the Regional Council of Liguria, welcomed for Fincantieri by Gen. Claudio Graziano, Chairman, and Dario Deste, General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division.


This vessel is part of the renewal plan of the operational lines of the Italian Navy vessels, approved by the Government and Parliament and started in May 2015 (“Naval Act”) under the aegis of OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Cooperation sur l’Armement, the international organization for cooperation on arms).


Vessel’s characteristics: PPA – Multipurpose Offshore Patrol Ship

The multipurpose offshore patrol vessel is a highly flexible ship with the capacity to serve multiple functions, ranging from patrol with sea rescue capacity to Civil Protection operations and, in its most highly equipped version, first line fighting vessel. There will be indeed different configurations of combat system: starting from a “soft” version for the patrol task, integrated for self-defence ability, to a “full” one, equipped for a complete defence ability. The vessel is also capable of operating high-speed vessels such as RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) up to 11 meters long through lateral cranes or a hauling ramp located at the far stern.


• 143 meters long overall

• Speed more than 31 knots according to vessel configuration and operational conditions

• 171 persons of the crew

• Equipped with a combined diesel, a gas turbine plant (CODAG) and an electric propulsion system

• Capacity to supply drinking water to land


The Multipurpose Offshore Patrol ships are built at the Integrated Shipyard of Riva Trigoso and Muggiano, with deliveries expected until 2026.

LAUNCHING OF THE FIRST PHASE OF THE EUROPEAN PATROL CORVETTE PROJECT WITH SIGNATURE OF MODULAR AND MULTIROLE PATROL CORVETTE CONTRACT


On the 24th October 2023, with a ceremony held at OCCAR premises in Rome, OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation) has signed with a Consortium, coordinated by Naviris and gathering together Fincantieri (Italy), Naval Group (France), Navantia (Spain) and other beneficiaries from Greece, Denmark and Norway (*) all the Modular and Multirole Patrol Corvette (MMPC) contractual documents for the implementation of the first phase of the European Patrol Corvette (EPC) project.



The overall value of this first phase is 87 M€ and is strongly supported by the European Commission (EC) through the European Defence Fund (EDF). Indeed, 60 M€ will be funded by the EC in the form of “grants” while the remaining 27 M€ will be funded by the Member States (Italy, France, Spain, Denmark, Greece and Norway) who decided to support the project. OCCAR will manage the full scope of the project, acting as Granting Authority, on mandate of the EC, and Contracting Authority, on mandate of the above-mentioned Member States.


On the same day, the Delegates of the companies signed a consortium agreement, whose objective is to rule the execution of the project, maximizing synergies and collaboration among European shipbuilding industries.



With a duration of 24 months, this MMPC first contract aims to provide the initial design of a next generation class of naval vessel, the European Patrol Corvette (EPC), launched in the context of a PESCO project (1). The EPC will include at first two main versions: the Long Range Multipurpose and the Full Combat Multipurpose, both maximizing innovations, synergies and cross-fertilization among three main European shipbuilding architects and manufacturers Naval Group, Fincantieri, Navantia, linked with the operational needs of the different Navies.


The EPC programme represents a step forward in the European defence cooperation. It will strongly contribute to the European sovereignty in the second line vessels domain, by strengthening the European industry, increasing efficiency and lowering delays to go from the military need to the delivery to Navies. By developing together a new and disruptive class of corvettes, the four companies aim to ensure and foster a European sovereignty based on European "in-house" skills and know-how. This contract signature highlights the capabilities of the nations, through the management by OCCAR, to work efficiently together and to pool the know-how of their prominent naval industries, for supporting the European navies. It also shows how important and effective can be the EDF, to support the European Member States in the development of defence capabilities made in Europe.


Based on innovative and disruptive technologies, the new class will illustrate a group of smart, innovative, affordable, sustainable, interoperable and flexible vessels designed to meet a wide range of missions in a continuously evolving context. Depending on the requirements specified by each Navy, the ships will be able to carry out a wide range of missions in operational contexts as diverse as surveillance on the high seas with a high degree of autonomy, or law enforcement and sovereignty affirmation missions closer to the coast, adapted to the different Navies needs.

Fincantieri: support services contract with Egypt


Fincantieri has signed with the Armament Authority formally representing the Ministry of defense of the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, a 10-year contract related to two Fremm vessels of In-Service Support and Integrated Logistic Support, i.e., preventive maintenance services, logistic studies and corrective maintenance on demand, with a value of about € 260 million.


The contract is subject to the fulfillment of customary conditions precedent for the sector. The total value of the contract includes the portion that will be allocated to Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (OSN) – the joint venture owned by Fincantieri and Leonardo with stakes of 51% and 49%, respectively – as a sub-supplier.


The sub-supplier agreement between Fincantieri and OSN constitutes a transaction between related parties of greater significance defined in compliance with the relevant applicable regulations. The transaction benefits from the exclusion from the procedural regime provided for transactions with subsidiaries (including jointly).

The ninth multipurpose frigate “Spartaco Schergat” launched​

The Italo-French FREMM program continues​


The launching ceremony of the Spartaco Schergat frigate, the ninth of a series of 10 FREMM vessels – Multi Mission European Frigates, took place today at the integrated shipyard of Riva Trigoso (Genoa). The 10 FREMM vessels have been commissioned to Fincantieri by the Italian Navy within the framework of an Italo-French international cooperation program, under the coordination of OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d’Armement), the joint organization for European cooperation in armaments.


The godmother of the launch was Arianna Somma, granddaughter of the Golden Medal for Military Valor Spartaco Schergat, from whom the ship takes its name.


Among others, the event was attended by the President of the Regional Council of the Liguria Region, Gianmarco Medusei, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Edoardo Rixi, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Italian Navy, Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, the Director of OCCAR, General Joachim Sucker, and the Director of the General Directorate of Naval Armaments - NAVARM, Vice Admiral Giuseppe Abbamonte, welcomed by the Chairman of Fincantieri, General Claudio Graziano and Dario Deste, General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division.


After the launching, the fitting activities of the unit will continue at the Muggiano shipyard (La Spezia), with delivery scheduled in 2025. The Spartaco Schergat vessel, like the other units, will feature a high degree of operational flexibility and will have the ability to operate in all tactical situations. 144 meters long, with a beam of 19.7 meters, the ship will have a full load displacement of about 6,700 tons. It will be able to reach a speed of over 27 knots with a maximum capacity of about 200 people on board.


The FREMM program, representing the Italian and European defense state of the art, stems from the need to renew the line of units of the Italian Navy, including the “Lupo” and “Maestrale” class frigates, built by Fincantieri in the Seventies and Eighties. The vessel Carlo Bergamini was delivered in 2012, the Virginio Fasan in 2013, the Carlo Margottini in 2014, the Carabiniere in 2015, the Alpino in 2016, the Luigi Rizzo in 2017, the Federico Martinengo in 2018 and the Antonio Marceglia in 2019.

FINCANTIERI SIGNED A CONTRACT FOR THE ACQUISITION OF REMAZEL ENGINEERING S.P.A.


Fincantieri S.p.A., within the frame of the strategic development project in the Subsea and Marine Energy segments, signed an agreement for the acquisition of the entire share capital of Remazel Engineering S.p.A. ("Remazel") from Advanced Technology Industrial Group S.A. The rationale and the main terms and conditions of the acquisition have already been made known by a communication released on 1 December 2023, which also included information about Remazel.


The acquisition, fully financed through Fincantieri's own resources, is expected to be closed by the first quarter of 2024. Closing of the acquisition shall be subject to conditions precedent in line with market practice for this type of transactions.

EDGE Group and Shipbuilding Giant Fincantieri Launch Multi-Billion Euro Joint Venture

EDGE, one of the world’s leading advanced technology and defence groups, and Fincantieri, one of the largest shipbuilding companies in the world, have entered into a term sheet aimed at creating a joint venture (JV) to capitalise on global shipbuilding opportunities with a focus on the manufacturing of a broad range of sophisticated naval vessels. EDGE will hold a 51% stake in the venture, which has a commercial pipeline valued at approximately 30 billion euros, with management direction provided by Fincantieri. The Abu Dhabi-based JV will be awarded prime rights to non-NATO orders, especially leveraging on the attractiveness of UAE G2G arrangements and export credit financing packages, along with a number of strategic orders placed by select NATO member countries.


At Palazzo Marina, Rome, Italy, in the presence of Matteo Perego di Cremnago, Undersecretary of State for Defence, Admiral Enrico Credendino, Chief of the Italian Navy, Lieutenant General Luciano Portolano, Italian Secretary General of Defence/National Armaments Director, and, for Fincantieri, of General Claudio Graziano, Chairman, and of Dario Deste, General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division, the term sheet to create the JV was formalised through the signatures of Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, and of Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri.


This agreement grants the JV strong cooperation to market its products with the Navy of different countries in the world, underlining its global ambition and commitment to developing joint intellectual property and future designs. This strategic agreement significantly enhances EDGE's ability to design and build frigates and other large vessels, broadening its range of operations and marking a crucial advancement in the diversification of its maritime solutions portfolio. The JV also harbours ambitions to develop an underwater program for mid-size submarines. The incorporation of the JV is subject to a series of conditions precedent, customary for an agreement of this kind.

Fincantieri and the Alexandria shipyard: MOU signed at the DIMDEX in DOHA


Fincantieri and the Alexandria Shipyard (Egypt) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Doha.


The MOU is aimed at setting out the principles for discussions which will mainly focus on investigating new opportunities with the Alexandria Shipyard for new vessels to be built by the Alexandria Shipyard. The collaboration will focus on possible new Navy ships programs of different types.


The signing between the General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division of Fincantieri, Dario Deste, and the Chairman of Alexandria Shipyard, took place at the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition & Conference (DIMDEX).


The Alexandria Shipyard is the largest Shipyard in Egypt and Africa and one of the biggest shipyards among Arab countries. It has a long track record in the field of military and commercial shipbuilding industries by building modern corvettes for the Egyptian Navy. It builds various types and sizes of multipurpose vessels, offshore oil rigs and oil platforms.


Both Fincantieri and the Alexandria Shipyard are looking for new joint business opportunities and to be awarded a contract, by a prospective customer, for the supply of any type of vessel of interest, to be agreed upon between them.

Fincantieri and the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces: strategic alliance for naval education&training


Fincantieri and the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces (QENF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Doha aimed at starting discussions with the goal of entering into new contracts for the provision to the QENF personnel of cutting-edge education & training patterns.


The signing between the General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division of Fincantieri, Dario Deste, and Major General Abdulla Hassan Al-Sulaiti Commander of the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces, took place at the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition & Conference (DIMDEX) 2024, held last week in Qatar.


The Group and the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces will deepen discussions on content and modalities for Fincantieri to continue and improve the cutting-edge Italian education & training patterns with the support of the Italian Authorities and the other defense partners.


The patterns will be based on an innovative concept of education & training and on the continuous growth of the QENF maritime capabilities and will grant the full integration and interoperability with the Qatari on-ground and air military capabilities as well as with allied foreign navies.


In June 2016, the Qatar Armed Forces and Fincantieri signed a contract for the construction of seven naval vessels and for the provision of In-Service Support, Integrated Logistic Support, industrial training for crews and base maintainers and operative trainings for crews, language courses for each vessel and related board and lodging and infrastructure.


Fincantieri has already delivered six vessels and has performed part of the above-mentioned activities, including part of the training for QENF personnel (industrial training for crews and base maintainers and operative trainings for crews).


Following up the training paths already effectively carried out in Italy by Fincantieri, with focus on the operation of the Italian Combat System on board the vessels and consistent with the training tools already delivered, the QENF is interested in implementing the education & training programs with the purpose of maintaining the capabilities acquired within the QENF with a continuous refreshment.
