Lol, are you saying that US doesn't know how to count their own ships and they need your help to do the job?
Not really, everyone knows the US intended to increase funding for the US military pivot in the Pacific. Hence the China scare.

People's like you took the bait.

Maybe they didn't count the ESB and included a couple other things to get to the number they did....difference of around 80k DWT.

@Anmdt
Could be a difference of short-long tons but i am not sure, haven't checked the numbers.

@AlphaMike is explaining how US counts the ships and lists them in the inventory by splitting into USN and USNS prefixes. You should spare your time to read long posts sometimes.

It is wise to not include auxillaries into such comparisons especially while working with the tonnage (they tend to be enormous), and not including boats less than 100 tonnes while working the pieces of units (they tend to be in mass amounts).

Their funding most goes to salary and pension but not equipments, that's where PPP , purchasing power parity shines, which China's is much much bigger than US's.
From US daily hysterious reports about China's progress on this and that, who do you think is scared? China doesn't report US military news much if not at all.

I read reports directly from US military and defence officials, they know better of their strength than some random forum users here, I guess.

Well the point is, if you have read directly some other articles or sources you would then know what @AlphaMike telling is true. Do you have any counter arguments or sources to make your point from those officials and US military then please englighten us without claiming people to be unthrustworthy.

I m not saying his point is true or not, I m just saying I would rather read data and study issued by US own military and government office than "experts" in this forum. sorry, it's my personal preference.

explaining how

if you have read

counter arguments or sources to make your point

On the critical thinking scale where:
1 (volumetric-inclined bozo spammer)...2....3....4....5....6....7....8....9....10 (critical thinker/analyser)

I generally sniff out numbers 1 - 4 (I classify as generic dullards/bottom feeders) fairly easily and tend to go glassy eyed over their predictable brain strain when they try to venture into 4+ scale environments.

Reasonable people can figure out where I put some forum "participants" on this scale themselves.

I likewise dont look kindly upon people that park themselves in a public establishment (a forum literally being a latin OG type of it) and proceed to try to hog all the food and attention.

Something (distasteful) is eating them inside to produce that level of cringey boorish behaviour.

If they are tolerated by the head honchos for whatever reason, I quickly make my way to (and stay at) the table furthest from them...in interest of the other qualitative friends, patrons and more civil general people-watching.

All in the interests of my plate of food not getting sullied by their sloppy spittle antics lacking basic table manners and etiquette.... and in the interest of my decibel + cringe tolerance from their karaoke mic hogging.

Not to mention what kind of boor they provably have been and are in much more "lax" establishments.

Basic upbringing and character matters a lot in the professional, critical realm.

You either have it or you don't.

There is also the "small" matter of what relevance a specific year has relative to say 5 year average.

Myanmar launched something super DWT stronk looks like in 2019...its putting japan, korea, italy, france and many more to shame...

These are reports "direct from US military and defence officials"....

"Avid report reader" will have you know its TOTALLY not part and parcel of spam bot drivel selectivism devoid of basic critical analysis.

Psh, perish the thought....*repeat the copy paste reply as needed unironically*.
