"Türkiye will not approve Sweden’s bid to join NATO as long as it continues to permit those who burn the Quran, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said, repeating Ankara’s favorable position for Finland’s application to the alliance."

We, literally, indexed Sweden's application to Quran burning. We're not approving their application not because they support terrorists, not because our armored vehicles are being blown up by Swedish ATGMs used by terrorists, not because they embargo us but because, as a secular state, we despise their handling of burning of "our" holy book.

We truly became the epitome of diplomacy.

absolutely brainless diplomacy, but its ak party its to be expected.

Does this mean Turkiye wants those existing members of NATO that permit Quran burning to be kicked out (incl the biggest member)?

This is not the issue....ugh. When will Turkish leadership realise how to stay firm on a solid basis.

Populism, survival mode - anything and everything will be used and squeezed to get through the general elections in May.

They know it, they just don't care enough about the country's international image and long-term reliability to separate propaganda for domestic electoral use and what they convey through international diplomatic discourse.

Wow ?! Really ?
Thats same as saying US is not secular because his president oath placing his hand on Bible (religion) .🤦‍♂️

Secular means that a State doesn’t have any connection with religion. By that definition, many countries are not secular, even if it’s written in their constitution.

Same for Sweden as they have a king they believe is appointed by God.

It is a statement aimed at domestic politics and other Muslim countries, but it does not have an equivalent.

Erdogan is just an opportunist like all politicians.

What sets him apart is how uses opportunites to bolster his support. By showing how his the defender of faith to his conservative supporters.

Populism has always been in Turkish politics and everybody used it.

How many times religion and the legacy of Ataturk is talked? Every time. Politicians themselves have no shame.

Its literally a football team.

Burning of the Quran not just riled up Muslims its an own goal by the Swedes.

Everytime Erdogan's popularity begins to fall and even decline. Westerners always find ways to make Erdogan get the boost needs he needs. People who are not going to vote for him will start to vote for him just to stick it to Westerners.

As a result Turkiye on the global stage continues to lose.

PKK issue is a dead issue now, AK party turned it into a Quran issue. We lost this diplomatic game too.

As long as erdogan continues to portray Turkiye as some kind of islamofascist dictatorship, we might as well give up talking about any of our legitimate concerns. Because once you look like isis, it doesn't matter what your arguments or legitimate grievances are.

Whether its the agean, east med, syria, iraq, the cacaucses, it doesnt matter anymore talking is pointless. AK party tarnished Turkiye to such a degree that it honestly feels worthless now in the west to mention our side of the argument.

Turkiyes enemies celebrate these days with absolute glee. We turned into an international joke.

For real, Erdogan is doing everything to portray Turkiye as some kind of fanatical religious dictatorship. What is the final goal ?

It looks like he is intentionally destroying the image of the Turks in the world. We know he's not ethnically Turkish and we know most AK party members come from minority ethnicities who potentially all harbour historical grievances against the Turks, since at the end of the day the Turks walked in and took over. It would explain why cypto greek islamists like the guy who claimed it would have been better had the kaffir armies defeated the Turkish liberation armies is celebrated within AK party circles.

We know AK party has its roots in western intelligence agencies and its all too convenient how everything always coalesces to keep AK party in power. The Quran burning incident for example will help his domestic campaign, while destroying Turkiyes international reputation even further. The so called opposition "babacan" going after things like "baykar" which helps AK parties election campaign. These guys families used to go on holiday together, they know each other intimately.

I think Turks are trapped in a grand conspiracy.

And depressed! Cause we ain't making anything.😞
It happens with education...

Religious bigotry, sects, sheikhs, shihs, etc. Get rid of the types.(y)

Everyone should practice their religion freely. He should not use religion as a tool for his interests in politics, business, education and daily life.

Unless Islamic countries do these things, they can't be anything. They continue to be exploited and occupied.

Non of these actually our problems.

The only thing truly holding us back is the economic corruption and misgovernment.

It wasnt about religion nor will it ever be
Erdogan is hyper religious and even Baykar is religious and yet they are producing good results in the defence area
Russia is religious as well and certain acts are abhored (such as LGBT) YET, they are manufacturing jets, drones and missiles
Iran is also religious and yet their nuclear program is more advanced than most nations in East Med

It is all comes down to corruption and patriotism!
How many defense companies Ataturk initiated while he was alive only for it to be closed down after his death
- Even in Egypt, during the Egypt-Israeli war, they hired German engineers to build an indiginous jet at the time only for the project to be scrapped due to to under the table dealings with corrupt Egyptian military officials and Mossad activities
- A similar situation happened with the Israeli national jet program which was cancelled due to pressure from the US

Most Muslim nations are corrupt to the core; they are so corrupt that they dont invest in education or even infrastructure. Therefore, dont expect from such states that much. Moreover, they intentionally destroy talented ppl either in order to please tneir foreign masters and backers or due to fear that they (corrupt officials) may be replaced

If your nation's leader isnt patriotic enough to withstand the foreign political pressure either directly in the form of sanctions or embargoes, then dont expect any change from them

I have things to say against what you say, but I don't want to drag it out. You can think as you like. I only say education, nothing else. Based on my 42 years of experience and what I have seen.

By the way, I don't deny the importance of political will.

What I meant is that religion in general isnt the main cause. In fact, most religions endorses studying and exploring new fields etc.... It is just that with corruption, shitty leaders resort to instruments to control the masses from rebellion and religion has been an effective tool since thousands of years just like with the crusades

Fun fact: in Saudi Arabia, they teach kids that it is Prohibited in Islam to go against your leaders which infact isnt true at all

You know something is wrong with your religion when 1.5 billion people follow it, yet you hold very little power in this world.

Islam might be portrayed as a violent religion due to the rise of terrorist groups and the concept of jihad, but in reality many Islamists are punching themselves and their future.

The meaning of the word Islam is "submission to the will of God". SUBMISSION. As the third major Abrahamic religion, people should start questioning who created it and why, and also who they're really submitting to.

There's a reason why so many Islamic countries are either dictatorships or wastelands.

And you just highlighted exactly why Islam is problematic. In recent times I've seen a slew of Islamic propaganda videos about complete mythical nonsense. Some with over a million likes.

It's no wonder why Muslims can radicalise so quickly. Muslims will believe anything that their favourite preacher tells them.
