We should ask ourselves what France's interest is in northern Iraq, now that turkey is making noticeable and drastic progress against the PKK, and considering at the same time that France is one of the biggest supporters of the PKK, YPG, etc. - even before the USA... unlike the USA, the french are more active in the background - how else could one explain all the fortifications in Afrin - which were demonstrably planned by french commanders and engineers and also supplied with french concrete?

The question is - is it a coincidence that France visits northern Iraq and opens diplomatic channels at the same time as the military exercises with Greece? Is that coincidence - or what do you think? should it be given more attention, or is that not unusual?
Your thoughts on this, please...

This is typical diplomatic move. Trying to scare or cause worry, by initiating diplomatic attacks of this kind.

I think French investments could be a good target if necessary. But we could just keep an eye on them and do what we’re doing. It seems to work and more African countries seem interested in what we have to offer.

That would continue to piss off Macron.

France will open as many fronts it can because that will exhaust Turkish resources, where there's a fire for Turkey, France will pour gasoline especially since that gasoline will cost them nothing as I'm willing to think that petrodollars will gladly stand behind France....these are the consequences of Turkish chaotic foreign policy....the EU is an enemy we will blackmail you with migrants ,Russia is a friend, we will stand with them against evil Westerners, wait...Russia is not a friend, they support Assad and terrorism, we must dominate the ME by supporting the Muslim brotherhood, the hell with what the Saudis, Emiratis and Egyptians want!,the US is an enemy! Wait, what? Why is our American ally embargoing us?.....chickens coming home to roost...I can go on all day...

Single word:
Oil
Political move could be secondary reason in here, or just a useful outcome of helping and cooperating with northern Iraq.
Northern Iraq (Musul -Kerkük) had large oil reserve probably they are seeking, or already have license to operate in there, they will secure their oil fields in return providing assistance to regional adminstation in distinctive areas. Plus, Northern Iraq adminstration is not pleased by Turkey's actions, in recent days we have shot their peshmerga while they were wandering around the terrorists. Dont be surprised if you happen to hear French experts training peshmerga and providing advanced weapons to them.

Iraq is already a front for Turkey and has been for decades, it will be another front for France and this time they will had to support a regional adminstration, pretty sure this sounds illegal when a country arms militia or regional adminstration surpassing central government's willing. How could France cooperate with northern Iraq without Baghdad's permission?
Chaotic international politics of Turkey is also a result of West (apart from internal politics and adminstration, we are aware of this part), particularly EU. They haven't supported Turkey when they were supposed to do, they had let Russia do operations in border of Turkey, feeding PKK terrorists in Iraq "clearly" unlike they did hidden in the past. The way west was against Russia but meanwhile they didn't confront or stood against them when it was in their economical gain has messed Turkey's international politics.
Saudi, Emiratis and Egypt are entirely another story, and i find Turkeys stance on them pretty accurate (except Egypt which is again, another story).
Saudi (Since their new prince or king) or UAE has never been aligned with Turkey.

In itself plausible, especially the one about oil wells - but why the "minister of defense"? then it's probably more realistic, that what you mentioned second will happen... we've already found French ATGMs with the YPG - we need to hurry up and push the PKK out of this region - put up fortifications before the French start to provide and equip the PKK with modern AD tech...

Security of oil wells i suppose. Meanwhile they will use PKK (by transferring them to peshmerga) they way US uses YPG in Syria ,as paid militias to secure oil wells. It has beneficial outcome, since i am sure this weapons will somehow be used against Turkey.
I am rather curious if they can do that by surpassing Baghdad.

It is a message from Macron to Erdogan but in this case useless.
We are already on high alert in that region, operations will continue and there is nothing they can do about it.
Bluffs dont work when our security is at stake.

No need to,they have full support from Baghdad.
Remember,Baghdad went to Trump first.
Now suddenly,Macron is active in Iraq.
Do the math.

But are Northern adminstration and Baghdad aligned? I doubt it.

For the moment and especially against us,yes.
As you might know the current leadership of the KRG is in a weak position, failed independence, bad economy, financial problems etc,
The opposition(PUK,PKK) gets stronger which is why the two killed Iraqi military officers were negotiating with the PKK militants instead of Peshmerga.
The death of them together is an indication that the KRG government either works together with PKK/PUK or lost power of the region which means it has no say in it.
I believe its the latter.
We caught them at the right time and place.

I don't know why you guys are making it into a Franco-Turkish issue,French defence ministers and foreign ministers have regularely visited Iraq, either to visit and support French troops deployed there,re-affirm France's support to Iraq in its fight against ISIS but also to deal with the issue of French ISIS fighters and brides/children jailed in Iraq. Nothing new here.

Come on man,why now,in this tence situation?

PARIS (Reuters) - French armed forces minister Florence Parly began a trip to Iraq on Thursday that the ministry said formed part of the country's ongoing commitment to the fight against terrorism and its support for Iraq's sovereignty.

So,the bold underlined part is only meant for non existing ISIS?

I don't think that this visit has particularly something to do with Turkey's involvement in Northern Iraq. France, like any other Western nation, has a "parallel" relationship with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Personally, I'd be more bothered if I were an Iraqi Arab. These foreign nations are basically stating that they don't give a flying sh*t about Bagdad's position and opinion when it comes to North Iraq.

What I find striking is why the French Minister of Defence is visiting Erbil when it comes to ISIS and Iraq - or the sovereignty of Iraq? I wouldn't have brought up the subject if the timing wasn't so strange... if you're honest, France has no interest in Iraq - the oil there belongs to the Americans, and for no reason and without anything in return, France certainly doesn't fly to Iraq - just for kisses and a warm tea...
There's something going on and it's going well with the aggressive rhetoric at the moment, in the Mediterranean...

In itself one can say, France may and can be interested in the Mediterranean, yes, but in the western - but why the eastern...
France does not gain anything from this - it is less about resources, if you consider that France is an economic fish stock, that it has been in a state of emergency for 3 years, that the yellow vests are being beaten to death, .. this is all about geopolitics, not resources -

I thought the same. We have good relations with KRG in the first place.
