1 How long for Turkiye to develop TF35000 alone?
2 How long for ROK to develop an engine for Kf-21 alone?

Could time be saved through the 2 countries sharing technology? I guess that there must be areas in which one country is ahead and other areas where the other country is ahead.

Two chefs in a kitchen wouldn't shorten the development time. Besides, the power outputs of the engines are not similar.

Current KF-21 is a bit small for it to have an IWB. Maybe a larger version in the future could require TF35K level of thrust and the Koreans could become interested in the Turkish made engine.

But that's way into the future. First we need to see some progress regarding TF35K.

I'm not sure if that question could be answered by forum members. Turkish defense publications are very vocal about the developed capabilities but they're tight-lipped when it comes to the weaknesses. You could make some broad brush statements like we're lacking in serial production but that would be too general to be helpful. I'm guessing the same secrecy applies to Korean projects as well.

Doosan Enerbility capabilities and straegies for aero engine development

Doosan has already made significant achievements in the field of gas turbines for power generation and that it has faithfully equipped related testing facilities. Of course, Doosan fully recognized the difference between aviation gas turbines and power generation gas turbines and said it would use its experience for development.

Currently, the license-produced F-414 for KF-21 is said to have a localization rate of 39%. (based on mass production unit 1)


DAPA is thinking of a plan in which Hanwha and Doosan, and furthermore, Korean companies and university research institutes all participate, rather than a single company monopolizing it. This is because aviation engines require a one-team team for Korea to advance into this difficult and new field. In addition, there is a plan to include foreign companies, which will announce a detailed roadmap at the end of November.

If Korean can't deliver it fast, China will dominate that "5th gen for non US allies / partners" with J35A for sure.

Well? I'm not an expert, I'm not a policymaker, so I don't think I can say exactly. If the J-35 is going to dominate the market, I think it's better to do so. That's... the U.S. is going to take care of it. HA HA.

Doosan Enerbility Succeeds in Performance Test of 380MW Gas Turbine​

Doosan Enerbility has successfully completed performance testing of its independently developed 380MW gas turbine. The company plans to intensify its efforts to penetrate overseas export markets with this gas turbine, which also meets global environmental regulation standards.

Doosan Enerbility announced on June 5 that its 380MW gas turbine model has successfully passed the rated load performance test.

The rated load performance test is a final inspection process where the fully assembled gas turbine is operated at maximum speed and output under conditions identical to those in an actual power plant to verify its performance and stability.

This performance test was conducted over three months from February at the dedicated gas turbine test facility established at the company’s headquarters in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province. Through the performance test, various operational indicators including output, efficiency, vibration, temperature, and exhaust gas were comprehensively examined. In particular, the test also included operational flexibility checks for power supply to data centers and rapid start-up tests to complement the intermittency of renewable energy generation.

The gas turbine that successfully passed this performance test is a 380MW model. This model boasts output and efficiency levels comparable to those of global leading companies. When operated in combined cycle, it can achieve an output of 570MW and an efficiency of 63%. As it also meets global environmental regulation standards, it is evaluated as a product capable of full-scale entry into overseas markets. Combined cycle power generation is a method that produces electricity twice by using high-temperature exhaust gas from the gas turbine to boil water, create steam, and then operate a steam turbine with this steam.

Jeong Yeon-in, vice chairman of Doosan Enerbility, stated, “The successful rated load performance test of this 380MW model has laid the foundation for full-scale competition in the global market. As a favorable atmosphere is rapidly forming in the gas turbine business recently, we will actively strive to strengthen Doosan’s gas turbine position in the global market.”
