The JEMA flies on the Turkish training plane Hürjet

From the Air and Space Force you can see the training plane 'Hürjet' well positioned to replace the Northrop/CASA (today Airbus) F-5M, which operates the Hunting and Attack School in Talavera la Real.

The Chief of Staff of the Air and Space Force, Air General Francisco Braco Carbó, has flown with the head of the Turkish Air Force, General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, in two Hürjets, during his visit to TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries), Turkey's technological center for the design, development, manufacture and integration of aerospace systems. "It is a reliable aircraft, with good acceleration and prepared (*designed) to transition to a fifth-generation aircraft," JEMA said at the end of the flight.

From the Air and Space Force - following its roadmap in search of opportunities to continue with the modernization and replacement of capacities - the Hürjet training aircraft is well positioned to replace the Northrop / CASA F-5M, operated by the Hunting (*fighter) and Attack School in Talavera la Real (Badajoz). "The TAI company has many interesting aspects to establish a possible cooperation with the national industry," said Air General Braco.

The search for a replacement for the F5 represents for the Air and Space Force one more step towards the design of the aerospace force of the second half of the 21st century. A force of profound transformations to adapt to the environment and new operational requirements. Likewise, the complexity of the missions carried out in the aerospace field and the demand of current scenarios require training as realistic as possible, with the consequent demand for resources.

Yup. I think people should understand this as it is.

This is not a sale of "Hürjet" to Spain. This is Hürjet going international and becoming a European trainer. Spaniards are very well connected to rest of the continent re aerospace and will push it heavily. At this time, there are no advanced European trainer aircraft either in active development or on cards. M-346 is simply not getting orders and it's not set for becoming a true advanced trainer for 21st century to train pilots for F-35, Kaan, FCAS, GCAP etc. Other projects are all cancelled. Noone is waiting for the T-7 which is fraught with issues and US procurement will take at least a decade to come to a level where they will only then actively seek export.

If this succeeds, UK and many other NATO countries will buy Hürjet, its name will probably change to a more Euro sounding name in the process, many American subcomponents on it will be replaced by European and Turkish ones.

From Defence Turkey 134th issue: "According to our sources, within the scope of the Spanish Air and Space Force (SASF)'s next-generation AJT Pogram, In lieu of direct procurement of HÜRJET from Türkiye, it is asserted that an alternative option is under consideration, whereby Spanish companies will also have local technological participation. This collaboration could transform HÜRJET into a next-generation European Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) Project, developed through the partnership of TUSAŞ, Spanish Companies. As a result, HÜRJET could attract further demand from other European countries seeking next-generation AJT."

Tony Osborne seems to see the same potential in this as well. Spain had also signed a deal to buy 25 more EF-2000s for its air force today, ensuring program goes on and necessitates the Germans to place another order as well.

For us, this means a steady stream of money flowing into TAI's fixed wing aircraft programs, a greater cooperation with European companies which we already had working relationships in the past through A400M, and we aim to have with the EF-2000 purchase and making sure Hürjet development for TurAF needs are finished as required in time and on budget where we won't see a repeat of Hürkuş and most importantly ensures Hürjet becomes an export success in not 100 units but hundreds of units and is sold to respectable air forces around the world for actual currency and partnerships instead of palm oil.

Every time a news is posted in Hürjet thread, I start with "bismillah" hoping that someone will post a confirmed news about us signing a deal on 90+ engines for Hürjet.

Explore is a nice word, but imo it's delaying our own needs. So either we can't get the engines, or we need to involve others in Hürjet to exert extra pressure on US to ensure we get those engines.

That's how I see it.

I read that the GCAP members are moving towards the M-346 as a trainer tailored for training GCAP pilots. In the same way, could Hurjet be adopted by the FCAS partner countries?

M-346 is a pretty less than average choice for a next generation trainer, it pretty much sucks kinematically and has a tiny engine that won't be able to generate enough power for any next gen features they want to simulate. Leonardo is of course pitching it, as they would like a bigger pie of the trainer market like in the past, but nothing concrete so far. Italy being a GCAP member, of course increases its chances but if it's chosen as THE trainer for GCAP, it'll be because of politics first and they will have a not good enough aircraft on their hands.

I do think Hürjet has a good chance of being chosen by RAF, especially if the Spanish goes forward with their EJ200 installation idea. I think neither project will have a single trainer option, but I do think both GCAP and FCAS countries will be choosing Hürjet in the future.

We are now making the Hürjet even lighter. I have been saying the same thing since the beginning; I think this aircraft is the best aircraft in the Hürjet field.

The project is very close to maturity.

The experiences we have gained are accelerating Kaan's process. This is an issue that cannot be underestimated. Today, some processes in Kaan are accelerating thanks to this aircraft.

I remember reading or hearing somewhere that a flight usually take 30 min and less than 1 hour, so 200 flights isn't much tbh. But better than nothing.

I was hoping for 1000 hours flight.
