That cost given in the above article, doesn’t mention if it includes the actual hourly flight cost of a Typhoon jet fighter.

COFH is not a major factor if you can down drones for $25K instead of $500K. Down 2 drones in a hour and the weapons expended cost is at least $800K lower than using Sidewinder.

Are small fighters practical on carriers without catapults? India abandoned the idea of using their navalised version of Tejas because the load it could carry was too limited for the aircraft to be useful.

That was correct for tesaj however, main thing is they are planning a catapult for the MUGEM and secondly Tesaj has an empty weight off 6600 kilos whilest Hurjet only weighs 5000 while both having the same engine, you could argue Tesaj has more lift area and all but Hurjet is over all a lighter airframe, I think even without the catapult we should be able to carry at least 1-1.5 tons of ordinance which will be good enough until the catapult is done i guess

Also I did see a twitter account named KaraKulak say that Hurjet is already in production for the air force? Do we know anything about that?

Do we talk about the same kind of TVC like F-22 has, with the markaging „stealthy“ design?

I doubt it. Not same kind. But similar may be.
TVC applied to the EJ200 engine by ITP Aero was 3D form. F22 has a 2D form TVC made from all the exotic materials you can think about.

The F119-PW-100 engine for the F-22 Raptor, which includes its unique two-dimensional pitch thrust-vectoring nozzle (TVC), was produced in bulk at a unit cost of approximately $10million in 2006. (16.5million dollars with today’s money)

Most importantly, well over 200 million dollars was spent to produce just one demonstrator engine in 1983. (That is nearly 900million dollar of today’s money) that is not inclusive of development cost of the engine from scratch.

TVC can be a way to give extra agility to a jet fighter. But it is not a necessity. If the plane and especially it’s airframe is designed accordingly, it may not need TVC at all. So KAAN may not need it.
Using the agility capability of a plane means fighting close quarters and consequently losing speed and energy each time TVC is is activated. This would negatively affect the operational radius of the fighter. A plane like KAAN with its stealth and sensor fusion would prefer to fight from a distance.

If you have no other means of downing drones, then OK. At 60-65000dollar per hour (remember with extra tanks and refuelling, a typhoon can fly 9-10 hours) .
That is well over 600thousand dollars, plus cost of munition, spent to shoot down slow moving cheap drones.

If you have your UCAVs like TB3, Anka, Akinci that have over 24 hour endurance or Hurkus to intercept then why fly those expensive jets for drone shooting duties? At worst send a KE to intercept.

To me that is rich man’s solution for a cheap problem.

Fighters are already required to patrol and pilots need to fulfill certain flight hours, part of why army is sustainable ( they ensure funds are not reallocated at times of peace by keeping a certain level of readiness and keeping expenditure relatively high) so instead of more training flight pilot get more duty. With cheap munition the actual cost is fine
